    I know you are a yankee fan and all jacko but unfortunately this is how I feel. When the offseason started I said that we needed not one but 2 solid arms. As u said, we are relying a lot on a bunch of underachieving AND injury prone arms. Aside Kelly, neither of them will be part of our core pitching staff going forward.

    I think Shields > Hamels. Plus he has pitched in the AL (even with those "friendly pitching environments") AND most important he only would cost money.

    He has a solid ERA pitching at BAL, TOR and TB, but when he pitched at BOS or NY he wasn't that good.

    This. Not sure what the right price is. Lester at 120 M would have looked like the right price to me. Shields at 100 M isn't a bargain but fair enough for all parts. Some still saying that the Lester-Shields signing was a pipe dream. I do not get it. They were vey affordable even if it meant not signing Panda and/or HR.

    If we had the coverage and quality at the pitching farm that TB used to run by Friedman in recent years I would have said oks to the "young controllable arms" strategy;... Since we are far to be in that position, that strategy wouldn't make sense right now. Also, you have money. Problem is that they have distributed it horrible. We have a very unbalanced team, and this pitching staff looks mediocre at best.

    I believe Jon here all the way. He said at the time as well that he would give to the Red Sox a "team discount" over and over and over again. Also, saying that they didn't want Lester from the beginning is absurd considering all the diligences they made, even JH himself tried to land him making a last offer in his house in Atlanta. It didn't work out. Let's face it, they shitted the bed big time. They simply misread his value with that ridiculous 70 M offer. They could have landed Jon at something around (120 M) easily. Yeah! He's all gone, unfortunately. I'm just pointing out what Lester himself said just after he signed with the Cubs since some people here doubt it. Now... We have a mediocre rotation going forward. Some people here have a lot of faith on this staff, and it is oks, and probably just a few here and a lot more outside, agree with me saying that this rotation is the worst in the last 10 Y entering into a season. Time will tell.

    I think Spud, Kim, sk and even Bell have disagreed at some extent with me in this topic but I have never ever attacked them at all. Never. The discussion always was about baseball. On the other hand these 2 idiots get irritated about this topic since well...
