  1. ortiz sure does make contact on a lot of his check swings. many of them go foul but it still hurts him in the count
  2. bunting with the bases loaded? that has way too much potential to become a double play
  3. varitek! i don't know how our beat up offense does it, but they keep on truckin regardless of who's in the lineup
  4. just a friendly reminder : )
  5. oh, look! a baseball game's on
  6. glad to see we're all getting along. the sox are winning and the yankees are losing, let's enjoy it!
  7. damn, that feels good! big papi and the rest of the offense just keeps on chuggin...
  8. hughes was making the seattle/new york box score look like a picket fence, allowing single runs in four straight innings, but seattle just touched him for 3 in the 6th. the hard hitting mariners now lead 7-1, let's take advantage
  9. beltre just avoided a collision with varitek. hopefully that was our potential injury of the game
  10. looks like the hitters are seeing shields a little better now. those two warning track outs to right field would be home runs in most parks
  11. great rebound by lackey! when he gave up the weak single, allowed the runner to steal second, gave up the infield single and went 2-0 on bartlett i thought the rays would score but he dropped in two nasty curves and kept his fastball down and away
  12. cameron just struck out. he must be feeling like s***
  13. cameron must be feeling better. he's played in 6 of the last 7 games and appears to be running just fine in the outfield
  14. this umpire's done a hell of a job calling balls and strikes. there were a couple of borderline calls which many umpires just give to the pitcher even though they're balls but this umpire's called a pretty textbook strike zone
  15. oops, wrong thread : (
  16. i have to say, this umpire's done a hell of a job calling balls and strikes. there were a couple of borderline calls which many umpires just give to the pitcher even though they're balls but this umpire's called a pretty textbook strike zone
  17. if lackey could step up while we're dealing with this injuries, it would be huge. like remmy said, we'll do just fine if our starters pitch well, we don't need to run out the best offense in baseball every game to win
  18. it's not like martinez, pedroia and ellsbury are going to be out for the entire year. and it's not like you need to score the most runs in baseball to be a competitive team. we're going to be getting beckett back soon as well, that will make a huge difference
  19. the rays have been in a freefall lately and despite the injuries we've dealth with all year we've been decisively better than any other team in baseball since our poor start. hopefully we can take advantage of the rays now because they could get hot again
  20. i think i'd just add a bullpen arm at this point unless beckett and ellsbury still aren't ready by the trade deadline. there's no reason to believe that the offense isn't going to continue to be one of the best in baseball if not the best this year considering we've been the best offense so far even though we've been running out multiple bench players most games. and between beckett and lackey, you figure we'll get a servicable number three starter
  21. no thanks. to compare it to camping i'd rather be in a secluded area of the woods in a tent than sit in a crouded RV park with a few trees because it's more comfortable. this is baseball, it's not meant to be as comfortable as possible. i'd rather sit in an old wooden seat and eat hot dogs and beer in the same stadium that guys like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Ted Williams played in that sit in a bigger, plastic seat, eat at a steak house and watch the game on a tv screen from my obstructed view seat. if you want to be comfortable, watch at home.
  22. another injury, another win. this team has been remarkably resilient. even with all the injuries we're on pace to win 98 games, if we could ever get healthy we could easily win 100+ games
  23. i'm not worried about the offense, we lead the majors in runs scored and OPS and there are plenty of players who have been hurt like ellsbury and cameron or got off to slow starts like again cameron and drew. i'm more concerned about the pitching i think beckett getting healthy and lackey pitching more like his career average is the difference between the red sox being a 90 win team or a 100 win team
  24. well we were bound to lose a series eventually. hard to be upset considering that's our first series loss in the last 12 series
