He is clearly going in circles. I asked him to point his main argument. He wasn't in a "desire" to debate with me, fine. At this point and being honest, I have no clue of what his point is anymore. We failed. A lot of people walked. We must learn from the past. We have to plan better. We have to execute better. I think that all the board is agree with this. This is pretty much the substance of the debate, I think.

Jung, let me me clarify my position in this "Injuries - No excuses" thing. I want to begin saying that nobody is disputing Theo's "good intentions" in order to build a team. I want to take the debate further. We are debating his short/mid/long future holistic strategy in order to make this team a successful one. Since the Injuries are an important part (I would say a key matter) of the game they shall taken seriously in your business/sportive strategy beyond the period of time. Said that allow me reinforce my last arguments. I'm going to steal the "cause and effect" thing that ORS used, hopefully he doesn't charge me with a royalty . If you analyze deeply and carefully every decision that Theo and his crew made in order to avoid this "Injury thing" you always will find out an alternative/dilemma. You will always find out a cause and an effect. You will always find out a cause-and-effect chain. Unfortunately his choices and his management wasn't the optimal in order to address this issue. The effect wasn't the expected, reason why I can presume that his short/mid/long strategy in order to address this regard (injuries) among a lot others wasn't good. You can not grade a business plan without the final result. They must be linked in order to make a final analysis. This is a principle of management. You can not say that he had a good business plan if the result was a failure. You could have had a lot of good intentions but not a good business plan/strategy. Great CXO or top managements are often judged on the outcome (first tier) and how their business plans reflect the outcome (Second tier). If the outcome meet or exceed the business plan/strategy, your business plan is a great one, otherwise you are only full of good intentions and you know what they say about good intentions. (Hell is full of good intentions). That is my perspective and my opinion about this issue.

Lack of raw material is a constant threat and challenge in chemical companies (ask you daughter ) . Demand Planning in Wholesalers. Forecasting and Replenishment in Retailers. Product development in Life and Science companies. Transportation Planing and Optimization in Logistics. Demand generation(leads)/new clients in almost any industry. etc, etc, etc. The Injury thing is a threat and a big challange in Baseball. You have to deal with them. Can you consider them in your business/sportive plan? Can you reduce the risk? Can you absorb their impact? Yes. None GM beyond the industry make excuses about their threats and challenges but the opposite. They are hired to deliver results and deal with these threats and challenges. They are often paid very well to address these issues. They take accountability if something goes wrong. Top Managers do not have room to make excuses. Theo already took accountability of all these issues. He and his crew walked. Some around here still excuse him. I really do not know why. I do not want to sound like a smart ass but unfourtunatly that is the real life and it can be applied to ANY kind of business. Trust me.

(Sorry, IDK if you excused them for the 2010 and 2011 failures. ) All I'm saying is that since injuries are a very important part of the game, you need to plan them in the short/mid/long future. If you fail because of this over and over and over again, there's a clear sign that they are not doing something well. It's pretty simple, actually. What the hell were those things that they didn't do well? Well, as I said, you can analyse the problem from a lot of angles and period of times. Seems to me that their mid and mostly their long future planning wasn't working out well in this regard (avoid injuries). The goddamn 2010 learninig thing which is part of their short future planining process didn't work it out either. Again, 2010 and 2011 failures will be an antecedent in order to try to avoid this issue in 2012. Will they avoid these issues next season? Today and being honest, the signs tell me.... no. The history has showed us and mostly in our recent teams that injuries are always present in pitching staffs. They think that crappy pitchers can give us that desired depth. They will likely sign Ortiz for +-15 M. Instead, They could have used all that money in signing Kuroda and Wheeler and put a better balanced team and try to absorb this issue. Depth is a way to counterbalance the injuries. Assertive FA signings is another way to do it. Farm developing is other. Physical conditioning is other. Having a decent medical staff is other. Making smart trades is other. And the the list of direct and indirect things could be endless. All these factors weren't enough (bad planned) to counterbalance the injuries, reason why we failed. From some aspects you learn from 2010, then you plan your 2011 season and execute. No excuses.

Your "consequences" are not accurate. I already rest my case. Read it. Yes, unfoutunatly Boston failed, a lot of of people was fired. Seems like JH didn't accept excuses.
