Bill Smith set them back years and they're still not fully recovered, even though Terry Ryan is back in the saddle (he should never have left). Since Mauer and Morneau and Cuddyer came through, their minors has been a virtual wasteland, particularly for pitching. There are a couple of decent guys like Arcia coming through the upper minors now, with Sano still to come. Under the circumstances, I think Gardy has done about as well as can be expected.
