  1. This is not the front office that wins bidding wars. This is the one who very publicly comes in 2nd or 3rd and say to fans at least we tried! Red Sox are a total joke ever since they lost their balls and sold off Mookie Betts for an awful return. The curse of Babe Ruth has been replaced by the curse of Mookie Betts.
  2. The Red Sox ownership are shrewd. They know how to appeal to the diehard fans without actually opening their wallets. They can say, see we offered 700 million on Soto, we just got outbid. Same with Fried, same with every premium free agent this year. Instead they go dumpster diving for deals again and say, see, we're making changes! Buy your season tickets now, like good little sheep.
  3. I see no reason why the Red Sox would win a bidding war against LA Dodgers, Yankees, or Blue Jays for Teoscar. From the sounds of it he's looking for around 70-75m/3 years deal.
  4. Aroldis Chapman isn't quality enough for you? You've got to drop your expectations lower, it's either the bargain bin way or the highway!
  5. The Red Sox specialize in the broken down reclamation projects now. It's their idea of getting a bargain! Look, this guy was good 3-4 years ago SO if he regains that form the 21 million we pay him now will look like a bargain compared to the 28-30m we would have to pay a perfectly healthy pitcher who will actually throw for us most nights. Why would you pay 100% market price for a guy who will be available 85-95% of the time when you can pay just 75% of the price for a guy who could be available 0-50% of the time? This is the Red Sox bargain hunting mindset.
  6. Walker Buehler was a stud... 3 years ago.. Coming off his worst season. But if healthy maybe he'll come good. If he does well with the Red Sox the plan should be to extend him. We'll take a wait and see and hope he is ready to contribute THIS season since it's only a 1 year deal.
  7. The Red Sox won't trade for Castillo even if they were willing to give up good prospects. The man averages 24m dollars per year on remaining 4 years of his deal and the Sox showed they are too cheap to offer any free agent near that range of salary. And I know we made a fake run at Soto, but JWH wasn't really serious or he would have said, here's 750m, lets see if the Mets go 800m. It was never going to happen and they knew it.
  8. Unless Crochet has an out of the blue Cy Young worthy season with 20+ wins, I don't see us sniffing the playoffs yet again. Outside of him we got more retreads and bargain bin buys who are rehabbing injuries from free agency. This is the Red Sox version of full throttle - buy broken down pitchers and players to cut price deals and hope one of them can stay off the DL long enough to contribute on the field. It's a proven recipe for failure. Get ready to miss the postseason for a 4th year in a row.
  9. Cody Bellinger is a much better talent than Poteet. Is 26m per year an overpay for a 28 year old .810 OPS first baseman? maybe but it's easily something the Yankees can swing because their owners aren't afraid to spend money to improve the team.
  10. Red Sox signed Giolito for 38m/2 years and that was their “big signing” last offseason. Of course he didn’t pitch a single inning for us last year. His deal might as well have read 38m for 1 year of play. This is how the Sox burn 🔥 good money in their dumpster diving for injured players. It’s insane to me that they repeat this behavior with Sandoval who likely will miss most of 2025 recovering from TJ surgery.
  11. It's not a mirror though. Yankees signed Max Fried for $218 million dollars. Fried is a stud top of the rotation pitcher. Red Sox signed Aroldis Chapman for 10.75m 1 year deal. Chapman is a 36 yo relief pitcher. Yankees are coming off being in the World Series. Red Sox are coming off missing the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row. The Yankees didn't give up a single top 100 prospect to acquire Devin Williams. The Red Sox gave up the 25th overall prospect in MLB in Teel. The needs of a stacked World Series team are different than one who needs a serious talent boost to even hope to get into the postseason. Either way the Red Sox moves so far have been underwhelming and not without risk. Crochet could become a top 3 pitcher, but can he hold up to a top of rotation workload? He's never pitched more than 150 IP in a season yet. The rest of their moves have been fliers on low cost low risk acquisitions like Chapman or injured reclamation projects like Sandoval. Outside of the Crochet trade the Red Sox have been dumpster diving, flea market shopping if we're being realistic.
  12. Ok I do have to push back here. A trade for a JP pitcher does not count as a posting signing. And that is the context of this thread, will Red Sox go after prominent postings from JP such as Sasaki. Naoyuki Uwasawa traded to Red Sox from Rays for cash Associated Press Mar 28, 2024, 01:32 PM ET ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Reliever Naoyuki Uwasawa was traded to the Boston Red Sox from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash. Boston selected the contract of Uwasawa to the 40-man roster before Thursday's opener at Tampa Bay, then optioned him to Triple-A Worcester.
