  1. If he doesn't believe that his current team is committed to winning in the short term then of course there is a reason for him not to be happy..
  2. Pedro Martinez said yesterday that the players are unhappy with the lack of direction. He specifically implied that Bogaerts and Devers have issues with this. The team meeting was obviously Blooms attempt to convince the players that he had a plan. However what remains unclear is how long a period is that plan. Merloni who spoke directly to Bloom and who has excellent sources within the team and front office said it was not clear to him that Bloom expected a contending team before 2025. The question is will that satisfy Bogey and Devers. Hence Pedro's reference that they have a headache with both
  3. The elephant in the room.is Henry. For whatever reason Henry has decided to put all his efforts in getting an NBA franchise. That is the reason Bloom is on this economy kick because Henry wants him too. I suspect once Henry either gets his next jewel or gets rebuffed he will open up the checkbook.. One curious note my family in Boston former season ticket holders say Henry is not marketing the team but rather Fenway Park. They are turning the park into a year round attraction.
  4. I thought Blooms team meeting was a good start But the way the team played, flat and listless, afterwards causes me to wonder whether if he was too late in calling such a meeting. This clubs needs to rebound quickly. For me, question is not whether the team will make the playoffs but rather have they given up totally and has Bloom lost Bogaerts and Devers.
  5. In the spirit of bonhomme I admit that I am guilty too.
  6. Sounds like the priorities most senior executives earning 7 figure salaries have. That is why they get paid the big bucks.
  7. He wss at every game I attended. Sat two rows behind at one game. Great seats!
  8. I do not know nor care if anyone on this forum.has expressed that view in the past. This forum represents an infinitesimal percentage of Red Sox fans and analysts. It is a point of view that is being expressed by some hosts and callers on sports radio. Quite frankly I have not formed my opinion on the matter since I have not heard or read enough to substantiate that point of view. I posted it only because it is a point of view that has some currency in certain quarters and I.think it is worthy of discussion.
  9. I said the same...There is however another school of thought that says Cora did not have the discretion that he has had in the past regarding the lineup. The analytics boys told him who to play.
  10. Good first step
  11. The overwhelming stream of reporting has indicated that before the trade deadline team morale was very low. We all saw that low morale demonstrated by the sloppy play on the field. Henry Bloom and Co have been repeatedly been criticized by clumsy handling of these personnel issues. Allegedly Vaz was singled out because he was the front offices most vociferous critic for failure to make the needed improvements over the off season. This is a case of once again of a failure to read the room. Bloom needs to get a handle on this or he is in a real mess in the coming months.
  12. I think.that is exactly what Pedro is saying. Bloom has to repair his relations with both if he sincerely wants them to remain. Merloni says it is not clear if Bloom (Henry) is willing to pay Bogaerts or Devers to remain long term.
  13. No little leaguers wanted to play for Bloom is the way I heard it.
  14. Notin, I will be direct with you. You have been doing exactly the same thing to posters with whom you disagree for years. Sometimes you do it just to be snarky. Sometimes you are clever sometimes you are not. But to call out others for behavior you have exhibited ever since I can remember is exactly why I wrote "It was pot calling the kettle black." I was referring to you my snarky friend. Oh by the way I am not saying you should stop. It is too hot and humid to play golf today and your snark is a good way to stay amused and pass an otherwise boring day
  15. Pedro Martinez just said on WEEI that he does not get what Chain is doing after the Vazquez trade. He said he (Bloom) has a headache with Bogaerts he is got a headache with Devers indicating both are not happy at the clubs direction. In response to Pedro, Lou Merloni said he has spoken to Bloom but Bloom has not been able to clearly articulate his long term stratergy. It is not clear to Merloni if Bloom is planning to be a contender in 23,24 or 25. Everyone is confused by the inconsistent signals coming out Bloom.
  16. Vaz wss very popular in the clubhouse. Listening to Boston sports radio, this trade has not been well received. Sports radio cites reports out of the clubhouse that suggest the players morale is worse now than before the deal. There is concern that Devers .may not wish to stay in Boston regardless of how much money the Sox offer. Now many posters here will poo poo this But the sentiment in Boston is that the players do not have confidence in Bloom. One hopes that beating up on a horrible KC team will lift everyone in the clubhouse's mood.
  17. The word was the Sox were asking two top tier prospects for JDM.
  18. I can not generally disagree with anything you wrote except to as it relates to Henry's non existent interpersonal skills. Otherwise what you wrote is not in any way at variance with what I wrote. While it may be technically true that Henry did not fire Franconia the way the Red Sox handled his leaving left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Franconia still resents the way it went down. The fact is after DDs departure Gammons , Tom Verducci, John Heyman et al were all over the MLB network and elsewhere talking about the fact that the way Henry let DD go and the fact that Boston has gone through so many successful GMs and managers in such a short time meant that there was a great deal of reluctance in the industry to work for Henry. Even Henry's employee Dan Shaughnessey was critical of the way DDs departure was handled calling it an embarrassment for the club.
  19. Pot calling kettle black.
  20. He knew what he was getting into. If you recall there was a lot of chatter among baseballwriters that several qualified candidates were reluctant to consider coming to Boston because of the way Henry handled DDs departure and the fact that Boston had run through so many other GMs and otherwise successful managers in such a relatively short period.
  21. There is no almost about it. They do take criticism of Bloom as personal.
  22. One of Lou Merloni's major criticisms of Bloom is he lacked a sense of urgency. Reportedly Bloom wanted to get Pham in February but did not make the move at that time.
  23. For the record I am a Bloom agnostic. I am neither for nor against him. That being said the prevailing opinion here is very pro Bloom. That is neither a good nor bad thing but just the way it is. Also there those who take great umbrage at those critical of Bloom's moves which I think most fair minded folks would say are inconsistent at best.
  24. Agreed. This site is the only one that is unabashed pro Bloom.
  25. Pure sophistry
