  1. I do not see the attraction to Napoli. Take away his one 2011 season and he's like a career .230 hitter (rough guess). What am I missing with him? I've heard he hits well at Fenway, but come on- what opposing player hasn't done that recently?
  2. I do not mind the idea of Hamilton at 3-4 years 12-14 mill a year range. But only if they get a couple stud pitchers. Without a better pitching staff any money invested in bats is wasted money.
  3. Those numbers clearly show my memory was clouded. I am certainly not above admitting I was wrong.
  4. That is great to read!
  5. I guess its not out of the realm, I really hope he could be productive. I do think he took to much crap about being a negative influence, so it would be great to see him come back. I seem to remember thinking his 2010 14 wins were pretty lucky. I personally do not get or like the 1-5 ratings of starters. You want the five best possible pitchers on your staff. I think I'm just grumpy from last season still, just tough for me to have a good attitude looking forward with most of these guys.
  6. Innings Eater- I see this thrown round to describe some pitchers. What does this mean to you? I would think I could eat innings, I would give up a crap ton if runs, but I could eat up innings. So either a guy is good enough or not right? Eating innings means nothing unless your era is respectable, right?
  7. I agree, and in 2010 he had a 4.4 era, which sucks. To hope at 3 years older with a bad track record, and a surgery on a destroyed elbow, a guy can get back to 4.4 says a lot.
  8. Well there is a chance, but it does not seem decent. His era has increased for 5 years in a row, that is not falling off a cliff- that is steadily going down hill. Surgery sure did not help Dice K. Hope I am wrong but I would bet he sucks next season.
  9. I seem to keep seeing Lackeys name thrown around like he might add something to the rotation. While I would love him to he productive I have absolutely no hope that he will be. The guy is not only bad, he is about one of the worst if not the worst pitchers in the league. Having hope in him is equivalent to the folks on here who were sure Dice K would help out the team last year when he came back. Past few years simply show Lackey continually declining to the point of being terrible.
  10. What did youk hit in fenway last year?
  11. Well my primary point is the team needs new direction. We have had plenty of talented players the past few years, and can't get into the playoffs. We could not get into the playoffs the last time Youk played first and we could not get there with Adrian Gonzalez playing first. Furthermore Youk has been declining and I have seen nothing to tell me that decline won't continue. I am talking about letting the team distance itself as far as possible from the identity of the past few years. I think it will be extremely difficult when the first loosing streak comes next year for the team to battle a ''here we go again'' mentality. And at the risk of opening myself up to being mocked, I did not see anything with Gomez that says he could not compete for the job. I expect / hope a team with a payroll like the Sox need to spend it on pitching.
  12. no, no,no. stop looking backwards.
  13. I like trading for Lincecum and signing Lohse to a two year deal.
  14. very cool
  15. I personally wish they would have hired a manager that required no compensation to another team, and also that had no ties this team. That said I see no reason why Farrell can't do well here. I'm glad they got a manager much faster than last years process. I will be positive and hope Farrell can help steer the ship in the right direction. I just hope we can finish next season with a winning record. With the manager done, I believe (in order) they should address: Getting a couple starting pitchers, getting a short stop, and getting a first baseman.
  16. The real interesting thing to me out of this is the SS. Makes me wonder if there are plans in the works to bring someone in. I can't possibly think they are considering Iggy as ready for a starting role. It can be debated that he could develop with the bat.... but he clearly is not ready for the bigs right now.
  17. The more I think about it I don't like the idea of Farrell. I just think it's really important to hire someone with no past connections. They need such a serious "reset". Bring in an outsider, create a new team.
  18. Andrus would be pretty sweet to have. Would rather have Tulo if we could work out a big trade with anyone. Who knows how it will play out.
  19. OK, thanks. I'm not sure I agree but I see what you are saying. I guess to me the idea that the gold glove guy is going to save run after run after run just does not happen from what I see. It's not like every ball to the SS will get by if Iggy is not playing. And the opportunity for Iggy to make an outstanding highlight play seems to only come around once every few games- whereas the opportunity to do something with a bat comes several times each game. I think though that Aviles or Iggy is like choosing if you'd like to get stabbed or shot. We are not in good shape. Really besides LF, RF, 1B, SS, C, 2 or 3 pitchers, and a manager.... we are ready for the next season, lol. Amazing what a rebuild we have on our hands.
  20. Where did you hear the Texas rumor?
  21. SFF, how can you say in the same post Aviles's offense was atrocious and also state Iggy is our best option going forward? Not a sarcastic attack, just curious as to your perspective.
  22. I am a little bit pleased to see them moving ahead so soon.
  23. I could not imagine we have any players that would interest Rockies in parting with Troy. Would love it if we could, but don't see it as possible.
  24. Tough to predict anything about next year since outside of 2nd base and 3rd base I have no idea what the sox will be next year.
  25. I laughed so hard reading this. I remember how high my hopes were early on in the season. It is simply laughable how bad every aspect of this team was. I think my hopes were pretty in line with your predictions.
