  1. What exactly do you disagree with? What i said in the post was that, contrary to what scouts initially thought about Coyle, he has the makings of an MLB regular, not because of his tools, but because of his production and approach. I then explained the idea that tool-based scouting has taken renewed significance the last couple of years because of the current need to focus on upside. I am literally agreeing with everything you posted. So what do you disagree with again?
  2. Did you even bother to read the other post i made?
  3. His postseason numbers are not it, since it's a SSS and he experienced success initially in his playoff career. It's more along the lines of not giving a pitcher with HR issues and that depends on defensive efficiency more than ever with a declining K rate big money for his 34-37 seasons.
  4. That's a cop-out Jacko. Make your prediction with some conviction. Do they or don't they make the playoffs?
  5. No no no, you've gotta it all wrong. We're the Red Sox. We're a large market team, we gotta win goddamn now and f*** the future.....but i reserve the right to whine like a little bitch if the future happens to suck because the team spent stupidly to win RIGHT GODDAMN NOW.
  6. The Yankees could have really used Shields. Perhaps more than the Sox given their health question marks. If they didn't sign him at that price, you know there's something there we don't see.
  7. You sure about that? Because i know a lot of Red Sox fans that certainly act like Yankees fans. Not all of them here, mind you.
  8. This is a very hilarious cop-out mr. "Carl Crawford is the savior of the franchise" who less than a year later turned into "The FO is a bunch of bumbling fools for signing Crawford". You are the number one example of the hypocrisy Kimmi was talking about here.
  9. Do you blame him? More money, more power, and the ability to run a large-market outfit as he sees fit. The fact that if they go all the way he can get over the "you inherited your WS-winning roster" monkey off his back is just gravy.
  10. Did Theo Epstein run over your dog or something? Enough with the penis envy, goddamn.
  11. But he pitched in Arizona, which sucks. W-L are for, for the millionth time, a terrible indication of a pitcher's talent level. If this team hits, Miley or anyone else can win 15+ unless they get constantly destroyed by the other team. Pitcher wins are mostly a reflection of the team he plays for. Ask King Felix, or on the other end of the spectrum, Tim Wakefield.
  12. I will ask this though: How do you know that never re-signing Lester wasn't their intent fred? Pitching speculation as fact is fun fred, but none of us actually knows what happened there.
  13. Except for the guys that don't, like Cliff Lee, or Pedroia, or horseface Teixeira, who turned down two bigger deals to play with the Yanks.
  14. The longball is a legitimate problem. But a GB pitcher playing behind a s***** D in a park that accentuates his weaknesses is a recipe for disaster. I noticed you conveniently leave out his FIP and xFIP, which are much higher on his body of work. There's plenty of room for improvement moving to a better park (yes, Fenway is a better park than Chase in this particular case) with better D, and in a timeframe where offense in the AL just ain't what it used to be.
  15. Wade Miley sits 91-93, which is above-average velocity for lefty, and his best secondary pitch, which is a changeup, grades as plus from both a scouting and analytical perspective. Read a scouting report for once.
  16. Clay Buchholz, who got caught stealing some laptops when he was in HS i believe.
  17. No there isn't fred. You know better. Farrell sucks, so so is a pussy, so so sucks, etc etc
  18. You're always dependent on a bunch of things going right. It's like 2013 never happened. That team may have had more ifs than this one an d it went all the way. The glass isn't always half-empty.
  19. You can also expect them to spend like drunken sailors, then complain when it stops them from making future acquisitions.
  20. The Sox will hit. If their pitching corps is league average overall, they can make the playoffs. There's really not much debating that.
  21. Note: In MLB's specific case, it mostly caters to popular teams, which is why you tend to find some of the big-fanbase teams having good preseason odds although they may have relatively weak rosters. This is why i never, ever put stock into preseason betting line projections.
  22. I'm going to profess my bro-love for my good buddy MVP here by defending him in the same manner that a700 does for his good buddy iortiz. iortiz, you don't know what you're talking about. a700 is partially correct though. First off: On another note: Betting lines are created with a certain amount of projections in mind, but they're usually just made to hedge funds. This is being said by people who actually know what they're talking about. iortiz, do some research before you run your mouth. http://www.pregame.com/EN/main/sports-betting-basics/gambling-rules-advice/12878.html
  23. They scored 773 runs. The 2013 Red Sox scored more. Barring good health, i'm pretty sure we do.
