  1. He really isn't. He guilt-tripped the MLB into firing an employee, which is awful. But A-Rod, by all accounts, did at least three things (helping other people get PED's, f***ing up the investigation, attempting to bribe a witness) that are worse if you look at it objectively. Don't get me wrong, i think Braun should have gotten worse punishment, but he had what A-Rod didn't: The foresight to give up after he got caught red-handed and accept a deal. A-Rod's increased penalty is in large part his own doing. He just had to shut his f***ing mouth and negotiate with the MLB instead of trying to bribe a witness and murk up the investigation.
  2. Nava as the regular 1B? LOL.
  3. ^LOL. That's a thought.
  4. Defense and arm are two different tools though. Ells is a plus defender with a poor arm.
  5. Of course it was, and i think he deserved a more severe punishment. That does not discount the severity of what A-Rod did. Not only did he use, he encouraged OTHERS to use, tried to bribe the main witness of the case, refused to cooperate (and tried to actively hinder) the investigation.
  6. I remember reading somewhere that they literally had a "compendium" of evidence against A-Rod. MVP's missing the forest because of the trees here.
  7. Terrible human being, yes, but he did not directly meddle with the investigation. The problem is that Braun's a coward and immediately took a deal, but A-Rod tried to fight it to the point where Selig wanted to choke him with his own two hands. That probably didn't help him.
  8. Well congratulations to a700 on his victory, since i'm clearly not coming back from this deficit. I'll make sure to trade a mediocre SS and below average starting pitcher for the best player in fantasy next year so i can ride him all the way to the championship.
  9. But Braun didn't meddle in the investigation, tried to bribe the main witness, or refuse to cooperate with the investigators.
  10. Yeah that would cheapen the playoffs and wouldn't work, it would probably end up turning people away. Also, logistical nightmare as far as scheduling one-game matchups. I get the sarcasm. I'm just not amused by it. Michael from GTA V has desensitized me to it.
  11. What i'm trying to say is that even though the standings have closed on the first and second WC in both leagues, there was a point where a bunch of these teams were competing only for the second WC and then the Rays started choking like little bitches, and the playing field leveled. Not long ago though, it looked like the only chance for Cleveland, New York, Baltimore, Kansas and Washington in the NL was the second Wild Card. That's exactly what they were trying to do with the second WC. Keep excitement high among fans of teams with a slim chance of making the playoffs without having to rely on a team not gaining a big lead in the WC race or choking at the end of it (like the Rays have conveniently done).
  12. So you're saying that the fact that the fans of about five extra teams still tuning in because their team has a chance at a second WC doesn't help the ratings?
  13. Then how have they been successful? Crawford has pretty much sucked, and Gonzalez has been a mid-tier 1B this season. "Mediocre seasons" is more apropos.
  14. Pedroia is not a good comparison. He is a better, more productive hitter. He plays a less demanding position. He is more durable. And he is more likely to maintain his overall hitting prowess and ability to get on base than Ellsbury. You keep bringing up Pedroia's contract, but their skillsets are not comparable, and Pedroia is a better player.
  15. In that case, the problem is not the money, it;'s the years. Ellsbury's value lies in his legs, so every extra year is potentially very problematic because of natural skill erosion. In a perfect world, the Sox sign Ellsbury for 5/87.5, but someone is going to offer him 6/120 and regret it later.
  16. Gonzales and Crawford have not produced 20 million seasons, and Punto's been deployed in a platoon/part-time role.
  17. But he hasn't, so he's not a good bet at 10 per. As MVP said, the possibility that he doesn't adjust to MLB pitching is real enough where comparing him to the real, quantifiable MLB production brought to the table by Napoli is not a good idea.
  18. How do you know that Abreu at 60/6 is a better value than Napoli? He has taken zero, ZERO mlb AB's. You can't project what he's gonna do at the MLB level, so you don't know what his actual value is.
  19. That's because Ellsbury is both overrated and unable to get through an entire season healthy. If the Sox are going to throw 100 million on a player, it better be an elite and healthy talent. Ellsbury can be number one, but he hasn't proved he can be number two. We get it, marklmw likes Ellsbury, but that's no reason to waste money stupidly on him. He either signs for market value or he can GTFO.
  20. This is posted right after a post where you make an assessment based on something you now claim nobody knows. You sure as hell don't, but don't think twice about making s*** up. Please stop.
  21. So Fred, correct if i'm wrong, but are you saying that Ben Cherington is not a (quote) procrastinating errand boy piece of s*** (/quote)? Are you saying that, after giving the guy some time instead of rushing to judge and s*** all over him, it turns out the guy is actually competent? Are you saying that you and your buddies who came to s*** on the parade of anyone who dared had a positive outlook on the team after last year's disaster were completely and utterly wrong? Is that what you're saying?
  22. Rose-colored glasses, remember? Please spare me this idiocy. I am not an athlete making millions of dollars who ruined his image using PED's. If i was, and i did, i can only wish i had a couple of fans as delusional as you to defend me.
  23. SoxSport is just dumb. Divinity is delusional. Different types of annoying.
  24. This post is probably the only example anyone who doesn't understand what "irony" is needs to get a full grasp on the concept. You don't have the moral standing to speak of rose-colored glasses or homerism. You are the biggest rose-colored glass wearing, cheater defending delusional homer on the face of this earth. Do you know how stupid saying "Petitte is probably a HOF if he didn't play in the 'roid era" is? Petitte was a roider. The awesome thing is that YOUR hipster-style rose colored glasses don't allow you to see him for what he really is. A cheater and a phony. "But he only used once"!!!! Right, and i'm a T-Rex you mumbling fool. Just stop.
  25. Divinity, i am not even kidding about this, i am completely serious. Most of your posts give me a headache.
