  1. It sounds like the Phillies have been asking for a ton of top talent for Hamels, and the Red Sox more or less have moved on. There are too many talented pitchers available to give up several blue chippers for Hamels.
  2. Hanley's deal has been reported by multiple sources. Pablo's deal has been reported by sources citing Heyman, who cites a source from this 14 year old boy. I don't think the Pablo deal is done yet.
  3. Jemille Weeks is the first. Not sure who the next is, maybe Juan Francisco or Dan Butler. That roster is so full that they are going to need to make a trade just to open some room.
  4. I feel like everyone has been saying this for the last 16 months Hey Ben, make it happen.
  5. Rosenthall is reporting the deal is actually 4/88 with a 1/22 vesting option.
  6. Hey. Here's something. 14 year old Jake Wesley was the guy who leaked these signings. He has no connections to Boston, and has never been to the city. We have absolutely no clue whether he is right or wrong until it gets announced. Who know what is true or not at this point?
  7. I like Kelly too. If the trade was Lackey for Kelley straight up, it makes a lot of sense. Trade 1.5 years of a proven #2 for several years of a #3, not bad. I just haven't seen anything good from Craig -- he looks like a salary dump to me, and that kills Kelly's value.
  8. Not official yet. Word is that Pablo is making his decision today.
  9. The whole thing makes the Lackey trade look worse though. This team would look a lot better with him here at 500k, and not having to carry Allen Craig's dead weight.
  10. The Red Sox added 36M/year. They can still trim 10.5/year for Cespedes, 13/year for Victorino, or 5.5/year from Craig. My guess is the Red Sox trade a haul for a cost controlled ace that only costs 5-7 million a year, then sign Shields for 16/year.
  11. Teams are going to do what is best for them. There are several teams looking to trade pitching, so Ben has plenty of room to shop around.
  12. He's currently the 5th or 6th third baseman on the depth chart.
  13. Fred, the other key thing to remember here is that Ben struck fast. None of the top pitchers have been signed or traded. He's filled key holes BEFORE the Yankees, so we have a better idea of what resource he has left, what he can spend, and who he can trade. He's definitely not done yet.
  14. I wonder if the Dodgers need a 3b....
  15. There have been musings of Pablo and Hanley being the Dh/1b of the future. Considering the team has so little 1b prospect depth, it kind of makes sense.
  16. I'm starting to wonder if Ben is thinking bigger right now. He's built perhaps the best offense in the majors, and has a ton of guys sitting around in the minors. Some unknown combination of Cecchini, Xander, Holt, Nava, Cespedes, Marrero, Betts are expendable. That's a group that isn't intended to land Hamels. That's a Chris Sale type load. Whoever Ben is targeting, I believe him to a 20-something ace.
  17. I'll be annoyed if the Sandoval signing is true, but the lineup does look lovely. Sandoval is hitting 8th haha. Castillo Betts Pedroia Ortiz Hanley Napoli Cespedes Sandoval Vazquez
  18. Some reports coming out saying both signings are done deals. Remember in 2012 when poorly made, splashy signings stopped being part of this team's philosophy? Apparently one losing season changed their minds quickly.
  19. Is that first class? That person doesn't look big enough to be Pablo, imo. He looks like he fits in those seats, and I can't remember the last time I fit in an airplane seat at practically half his size.
  20. Really hoping Hanley signs in Boston, and Pablo goes elsewhere. Spending 200 million to fill one position would be a poor use of resources, unless Xander is going somewhere for a 20 year old ace. Hanley has question marks, but damn, that bat.
  21. Those guys were also 31, 32. Stanton's contract is huge because he's a top player, and the team is getting prime years from him, instead of over 30 years.
  22. What are you talking about? Lester has a number. The Red Sox should either meet that number, or look for other options. Waiting weeks for the Yankees is going to hurt this team.
  23. The Red Sox need to put Lester in a room and ask him what it will take to get him on the team. If they wait around for weeks while he considers other offers, its going to bite the team in the ass. Scherzer, Shields, Fister, Zimmerman, Price, Cueto, Leake, and about a half dozen other top talents are available right now. I would love Lester back -- probably more than any other player -- but if he's waiting for the Yankees, then the Red Sox might as well look for other options.
  24. Generally, if you have a big, fat, slow corner infielder, wouldn't you expect him to hit atleast 20 HR a season before paying him 20 million a year? I get it. He's 28, and bats in a pitcher park and has been fairly consistently above average. But isn't there someone else out there? 100 million puts him in David Wright/Adrian Beltre/Evan Longoria territory. He's not even in the same planet as those guys. Why not give Headley a 1/15 pillow contract with incentives? Or check in on Beltre/ Donaldson? If Panda gets 100 million with a .720 OPS, Papi is going to be pissed to be crushing that OPS for half the money. And he well should be.
  25. I'm sure he'll have no problem finding a new place. What concerns me is the timing of it. He was talking to the Red Sox and signing away his house on the same week -- not good timing or a good omen.