  13. Ok. You found a japanese pitcher after Uehara. But it was also only a 3m dollar deal. I'm talking about big money in their prime japanese pitchers. Even Uehara didn't break the bank at 2 years 18 million for the initial deal. I don't see a chance of us making a serious offer for Sasaki. Even if they put forth an offer they will make sure that it's 2nd or 3rd so they won't have to actually pay up.
  14. You talking about Pablo Sandoval? yes that deal made ZERO sense at the time and even less sense in hindsight. Red Sox love to waste money on guys who don't improve the roster. I don't get it. Then they complain their payroll is too high and you look at how high their dead money is from paying money to players who aren't even on the ML roster anymore. Pablo Sandoval signed a 5 year , $95,000,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox, including $3,000,000 signing bonus, $95,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $19,000,000. 15. Your forgot the worst signing, Trevor Story, he has played 94, 43, and 26 games for the Red Sox each season. Absolutely clown school these signings. They don't care about the player health history as long as he's marginally cheaper than the other choice.
  16. Red Sox go dumpster diving again. Sandoval won't even be available for the first few months so this is like a 1.5 year rental. It's hard to express how much I hate the Red Sox front office under this cheap ownership.
  17. The Red Sox have been very serious about coming in 2nd or 3rd place in bidding for all the premier free agents. "Look fans, we TRIED. But Free agents cost too much money!"
  18. He throws the baseball 100mph and is from Japan so of course the Red Sox won't sign him. Skip to 1:23 mark to see his 102 mph fastball. They haven't gone for a Japanese pitcher since Uehara in 2013. The Yankees and Padres are reportedly interested. West Coast teams generally have the best chance of signing top Japan talents for some reason. Posting expenses have gone down significantly but salary demands have risen to compensate. Can't see the cheapskate Red Sox even making a competitive bid.
  19. I'm reading in various articles that Bregman could want somewhere in the neighborhood of 185m/7 years. It's free agency so that could easily escalate to 190-200m based on the bidding. I'm so ready for our owners to 'fall short' of the highest bid again. But let's see. Adding a gold glove to the hot corner and kicking Devers to 1st would improve both our offense and defense in one move. In this scenario Casas would become expendable in a trade for more pitching. If the Red Sox sign Bregman for 190 and Burnes for 225, they will have spent half the money they earmarked for Soto, and still improved the team a decent amount. No these aren't headline superstar signings, but they would make the team more competitive going forward.
  20. The idea would be to get the particulars of the trade outlined first and make completing it conditional on VG Jr agreeing to an extension or new contract before completing the trade. I wouldn't want to be stuck like the Yankees giving up prospects for only 1 year of a great player. VG Jr declined a 340m dollar deal from Toronto. I think 500m should get it done.
  21. He’s the big right handed bat this lineup needs for sure. My thinking on the trade is get him a year early and lock him up long term to a new contract. We know from experience Red Sox ownership when given the option of falling short in free agent bidding will do just that. Put up a false front and get outbid. Cohen’s deep pockets are another factor. If Red Sox bid 500 and he goes 550 we lose again. Just like with Soto. Apparently our offer was around 715, he went 765 and it was over. when you say pay 800 for Soto instead do you believe the prospects to land VG Jr would be worth 300m somehow?
  22. He's on the last year of his deal and the Blue Jays likely don't want to let him walk for nothing. We negotiate with them a prospect package for 25 year old Guerrero and at the same time we negotiate a new contract for him for 500m to keep him happy and locked up long term. We then sign an Ace level free agent starting pitcher for 200m. As a result we will acquire nearly as great a hitter as Soto who is in his prime and a top of rotation pitcher. Two starting pitchers, a 4x All-Star right-handed power hitting 1st baseman who slugged .940 last season in his prime age. That's a hell of an offseason. Factor into this that makes Casas expendable in a trade without us regretting his loss. Am I crazy or would this be a great use of the Red Sox money and prospects this offseason and at LEAST make us a postseason contender? 23. True Losing Anthony would have been a much harder hit to the farm system. We're still hoping he will pan out and become a top of line up, top 4 batter by this time next year.
  24. I believe losing Teel in the trade for crotchet promoted this trade. At age 26 Narvaez is pretty much MLB ready. His hitting numbers were awful in small sample size but he did tear it up in winter league so who knows maybe he can become league average for a catcher some day.
