  1. I'd be very surprised if Ortiz didn't appeal so he can play in our 3 game series with Tampa Bay and then take the suspension while we're playing out 10 games after that against basement teams. It may even be reduced to 3 games.
  2. There's really not much sense in arguing about which one is a bigger need right now. There's a good chance that injuries or ineffectiveness on the part of Crawford, Reddick, Buchholz, Lackey or Miller will change this argument drastically over the next 16 games before the trade deadline.
  3. Makes sense. And that would explain why a Yankees fan found it necessary to go on a Red Sox forum and start a thread about how classy Jeter is.
  4. Do you have any inside information about the payout schedule for K-Rod and how it compares to the payout schedule for this trade?
  5. $9.5 million isn't "some cash". That's the entirety of his remaining salary and his buyout this offseason. The Brewers won't have to pay a single cent to have K-Rod pitch for them. And all the Mets had to do to avoid the $17.5 million option would be to leave K-Rod out of a handful of tie game situations or appearances to get work in.
  6. I don't have anything against him, he never gave me herpes and he's always paid for my taxi.
  7. The latest is that the Mets sent the Brewers nearly $6 million and will pay his $3.5 million buyout this offseason. If the Mets were only interested in dumping salary they wouldn't have just sent the Brewers nearly $10 million to have K-Rod pitch for them.
  8. Speaking of jerseys, I really like the new road jerseys and I'm also thinking about getting one.
  9. "Mets are looking for big-time prospect return for Beltran, feeling as if they have the best available hitter in (for them) a seller's market." Buster Olney Of course they are.
  10. Crawford should bat cleanup! Rabble rabble!
  11. They didn't. The Mets are paying the remainder of his 2011 salary and he's going to be a free agent after this year because there's no way in hell the Brewers are going to allow him to reach the incentive for his $17.5 million option next year.
  12. That's what I would do as well and I anticipate Francona will do something rather similar. He may bat Salty before Reddick just to break up the 3 lefties but with the way Reddick's hitting lefties it's really not necessary.
  13. With all the lefties in our lineup, there's no way we can avoid having two lefties back-to-back. I could be wrong, but I believe that both Ortiz and Reddick have better numbers against lefties than righties this year. At the very least, they've hit lefties quite well. It's also worth noting that Ellsbury has nearly identicle career numbers vs. lefties and righties. So wherever Crawford hits in the lineup, it probably makes the most sense to bat him next to one of those lefties.
  14. Every knows the Mets are in financial trouble. You're one of the few speculating that they will get little to nothing in return for Beltran because they're in such financial trouble that they only care about dumping as much money as possible.
  15. Why'd the Mets pay the rest of K-Rod's contract to have him play for the Brewers and avoid an option that only vests if he finishes 21 more games when they could have instead paid the rest of his contract to have him pitch for the Mets in a way that wouldn't have allowed him to finish 21 more games? The only net gain they got by trading him were the players from the Brewers.
  16. A guy can be racist and well-liked. That no more clears him of being racist than not having any black players on his team condemns him of being racist.
  17. If Ortiz walks, it's cause we make a play for someone else.
  18. The Mets got fleeced. They had to send cash AND they only got players to be named later in return. If we could get a similary friendly deal for Beltran, I'd be all for it. But it would be silly not to think that Beltran's going to command more than 2 PTBNL.
  19. I like Brian Wilson too. He's just strange, it's not like he's a dick to people.
  20. Over their careers, Halladay and Lee both have losing records against us and are a combined 17-21. We've had much more success against them then most teams.
