  1. 4.07 ERA from Davis in his first full season, Nieman was in his second full season and was an ace in the first half. Price had a huge breakout year in his second full year.In Hellickson's first 4 starts he gave up a total of 6 runs, and will finally get a chance in the majors, the two starts I saw him pitch he looked filthy. These are four dominant young arms, completely ready, all club-controlled for atleast 3 more years.
  2. I don't see them wanting to spend 7/9/12 million on Shields. He's the next to go, plus they have guys to replace him.
  3. Is that from the NYPost article where they sent someone to his house? It sounds like more of the same. He doesn't know yet, and doesn't want Favre-esque publicity. Leave him alone and let him make his decision. He's proven himself enough to deserve his family time now, in the case he won't have it later.
  4. Price, Davis, Niemann, Hellickson... they have better starters than the Yankees at this point. Two or three offensive prospects, and they're back to what they used to be. Don't count a team out with an ace in his 2nd full year in the majors.
  5. Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. 9 picks in the top 60, with their exceptional scouting and farm system, in what I've been hearing is a loaded draft? Yeah, they could very easily win a WS in a few years.
  6. And the Rays continue to reload. For all that has been said about the Royals current farm system, the Rays in 2012/2013 will probably be just as strong.
  7. Its getting to the point where we're realizing everyone was doing it. In the beginning, most of the stuff they were using weren't even against the rules. How about we ban every Yankee from the hall of fame because we believe that pinstripes are cheating? I don't want to argue morality, but banning an entire class of players from the Hall? Come on now.
  8. Arbitration doesn't count because it doesn't mean the difference between contract length, just arbitration dollars. And 2009 was a fluke because he was injured. So besides those scenarios, yeah, his only two contract years have been monster years.
  9. You're in good hands. Seriously.
  10. Honestly, I think that keeping anyone out of the hall of fame is stupid. They used steroids in an era where everyone used steroids. Does that sound like something worth shaming a player for? Its pathetic how the mlb has forced the players to lie about steroid use over the last decade, and it has ruined the reputations of a lot of incredible players.
  11. A career .891 hitter coming off 3 prime years at a club friendly contract. Or a .791 hitter who has never put two back-to-back great offensive seasons together that is costing... oh, not much less than Cliff Lee.
  12. I wonder if Taylor Teagarden is available.
  13. 9 picks in the first two-ish rounds. That's going to rebuild them nicely. The Rays won't be going away quietly into the night for the next ten years. I wouldn't be surprised if Hellickson/Price/Davis is the best 1-2-3 punch in the AL East in 2012.
  14. I think in every generation, there are people who are simply steps and bounds greater than other human beings at what they do. Boras.
  15. A very warm welcome to Talksox from your pal, Pal.
  16. Well, atleast one of the losers in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes decided not to sit on their hands
  17. He played 80 games in 2008, 80 in 2009, and a full season in 2010. Cots says 1.059 years of service, but that's probably pre-2010. They have him pegged for 1 cheap year, 3 arbitration and that makes sense. 500k for 2011, 3 arbitration years, likely averaging around 3/30 because Boras is his agent, plus 3 years at the going price for elite outfielders 3/70. So it looks like the Rockies will be paying 80 million for a 100 million dollar deal, and Car-gon gets paid earlier and gets security 4 years early. I think they both come away winners here.
  18. Player values fluctuate in strange ways sometimes. Look at how similar Adam Dunn's numbers were, and look at the difference in his last two contracts. I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Sox wanted him back-- although I know for sure they'd rather the draft pick.
  19. I think he'll be fine sitting on someone's bench. Being able to play EVERYTHING works in his favor, and he did hit .800 in 2009. Its not like anyone has to lose picks for him, just a tiny contract. And he's only 30. One year at 1 or 2 million is a bargain considering he has a little bit of speed and a little bit of power and can play everything.
  20. Actually 3 sandwhich picks. Everyone seems to forget Lopez.
  21. RSFFL, I just skimmed this thread and just saw your avatar and "Cool story bro". My jaw may have dropped until I read the rest of your post.
  22. So what was wrong with Young again? His stats seem fine, did he get hurt or something?
  23. There are some things I could argue with you in there, but you're right, we're clearly just bored and waiting for the season at this point.
  24. What you seem to be disregarding is there aren't a lot of samples to disprove him being a big home run hitter either. He was drafted in 2005 after being a power hitter in college. He had a mediocore 2006. He then tore through the minors, hitting 14 home runs in 2007. Then he got hurt. Now he pops up healthy and hits a ton of bombs. He's never had the chance to stick at a level and perform there, he's been constantly moving up and getting hurt.
