  1. It's not emotion, it's production. You can't give away games because Pablo can't handle the position defensively. He's being given the chance to prove that he can in ST, and he's failing miserable. The swing seems to be there, but the consensus is that he's looking terrible defensively. I think you're the one looking at all of this with an emotional viewpoint. Most of us just want the guy who can catch and hit the ball playing.
  2. How can you be this bad at logic? Per his post, Papelbon was definitely an overpay, because he didn't provide value relative to his contract, as it always happens with closers setting the market with their deals. Papelblows. Deal with it.
  3. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/168661356/red-sox-mookie-betts-answers-twitter-questions A question from SoxFanForSyth to Mookie posted in MLB.com. I lol'd.
  4. Sandoval really needs to improve his D though. He's been a stone statue. The bat, as I said before, has woken up though.
  5. Price, Buchholz (while he's healthy), E-Rod will be fine. How much mileage they can get out of Porcello's comeback and Buch's apparent health is the key here.
  6. Semantics. Eat that crow Pete!
  7. Excellent point, at least on timeline. Shaw (and Travis) have a way more refined approach at the plate though.
  8. Lackey pitched 137 IP of 3.60 ERA ball in 2014 for the Sox. But that's not what I meant anyway, smartass.
  9. Wasn't he the number 2 in 2013? (No one expected Lackey to do what he did, and when healthy, he wa lights out). Maybe E-Rod is the next 2013 Lackey.
  10. I don't quite think you understand what the FO's actual problem with Pablo is. It's not personal. He showed up very overweight and he's a statue at 3rd (the bat is waking up hough). The better player needs to play. It hasn't been decided yet, but if it's Shaw in both sides of the ball, then he should be starting. It's common sense.
  11. Because he's had bursts of brilliance sandwiched with bouts of mediocrity in STL. He has top-notch stuff, but physical and sequencing issues make him a wildcard. He has the stuff to succeed, but you can never have enough pitching in case he doesn't or get injured, just like Buch.
  12. It is, but how long until Buch and Kelly need time off?
  13. Who would have thought he'd be pitching like he is in ST? It's hindsight to say "well he's pitching awesome now, so grabbing an arm would have been a bad idea and created a roster crunch". Even if he pitches well though, he and Buch are both made of glass, so further MLB rotation depth for this team was not a luxury, it was a need.
  14. Hindsight is 20/20.
  15. How can you "have no doubts" Detroit would have won with Papelbon? That's made up dribble. Stop it with the hyperbole
  16. The fact that Jacko agrees with you tells you all you need to know about your projection NB.
  17. I'd forgotten all about it then saw the email.
  18. But if we try to root our opinion in reality, the Sox aren't going to flush that contract down the toilet without at least trying to get something out of Panda.
  19. It makes more sense to see how Pablo does in at least a limited time during the regular season. Shaw is unproven, Holt is needed elsewhere, Marrero can't hit, neither can Rutledge, Craig flat out sucks and has never played third base, Hernandez is not very good, at least in my opinion. They need to see what they actually have with Pablo. I'm with mvp on this one.
  20. That's why they got Kimbrel, who is highly priced, but a proven performer in the middle of his prime. If you're going to pay, pay for prime-year production.
  21. I would have sent Kelly down to be honest. Let him earn his way to a rotation spot.
  22. Then you're missing two starters instead of one, and a 1B AND a 3B. Assuming Porcello and Hanley don't flat out suck, no they're not. And who knows with Panda. He looks cooked on D, but the bat is waking up.
  23. But it's an educated guess to assume they could have added another mid-range contract to sign a guy like Kazmir, Gallardo or Fister (semi dumpster-dive) for a short term to help cover some innings at a palatable price. I don't really like any of those guys, but they all came relatively cheap, and could have protected against injury/ineffectiveness for 1-2 years.
