  1. I thought Gardner was close to coming back, but he's set to have arthroscopic surgery on his elbow next week. He's likely done for the year after playing in only 9 games.
  2. .750 is unbelievable baseball. Last year, between a 2-10 start and 8-21 finish (10-31) we went 80-41, or about .660. I can't imagine this team outperforming last years, especially with struggling SP. .625-.650 is possible, and would net us a WC. I have no hopes of catching the Yankees, they are playing lights out, but a WC spot should come easy if our starters can pitch to their career averages the rest of the way.
  3. When was the last time we scored first in a game?
  4. Aviles is actually a really good defender, I just think Ciriaco is a lot better.
  5. Griffey missed 22 in 96, ARod missed 16 in 96, 21 in 97, and 33 in 99. We can go back and forth on these 2 all day Ortiz/Manny get the win by a mile in OPS+, but Griffey/ARod make up for it in defense. Compare their oWAR+dWAR at baseball-reference.com. Ortiz/Manny totaled 28.0 WAR over their 4 years while Griffey/ARod had 61.3 Checkmate.
  6. That "filler" would most likely be a couple of top 100 prospects. The Marlins hold JJ in very high regard.
  7. 96-99 Griffey and ARod... 352 HR, 1009 RBI, 273 2B. Very, very close numbers! Ortiz and Manny probably get the nod due to the WS win
  8. CIRIACO AT DH AND AVILES AT SS!?!? That right there is just utterly wrong.
  9. Hanley fits our lineup better. I love Crawford, and I'm probably one of the few who welcomed him to Boston with open arms. However, I do know we need a #1 SP. If that trade happens, I want it to be completely independent of, and not affect, our ability to go out and get an ace.
  10. Make the deal if you really want to, just remember that we still need a front of the rotation SP. Tweak the offense however you want, as long as you get an anchor later. Imagine that 1-5 though.. Ellsbury L Pedroia R Gonzo L Hanley R Ortiz L Hanley wouldn't get as many SB, but 1-4 would always have something to hit.
  11. I know you old guys don't like these newfangled stats :harhar:, but just look at the all time leaders in single season ERA+. While great, Bob Gibson's 1968 pales in comparison to Pedro's 2000. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/earned_run_avg_plus_season.shtml
  12. Griffey and ARod, but they were only together what, 3-4 years? And ARod wasn't even close to his prime yet. Imagine if those 2 could've gotten locked up long term.
  13. Pedro's 2000 was the most dominant season in baseball history, by a hitter or pitcher, IMO. And his 2000 was a lot better than his absolutely amazing 1999, which just puts it into perspective.
  14. The scenario is actually that it is Game 7 of the World Series and you're building your team for it from scratch. We're not building a team for years to come, but only for that 1 game. It's gotta be 99-00 Pedro.
  15. We could see Ciriaco back at 2B with Pedroia DH'ing. It'd give him more time to get to 100% (if he even needs it) while keeping a top notch defender out there.
  16. Even though I'd rather keep Crawford, I think Hanley would be a better fit here. We all go on about how we're too LHH heavy and have no RH power, and Hanley could fix that. He could hit 90-100 XBH at Fenway if he ever gets back to normal.
  17. Yet another 1st inning run
  18. Pedro. I'd trust him to strike out Ruth, Maris, Mantle, and DiMaggio in order in the 1st. (yes 4 k's, Salty can't catch worth a damn)
  19. Wow, he took 2nd on a fly ball to center. That seems pretty rare
  20. Ortiz was right last night though.
