  1. Why "wow". They've played at most three games. This makes no sense.
  2. Koji's awesome, Papelbon is terrible. Water is wet, the sky's above.....
  3. I understand why the mods here are so touchy about politics. Baseball please.
  4. I want to trade. Everyone is available.
  5. Jacko has a mean streak sometimes that makes me think he may have a confederate flag tattooed to his forehead, however, it's usually done in a joking manner (stupid but not malicious imo) so i think we don't need to turn the faux pas into anything bigger RJ.
  6. Fred, you don't know what the issue is with the negotiations. How do you know they're acting like "front office *******s". Seriously, is it too much to ask for you to show some restraint, and cool it with the assumptions and hyperbole? (This is not sarcasm, i am literally asking)
  7. You don't know what they're expecting or what the hold-up is.
  8. That's a whole other issue. I'm specifically refuting BSN's point that they could let Lester go if Buch or Doubront took a step forward. That would not be smart considering their respective histories.
  9. Letting Lester go because Buch and/or Doubront have one good season after years of mediocrity/ injuries is like a Diabetic going to Dunkin' Donuts, eating a dozen donuts, and then complaining when he ends up in the hospital. He should've known he was going to end up on the wrong side of a "f*** ME" sandwich, and he only has himself to blame.
  10. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/alt/452657.jpg Jon "World Series Champion" Lester Vs http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/501957.jpg Chris "Not World Series Champion" Tillman And just in case anyone forgot, the Red Sox are the defending WS champions. WIN!
  11. Masterson already broke out. Kluber and Salazar breaking out could make them a true postseason contender, if they make it there.
  12. Stranger things have happened.....like the 2013 Red Sox.
  13. It wasn't the statistical issue. It was the fact that he was overmatched, and the scouts noticed, plus the fact that Grady didn't look overmatched, and not giving him a spot meant losing him. They couldn't give less of a s*** about spring stats, but they have a scouting team looking at guys and identifying weaknesses from the get go. As a guy who's said numerous times he worked as a scout, i'm surprised you don't see it from this point of view. Basing anything on a sample size as small as ST is, well, pretty stupid.
  14. Apparently the idea "Spring Training stats mean NOTHING" is lost on some.
  15. Jon Lester is a free agent? News to me.
  16. You've got it all wrong. A) WAR values are not linear and they change according to various factors which would be too tiresome to explain here. They are detailed in the primer located at the FG website. B ) Dave Cameron ( or anyone who knows how the $ value or WAR works for that matter) has never stated that there is or should be a direct correlation between FG's $ value and players' salaries. The tool is used as a guide for assessing relative market value, identifying industry (in this case constant inflation sadly) trends and for comparing value between players.
  17. Common sense right here. And if ST stats are so important, why is Francisco Cordero on his way home right now....
  18. You do know some of the more SABR inclined FO's like to use WAR as a benchmark to appreciate current and future value when assigning FA contracts? Also, if Dave Cameron is an idiot, then the bar for intelligence has been set way too high for a lot of us to reach.
  19. It isn't. There were at least 50 OF last year (about a third of them regulars) who produced a lower WAR last year than Carp did as a part-time player.
  20. The .227 ISO and near 10.0 BB% is where the value lies. BABIP fluctuates, but power and on-base ability are repeatable (and valuable) skills.
  21. Soooo......no 400 mill?
  22. Cashner has been average (3.91 away ERA to 2.54 at home) outside of Petco, and Donaldson was projected to be an average (at most) regular who exploded last year in what can be attributed to a conflagration of statistical flukes and is very likely to regress massively this season. Terrible examples.
