  1. The last year he was healthy-- 2007, he hit 14 home runs with 52 doubles in 157 games at age 23. He has a long way to 30, but since when was 14 to 20 an unrealistic jump?
  2. Is anyone realistically letting Fuentes close?
  3. Positional elitism can go a long way. Teams with a quality catcher/SS/2nd can do a lot of good things. Like in football this year, team's who went without impact TE's took a big hit there all season.
  4. Smells like trouble to me. He better EARN whatever he gets.
  5. The reason why I wanted Olivo so bad was because we'd have a pretty good idea of what we'd be getting with him. With Salty, he might be decent... but he might also be completely horrible while Varitek is on the DL. I heard someone describe this lineup the other day as "Having an incredibly awesome tux on, well-groomed hair, nice tie, cuff-likes... but wearing a really grungy pair of sneakers".
  6. In all fairness... how many American women even know what he looks like?
  7. With 4 outfielders on the team, they all get pretty solid play-time. And since three of them are Cameron/Drew/Ellsbury, Kalish will pop up when one of them hits the DL. Bill James couldn't have predicted everything that happened, and such a lefthanded outfield. He's smart, but no a700, but any means.
  8. In all fairness, super-power teams get tons of fans-- ie 90's Bulls. The Phillies could be in the middle too soon.
  9. I've been proposing to move Ortiz to SS for years.
  10. Yeah, a 3 year contract for a lefty specialist seems like a bad idea. I just think this team is better with Papelbon gone. I put a lot of weight on certain stats, and BS is one of them.
  11. I'd take Fuentes at 3/12 over Papelbon at 1/12 any day of the week. Bard/Wheeler/Jenks/Fuentes are all 8th/9th inning guys. Is Papelbon?
  12. Is non-tendering Pap still an option? Otherwise if they eat 2-4 million, 1/8 million is a very reasonable deal for a closer for any of the teams who lose out on Soriano.
  13. If they go for Fuentes, Papelbon is gone.
  14. I was confused about it at first too. He'll go off for a whole page about injuries, and consistency, HR/FB rates and SSS, and then go ahead and slip in a one-line comment making a prediction that he'll have an OBP of .370 and that he'll be an incredible player, and it sort of gets completely lost in the post.
  15. I don't see A-gon playing as many games as people have been predicting. 160 games after a long recovery process on the shoulder surgery? I'm not saying he'll be in bad shape, but he's no Cal Ripken.
  16. Lowrie will be one of the top shortstops in the American League:D Or... stay on the DL all season.
  17. I agree with all of that.
  18. He hit 1.014 with 48 home runs before his big contract, then averaged .758 and 20.8 home runs per year in Seattle. That's a massive drop, affected by a lot more than park factors.
  19. Its pretty clear to me that Beltre isn't going to perform like he did in 2010 ever again. He'll play superb defense, and hit 20-25 home runs, but a six year deal for a guy who did what he did to Seattle really makes no sense for most GMs.
  20. Yikes, what a consolation prize.
  21. Find the chart you want to duplicate, and hit the edit button, and follow that.
  22. Manny may be an idiot, but that idiot was the MVP in the team's first world series championship in generations. Everyone who ever hated him over-reacted. Quite frankly, if the sox add him, they win the AL in 2011, no question.
  23. So does the rest of America haha.
