  1. If the fast guys can get on base, otherwise it's an exercise in futility, with weird ass exceptions like Alcides Escobar noted.
  2. You know that, using logic (stay with me here), JBJ's platoon issues are going to normalize. If he's going to struggle badly, he will do so against LHP.
  3. As Spud say, he needs to get a chance before we conclude he's a bust. If he comes out and lights it up, I bet you'll be the first one on his bandwagon.
  4. As has been said, Young really protects against offensive problems form JBJ, but Castillo is major question mark.
  5. As usual, I'm in.
  6. Also, jbj has below average speed? Seriously, please stop making s*** up.
  7. Except Tony La Russa did.
  8. As I explained before, no. If you have two .350+ OBP guys in the one and two spots, the three hole hitter will end with a bases empty, no out situation in the first inning less than 50% of the time. Ask the 2006 Cardinals, since that's what what with David Eckstein and pre-suck Chris Duncan at the top of their order.
  9. Mostly hit 3rd, but they batted him cleanup on occasion. A lot of the time it was because they had that three-headed animal of him, Edmonds and Rolen, and hit them R,L,R in that order. Then again, they usually had good contact/OBP guys in the one and two hole.
  10. That usually doesn't happen, but if it does, you hit him 4th imo. Remember when we had Manny/Ortiz? Manny hit cleanup, and he was really a better overall hitter than Ortiz. No platoon issues, better ability to take the ball the other way with authority.
  11. Those two? Those two will be fine. Fatty and the linebacker are the real question marks.
  12. 2-3 will be fine with E-Rod and Porcello. But they lack depth because they didn't get another starter, and lack of SP depth has killed them in recent seasons.
  13. You are looking at the the issue from a different perspective. What's being said is that you put your best hitter (and by best, it's the guy with the highest OBP) in the #1 spot, because there's an extremely strong correlation between getting a guy on base leading off an inning and scoring runs. What Kimmi in particular is debating is the value of having that hitter batting 3rd, when it's a lot harder to score a run if said hitter gets on with 2 outs and no one on. Although I don't completely adhere to her ideas, I see what she's saying. In my opinion, you should put two high-OBP contact guys one and two (Betts and Xander) followed by your best all-around hitter (OBP + SLG + speed, or Pedroia) followed by your biggest masher (Ortiz) and guys with the ability to produce runs (Hanley) then figure out the rest of the lineup by splits/overall hitting ability. Then again, that's just how I see it.
  14. You have three righties in a row. Some would see that as unthinkable, but none of those guys have real platoon issues.
  15. That's because it was a stupid baseline. I've always thought they simply did not want to re-sign Lester. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  16. I did not find it amusing, as it is an insult to turds everywhere.
  17. The Betts/XB/Pedroia top of the lineup sounds like a winner to me, using the statistically researched model.
  18. The Red Sox were 4th in MLB in runs scored last year with Panda sucking, Napoli hitting like a pitcher, and Hanley being down a significant amount of time. They were also middle of the pack (15th) in homers, but 7th in TB, 5th in OBP, and 7th in SLG% meaning that they were an excellent offensive unit in spite of all of the injury problems and underperformance from Napoli/Panda. Do you ever stop making s*** up jung? Furthermore, do you even follow baseball bro?
  19. Then again, if you have true high OBP guys in the 1st and 2nd slot, that increases the #3 hitter's importance to lineup construction. There are always some outside factors.
  20. Funny how he conveniently forgets losing BOTH catchers and Napoli hitting like a pitcher.
  21. Pablo was decent with a chance of sucking. The chance was what we got.
  22. But Price is actually good.
  23. Homer Bailey and Mike Leake are pretty good comparables to Porcello over their respective careers, and look at how much money they got. It's the fruit the market's bearing.
  24. I'll bet dollarss to doughnuts several of the people critizising the projections don't actually know how the model works. If they don't (and they don't), why bother with them, Kimmi? Also jung, that's a bs excuse for "Why people leave the forum". Most people left when a bunch of your friends from another site came over and turned this site into an unreadable pile of negativity and whining.
  25. That's not how it works. You don't sum up WAR and s*** out a projected standing. And why is s***ing on projections such a big deal? It's just a tool that has its limitations.
