  1. I think Aceves is still has 2-3 arbitration years but I could be wrong.
  2. That said, as a starter Hughes has never been a guy who would blow major league hitters away. He relies more on his control and his secondary pitches. I would be more concerned with him tiring and missing locations which seemed to be his issue last year than I would be by the fact that he's throwing 91 mph as opposed to 93. Most major league hitters would probably say there isn't much of a noticable difference between those two speeds.
  3. Fangraphs has his average fastball velocity this year at 90.2 and Gameday has it at 90.1. Both have him averaging around 91 mph in his last start. Fangraphs has his velocity down in this start compared to his last one. If you click on his name in the Boxscore in Gameday and then click on velocity, it will tell you that he's averaged 90.1 on his 4-seamer this year and his fastball averaged 91.9 in the first inning, 91.6 in the second inning, 90.9 in the third inning, 90.3 in the fourth inning, 90.9 in the fifth inning and 90.7 in the sixth inning of his start last night. So while he may have made progress from when he was throwing an 88-89 mph fastball, he's still not at his normal velocity nor is has his velocity improved since he came off the DL. http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=7450&position=P&pitch=FA http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_07_17_nyamlb_tormlb_1&mode=box&c_id=nyy
  4. Nice to see we won last night. Not at all surprised that Reddick was the winning run and Pedroia drove him in.
  5. He has a 5.14 ERA in 21 innings as a starter and a 2.13 ERA in 42.1 innings as a reliever. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
  6. I wouldn't trade for Reyes. He's a guy who had an OPS+ of 101 and 102 and injury concnerns the last two years, and this year his BABIP is .065 points above where it should be with his line drive rates. He's probably due for some regression and I don't want to give up a big package of prospects for someone who's lighting the world on fire now but it likely to be slightly above average offensively and defensively over the next few years.
  7. From the charts available to the public it looks like Hughes averaged 1 mph more on his fastball in his last start that he has on the season as a whole.
  8. After tonight Beckett has a 2.12 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP.
  9. Hopefully this one goes into extras.
  10. Pedroia is second in the AL in WAR by the way. Ellsbury is 3rd.
  11. A fist pump from Beckett? He must have been making fun of the one Neimann did.
  12. The way Beckett's pitching, he'd match up well with any other #1 in a playoff series.
  13. What a clinic by the announcers!
  14. I hope Yankees fans are watching this game tonight. This is why Pedroia's the best 2B in baseball right now.
  15. Wow! I didn't think there was any way Pedroia would get to that.
  16. It would be the Red Sox but it's not happening.
  17. Perfect timing, our next 10 games are against the Orioles, Mariners and Royals.
  18. That nerve issue in the middle of your foot hurts enough to make you want to pass out.
  19. He also won a World Series with us but let's ignore that because he played four years in New York.
  20. Damon is not a HOFer. That's just silly.
  21. Our homegrown hitters have been carrying us this month. Ellsbury - .435/.490/.870 Pedroia - .408/.482/.857 Youkilis - .405/.479/.667 Reddick - .300/.333/.633
  22. Looks like Hughes pitched well today but his velocity still hasn't improved much.
