  1. Meanwhile, the Yankees have missed the playoffs two years in a row.
  2. The Yankees missed the playoffs for two years in a row. We should expect 150-300 million worth of signings from their camp. I would imagine Lester is a significantly more desirable player than Scherzer because he'll be somewhat cheaper, he won't cost them a draft pick, Scherzer is physically ugly and won't sell tickets, and he's a postseason ace. It really comes down to what Lester wants, and who gives him how much.
  3. I'd rather A-ram at 1/10, Headley at 3/40 than Panda at 5/80. If anything happens to Headley, atleast his glove is awesome.
  4. I would be very concerned about Stanton's concussion. We have been seeing more and more high profile concussions that have been destroying careers of elite players. Morneau had a resurgence this year, but he had several down years after his issues. If Stanton had finished out the year, I'd be more willing to buy on him. I just don't want to deal for another "sure thing" slugger whose injury costs him significant production like we saw with Agon's power numbers from the shoulder issues.
  5. His dWar is skewed by poor center field defense. If you're going to play him in center, you're going to have problems. I don't trust gold gloves, but I do trust Fielder Bible, which also likes him.
  6. The Red Sox have always insulted players on their way out the door. These personality issues all seemed to come up around the same time as the Red Sox trying to trade Cespedes, and not so much beforehand. It is interesting, especially considering that Fielding Bible called him the 3rd best defensive left fielder, and he is contending for a gold glove this year.
  7. This sounds exactly like what the Red Sox PR machine would say before trading a player. Why would they hire Oakland's hitting coach if he already has a beef with one of your middle-of-the-order bats?
  8. Its never good to see a guy with superstar potential never achieve it, but this is far more tragic. What misfortune for his family and organization.
  9. Here's the thing. They're not getting great pitching from mediocre pitching. Their elite defense is making their mediocre pitching look great. Their defense is the best in the majors, and it isn't even close. Lorenzo Cain and Dyson were the best two defensive centerfielders in the AL this year. Move one to a corner, and add 3x Gold Glove winner Alex Gordon to the other outfield spot and nothing drops into that outfield. Salvador Perez caught 75 base stealers this season around a 35% clip and had a crucial one last night. Escobar and Moustakas are having very good years as well. The only weak link is Hosmer at first base, but he's looked fine to me. And have you seen that bullpen? They have three qualified relievers who had ERA's in the 1.00s this year, and that's not including first round pick Finnegan. They're sneaky good. Not the team I expected in the World Series, but the more I watch, the more I realize they deserve to be there.
  10. Rumors are linking him to the Dodgers. Say what you will about him, but if there ever was a guy who could get the best out of bad players, its this guy. He's also very good at pulling a very good bullpen out of nowhere, which makes the Tigers seem like the best fit for him.
  11. It might be an adjustment period teaching him to catch.
  12. Bradley wasn't exactly a fan favorite last year, and Iggy only lasted a few months before being traded away. Glove-only players don't last long in this organization. I'm expecting Russel Martin, or Evan Gattis here next year with CV as backup.
  13. I am not saying anything against particular races or the personalities of the majority of specific geographic areas. I just see so many anecdotes of these players coming from nothing, and acting that way.
  14. What's with all the foreign baseball players who are so incredibly uncoachable? You would think that these guys coming from places like Cuba and the DR would appreciate coming from poverty to riches. Instead they act like princesses. I blame Scott Boras. And yes, I understand Boras is not Cespedes's agent.
  15. Nelson Cruz is definitely available. I doubt the Red Sox want to add another outfielder though, especially a buy-high like Cruz.
  16. In other news, the Red Sox just signed the Oakland Athletic's hitting coach. I would imagine that Cespedes is a very big reason for that.
  17. Cespedes has a clause in his contract that will prevent teams from giving him a QO no matter what. The Red Sox will need to get a high end prospect or Cueto/Hamels/Price (potentially with 3 teams involved) in order to trade Cespedes. The Red Sox traded their ace for the guy, he's not going away for a minor prospect or #4 starter.
  18. Spud, you seem to be one of the few so low on Cespedes and his defense. Why ? UZR considers him a good left fielder over 2000+ innings.
  19. I was thinking the same thing. Mediocre corner outfield defenders, specialize against RHPs. Sure, he has a bit more pop, but Nava switch hits, and is significantly better at getting on base.
  20. If Beckett didn't give up 8 runs in game 2, the series would have gone very differently. Instead of 1-1, the Red Sox would be 2-0 coming home, with Lester on the mound. That would have been a crushing blow. Instead, in a game where the Red Sox scored 8 runs, they lost an unwinnable game.
  21. The win loss record meant absolutely nothing in that series. Not a thing. In the 2008 playoffs, Lester had a 2.36 ERA, and Beckett had an 8.79 ERA.
  22. That's just the way Beckett pitches though. He'll alternate between throwing shutouts and batting practice on any given day. I went to two such batting practice games of Beckett's, and he either hadn't prepared for the game, or just wanted nothing to do with pitching before he even stepped on the mound. He seemed like he had hall of fame talent, and absolutely no self discipline.
  23. From 2010-2013 Sanchez was averaging 190 innings per year, with a blip this year. I'd be surprised if he even had a summer home in the DL. It would also really suck to have Hanley's lazy ass .873 career OPS bat on this team.
  24. Thanks for that game in 2012 where you gave up 6 runs before I found my $100 seat in the first inning. Thanks for ruining Popeyes chicken for me forever. Thanks for letting us miss out on six cost controlled years of Hanley and Anibal. Thanks for getting Terry Francona fired, that was real cool of you. He may have won the team a championship, but he also destroyed the team and everything it stood for. f*** him.
  25. At that price, why not go for Scherzer, and save the prospects? I'd rather spend 7/160 for Scherzer than 4/120 for Hamels who has 400 more innings on that arm is a year older, and hasn't pitched in the playoffs recently, or faced AL hitters.
