  1. there's a break for the yankees. a weak grounder on a check swing that went right back to the pitcher and it went right under romero's glove for the go ahead run
  2. there is a stat for that, although i'm not sure how reliable it is. fangraphs has a win value for each pitch type that a team sees and they rank the yankees as the 7th best changeup hitting team in mlb. as for the yankees hitting with risp, they hit .266/.368/.452 with risp compared to .270/.354/.432 overall
  3. any thoughts on the rangers? they quietly have the third best record in baseball and they're the only AL team that had a better record than us in june
  4. as bad as our bullpen is, it could be worse. the yankees don't have anyone decent setting up and their current bullpen beyond rivera has a 6.08 ERA
  5. what do you guys think about persuing a trade for the following relievers? kyle farnsworth, having a great year but is a free agent to be on the royals tyler walker, having a good year but is a free agent to be for the nationals. is actually on the dl now but should be coming off in plenty of time for the trade deadline craig breslow, my finally be putting things together. is still young and cheap and would cost more than the other two koji uehara, the orioles have to be dying to get rid of this guy considering they're the worst team in baseball and he's earning $5 million as a reliever
  6. if our starters keep it up, we'll be just fine. we don't need our full healthy lineup when the starters are going 7-8 innings allowing only a few runs
  7. it looks like the yankees are suffering form the same problem as the red sox - middle relief. here's their bullpen outside of rivera chamberlain- 35 games 5.40 era marte- 28 games 4.60 era robertson- 28 games 6.15 era gaudin- 21 games 6.95 era park- 21 games 6.66 era moseley- 0 relief appearances i wouldn't be at all surprised if the yankees and red sox are competing for the same bullpen arms at the deadline
  8. adding one quality middle reliever is not nearly as hard as trying to acquire a big fix like an impact bat or top of the line starter or even a closer. sure there's a lot of demand for it, but it generally doesn't cost that much to acquire a relief pitcher for the last 2 months of the season ala Billy Wagner last year
  9. hard to argue such a well thought out argument lol
  10. middle relief is certainly a concern for the red sox but that's an easy fix at the deadline. i also think it will help to get manny delcarmen healthy, he was quietly having a great year before his forearm strain. he had an ERA in the low 3's and 2's all year until his last outing
  11. just .5 games back. it seems like the more injuries we get, the closer we get to the best record in baseball. when we get healthy we're going to be a scary team
  12. another win from the banged up red sox. we're now half a game back of the best record in baseball. is it reasonable to think that when we get healthier in the second half that we'll be the best team in baseball?
  13. here's some food for though. with that win, the red sox are 16 games over .500. since their 4-9 start, they have gone 43-22 to lead the majors with a .662 winning percentage. and everyone knows that the red sox lead the majors in runs scored and ops, but there's also this trend to consider april - 4.61 era may - 4.29 era june - 3.91 ERA
  14. Win! Only a game back from 1st place now..
  15. that always pisses me off when the mop up guy comes in and walks the leadoff hitter with a 4+ run lead
  16. who cares about the all-star game? it's a popularity contest and the players are better off getting the rest
  17. great baserunning by youk to get to third and score on the sac fly. another rbi for varitek!
  18. speaking of the scorebard, the yankees just lost 7-4 with cliff lee pitching a 115 pitch complete game
  19. why don't we just let the scoreboard do the talking
  20. yankees are rallying in the 9th. it's now 7-4 with 1 out and jorge posada in scoring position
  21. i know i just joined. but i've found that usually when you're on a red sox discussion board and a yankees fan comes in with his team down by 5 runs and the red sox up by 5 runs, the best thing to do is ignore them because chances are, they aren't coming into the thread to congratulate the red sox
  22. sweet, i'll take a run for an out
  23. oh look! there's still a baseball game on. we can either watch the red sox lead the rays 5-0 or argue with a yankees fan. it's a tough one...
