    There's no way any team gives him a 7-8 year deal. But I wouldn't be completely opposed to offering him 5/125. This would work for multiple reasons. Cherington would make his first big splash, gaining some needed fanfare. It would be against the Yankees. It would be a major blow to a Yankees organization already needing help in the rotation. It would shore up our biggest problem, an innings eater at the top of the rotation. I don't see CC being the next Nolan Ryan, but I do see him being very effective until at least 36-37.

    There's plenty out there. This year alone, 12 pitchers tossed more than 225, with another half-dozen or so within 5. We need to trade some of this offense for an ace.

    Bedard as the #5 sounds reasonable. I just stand by my thinking that we NEED a #1 that can pitch 225 quality innings.

    I'd like to see a blockbuster trade go down. We absolutely need a SP with a proven track record who will step up and anchor the rotation. Someone in the mold of CC, Felix, and Verlander that produces QS after QS and just eats innings. We have plenty of offense and I could see trying to trade a bat and and some of the blocked minor leaguers. However, I have no idea who is available out there.

    The Sox rotation is looking like a mess heading into 2012 so far. Lester Beckett Buchholz Who are realistic options for the 4 and 5 spot? I could see us making a run at Oswalt, and then the 5 is a mystery.. Possibly Kazmir? There was interest in Harden at the end of the year, maybe try to sign him now?

    Fangraphs also has him listed as the 26th best SP in 2010, ahead of Clay Buchholz, Tim Hudson, David Price, Mat Latos, Chris Carpenter, Trevor Cahill, Cole Hamels, and Matt Cain. Do you honestly agree with that?

    From Wikipedia: Wins Above Replacement, commonly known as WAR, is a non-standardized sabermetric baseball statistic that is used to show how many more wins a player would give a team as opposed to a "replacement level", or minor league/bench player at that position. Basically, it tells the value of the player, higher numbers = better. Anything above 8.0 is MVP level, I think 5-8 is all-star, 2-5 starter, 0-2 benchplayer, and sub-0 is John Lackey / AJ Burnett 2011.

    I think he will have a very strong 2012 and .315 to .320 isn't out of the question. I doubt he'll ever hit more than 20 HR either, but 15-18 would be nice. He really needs to pick up on his 2B, 3B, and SB numbers.

    Hello, I'm a new member here and decided to come in and introduce myself. My name is Chuck, I was born and raised in SE Mass, moved to Newport, RI, then joined the military and went to South Carolina, Virginia, Korea, Texas, Kuwait, Iraq, New York, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and am now living in Mesa, AZ for work. I've been a Red Sox fan since around 1990/91 when my grandfather brought me to my first Paw Sox game in Pawtucket. I think my first Sox memory is watching Aaron Sele as a rookie pitch lights out baseball down the stretch, thinking he was going to team up with Clemens and pitch us back to the WS.

    I don't know how you could. Damn near every other teams #5 starter outperformed him last year. The way he was pitching, he MAY have made the AAA club as the 5th starter.

    That's why I edited to include the idea of possibly moving Crawford to RF permanently. LF isn't easy at Fenway, but it's smaller than RF. With 2 speedy OF's, they could both shy to LF to cover the ground Soriano can't reach.

    Hey all, long time reader, first time poster. I have an idea. We're short a RF and possibly a DH for 2012. Could we trade Lackey for Soriano straight up? Soriano still provides plenty of pop in the bat and could split time between the RF and DH positions. This would give Kalish or Reddick a chance to grow and develop more by still getting 300 AB's in the majors while not getting burned out. The DH position would be freed up for 70-80 games to give Gonzo, Pedroia, and Youk time to rest. Also, with Crawford being wall-shy out there in Fenway, what do you think of playing Ellsbury in LF and Crawford in CF for home games and vice-versa for away games? Or we could even just move Crawford to spacious RF. If Manny could play LF in Fenway, anyone can.
