  1. The first contract would've been 2001-2010, when he posted a combined 68.9 WAR, or about 7 per season. He opted out of the first 10 year deal after the 2007 season. The 2nd contract was the killer one. Mauer has 6 years left at 23M per. Ouch.
  2. The Yankees were smart to trade for him in 2004. 10/252M seemed expensive at the time, but if there were no opt out clause, it would've actually ended up being a good contract for the entire life of it. They shot themselves in the foot when they agreed to 10 additional years, at an even higher salary when he was 32. Nobody else would've come close to that, and they could've gotten him signed a LOT cheaper or for less years.
  3. Good ol' Rally Killer Kalish.
  4. That lineup is completely devoid of a tradition 3, 4, or even 5 hitter.
  5. Omg. Pedroia, Iggy, AND Pedro starting together? Toss in Loney's plus glove and that's a sick infield.
  6. Pittsburgh just cut Bedard and are unsure as to who will replace him. I could see Oswalt or Dice-K ending up there.
  7. Delmon Young is one of the worst defensive players in baseball. Pass on him. Ciriaco will be interesting, because I doubt he can keep it up offensively, especially with that .420+ BABIP he's currently sporting. His defense makes it worth it though, so even if he only hits .260-.280 next year, he might be worth it. He doesn't walk though, so that goes against what I think the front office is trying to get back to. I'd pass on Overbay too, and bring back Loney on a short deal. His defense is good, and his offense isn't that far behind Overbay's.
  8. If we can get him for 2M per, then sure.
  9. There's the Dice-K we all know and love. Leadoff walk, 1st to 3rd on the SB and error.
  10. Dice-K is going today. Should be interesting
  11. Nobody could have imagined it would be this big. Financially, I believe this is the biggest deal in North American sports history. There have never been 2-$100M players in 1 trade in the MLB. I know the NBA does those funky sign-and-trades, but I don't think there's ever been one of this magnitude. We may never see a trade like this again.
  12. Kevin Millar. Seriously though, I think Bobby V or Brad Mills will be managing this team next year, in that order of likeliness. I really just don't see Bobby V leaving. He's a good manager, and I think he'd do well with younger kids (Lavarnway, WMB, Iggy, Ciriaco, Kalish, etc). If he can get Pedroia on his side, this could very well be a playoff team. Gonzo has had a subpar year, CC played 31 games, and Beckett was out of it all year. This trade only improves us. We'll have money and prospects galore to go get those elite arms that we need so badly. Our offense will be good, not 2011-12 good, but still above average.
  13. Loney scratched, De La Rosa optioned, hmmm.. This might actually happen.
  14. Bruce Chen perfect game!
  15. This was the thread I meant to post this in, my drunken brain couldn't navigate correctly the other day. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d68/elon_/ts.jpg
  16. Get ready for a 3-1 Royals win.
  17. I've been reading this thread: http://www.talksox.com/forum/game-thread-forum/1241-october-20th-new-york-alcs-game-7-a-8.html I wasn't here then (obviously), but I remember being attached to the TV/Radio that entire series. Everyone was so excited, winning the ALCS Game 7 was better than the WS IMO. I barely even watched the WS, it just felt that nothing could compare to what we had just witnessed. Can we ever be as excited about this team as we were then?
  18. This is also a great idea. I bet teams would police themselves a lot better if everyone had to pay for the stupidity of one.
  19. I'm riding the Reds train all the way home if they call up Hamilton. Oh! And they have Chapman! That's a fun team.
  20. Only 5 ER for Aceves, I think his ERA may have gone down a bit.
  21. Managements misuse of Aceves this year has led the fan base to despise him. Aceves should've been in the rotation with Bard closing to start the year. Who knows if that would've changed anything, but it would've been the right thing to do.
  22. I didn't even get a chance to finish my post about hating the idea of Aceves going back out before the HR. That was pathetic pitching and pathetic managing.
