    It is still pure speculation. IMO the coaching staff has nothing to do with this. This is exclusively on Porcello. On the other hand and as you said, the FO would know this, and would change that if they felt it wasn't the right thing to do.

    Well, when you bet you have to put behind your feelings, fandom and preferences otherwise you will lose big time; it is hard I know but if you want a real chance to win you have to do it. Regarding Porcello, he simply is a bad pitcher, Kim. I already rest my case to prove that and time is giving me reason thus far. It is what it is. Probably some people around here still disagree with me and it is fine, but it won't change that fact. I do not get satisfaction when he is pounded every 5th night, trust me... But it won't change the fact that he is a bad pitcher, and it is beyond my fandom, so the least thing I can do is take that opportunity and make some cash and you can not blame for that, it is as simple as that.

    Kim, if the approach is the problem, when do you think, he is going to start adjusting the actual approach ... Next start? Next year?, when? Also, Is it fair to say that his adjustments to the actual approach have already begun a couple of games ago but it has not worked out as he wished?

    Thing is that even a good defense is not going to save him every night since everybody makes him contact... Every night. This will tax him sooner or later make him inconsistent and difficult to keep his ERA below 4.

    His SIERA this year looks like his career SIERA. 4... And you have to take it with a grain of salt. His HR/FB rate has been likely the same (even below) when he posted his best WAR number (2.8) in 2013. Also he has the same K/9 (even below) of that year. His BB/9 is also likely the same. In the end there is no reason to think that he is going to post a 3.7 or so constantly in the next 4 years when he posted 4.3 ERA in his best WAR year.

    I think he is something around 4.5 (No. 4 type). Trying to answer your question, Unlikely DET, he will face tougher offenses in the ALE ike Toronto, NYY , Baltimore and even TBR who are not that easy. Also, Fenway will not help him since everybody make him contact. Playing defense is not easy in Fenway, mostly if you have already locked out a guy like Panda playing 3B and Hanley LF. And finally he will always depend on his defense since he has a horrible K/9. When you mix all of the above, here you have the results.

    I wouldn't use xFIP in Porcello. I would use SIERA since it considers batted balls. As long as I recall Steamer projected something in the low 4s. Actually his SIERA throughout 6 years is in the low 4s reason why I was willing to bet with you. Anyways, IMO he is never going to post something around 3.7 and much more less in every year of his remaining contract in Boston. I'm willing to bet my sign again year after year with you to make it interesting, unless you want to bet something else.

    Yup, Porcello's stuff is about the same asaide 2014. It is in the neighborhood of 4.5+. This year is confirming that thus far.

    Bingo! It is not about his approach. It is not about his age. It is not about Farrell. He simply is not a good pitcher.

    You said that those pitchers peaked later in his careers. I got it. what I'm saying is that those pitchers you named had pretty good stuff to believe in that improve at their late 20s. Do you really think that he will improve from 5+ to 3.8 just because he is going to use more his sinker? If that were that easy, he could have improved so many weeks ago, don't you think?

    I think that youth has nothing to do with him since he doesn't have the stuff of the pitchers you just named. He is not Kershaw, Jose Fernandez, DeGromm, etc.... young top talent with stuff, either. Also I haven't heard or read, that this organization changed his approach/development. It's pure speculation to me, unless you have a back up for this. As I said, while I think that Ben and Farrell have to go, I do not think they are that stupid. If you sign a 80 M arm, the least you can do is to let him perform as he used to. If that approach changed, it is probably because his first 4 starts were going very slow, but once again it is my opinion.

    This year he is done. By these days, next year he will be 27 and a half, right?. So.. To me his 30s are around the corner and he has not showed nothing to call him good pitcher.

    I wouldn't put Porcello in the same sentence with Scherzer o Lee, Pal. Furthermore do you really see Porcello posting WARs above 5 like Lackey? Really? His 30s are around the corner and he has only one "good" season.

    As I said to SK, every year emerge several pitchers and way cheaper, thing is to pull the right trigger. If you want a 4.4 ERA pitcher, the possibilities are even more every year via trade/FA/farm.

    3.7 is a very nice number and I would call it deal as well. On the other hand it sounds like a quantum leap for a guy like Porcello to me, mostly these days. I think that he will post what his career numbers suggests, probably bit worse and at best around 4.2.

    Well, as you know, I had been planning that trip for several years but my job and other things did not give me the chance to make it. Fortunately this year I had the opportunity to go and It was really a great experience. I will try to go every year, even if Porcello is on the mound LOL! Regarding Porcello, It doesn't matter what I want or think. As I said, I would have wanted that Porcello proved me wrong. Unfourtunatly what Porcello has shown which is very bad, is actually what I projected, even worse. I think I was the only one around the board who was against this trade, and obviously that extension. That contract is going to be a nightmare. Porcello is a rich man, I do not blame him or his agent at all. As I said, this is on Ben. He should have waited a dozen of games or so before giving him that stupid contract mostly if they were going to change his approach (still speculation) Anyways, every fan doesn't like a specific palyer(s) for whatever reason and it doesn't make them "s*****" fans haha. While I talk about Porcello, U? loves to insult and star s*** up. It's his modus operandi.

    With 20 M/Y you have an horizon of possibilities every year and cheaper for a 4.4/2.5 WAR pitcher via Trades/FA/Farm. Thing is to pull the trigger at the right candidate. This contract is absurd. Numbers are talking by itself.
