  1. All things being equal, I'd rather have Yadier Molina.
  2. I never thought we were going to land a big fish and we don't need to. We're on pace to win 100 games with Lester and Buchholz on the DL.
  3. Hughes has a 6.73 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP since coming off the DL. It doesn't appear that much has changed.
  4. This start confirms it, he suffers from Chris Ray syndrome.
  5. But cats hate baseball, that's a fact.
  6. BTW, Cahill is 0-3 against the Yankees with a 9.72 ERA.
  7. Josh Reddick will start in right field Friday night against the Mariners. He'll make the start, despite J.D. Drew being 9-for-25 (.360) with two homers against Friday's starter Felix Hernandez. Reddick hasn't officially taken Drew's job in right field, but actions speak louder than words sometimes.
  8. Clay Buchholz (back) did not throw a bullpen session Friday, as was previously expected. Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that he felt fine physically, but just decided to have another day of long-toss. He could finally throw from a mound on either Sunday or Monday, after which we'll get a better idea about his status moving forward.
  9. First you try to compare Josh Reddick to Daniel Nava, now you're calling an 18 year old shortstop with a .759 OPS in A "second fiddle". I think my cat might know more about the Red Sox farm system than you.
  10. He's a great fielder, I'm not saying he isn't. But having him rated third or fourth among fielders is a fary cry from having him rated as two or three times more valuable than any other defensive player the last two years. And considering defense makes up nearly 2/3rds of his value if you go by any of the other defensive metrics mentioned his value would be significantly less.
  11. I can't wait to see a lineup with Ortiz, Crawford and Reddick and without Drew. Our #8 hitter is going to have a .778 OPS. We're a Lester and a Buchholz away from a juggernaut of a team.
  12. I'd be fine with that price, but I imagine it would take more than that.
  13. As of 5pm tonight, I've on vacation. Hopefully I'll be celebrating with a Red Sox win.
  14. The Rays also handed them the third game, I believe they walked in the winning run. And in the last series they played, Shields handed the Yankees a game on an error trying to pick someone off of third. That stuff evens out.
  15. Nearly 2/3rds of his WAR value the last couple of years has come from his defense. The wording you want to use to describe that is a matter of semantics. As for his UZR rating, that not what I said. I said I don't think the positional adjustment that WAR uses correctly adjusts for his UZR. And many of the other similar defensive metrics out there don't rate Gardner as high as UZR, so perhaps it's UZR that's actually the issue.
  16. Iglesias went 2-for-3 in his return from concussion and Lavarnway hit his 26 home run of the season tonight.
  17. The Yankees lose! That bottom of the lineup is a black hole with 4 hitters in a row with a sub-.700 OPS. The Angels are Rays are both 5.5 games back in the Wild Card.
  18. A teammate of mine from college is at the Pawtucket game. He was impressed with Tony Pena Jr. who went 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 ER to lower his ERA to 3.34. I asked him how his secondary pitches looked and he said, "Got some good bite. Easily would play in the majors."
