  1. You're exaggerating. 3/51 is not that expensive to pay a guy until he's 34. And no, the #3 wouldn't be as good as Beckett, but that's the point, you're trading quality for quantity and affordability.
  2. "Closers" was poor word choice on my part, but Texas has made the transition for many of its starters back and forth from relief roles. Ogando, Wilson, and Lewis have all pitched atleast one full season as a reliever in the majors, and Feliz will likely end up in their rotation in 2012 if Wilson leaves.
  3. Isn't Texas's entire rotation comprised of guys who were once closers?
  4. Now here is a crazy idea. What about trading for Chipper Jones to 3B/DH with Youk? Both guys can field the position, but both are getting to points in their careers where they absolutely need the rest. His leadership abilities would be clutch in that clubhouse, and I've heard rumors the Braves wanted to move on from him.
  5. Ethier, an impending free agent, is not worth a cost controlled Buchholz.
  6. Cuddyer may be out of the Red Sox's price range. Last I checked, he is the best OF available who isn't a huge health risk. He has also played at 1B, 2B, 3B, RF, and CF in the last 18 months, which makes him very versatile, thus valuable. I would not be surprised if he is the consolation prize in the 1B sweepstakes.
  7. The Wheeler contract was a very good one. 1/3 on a 3.00 relief pitcher who has spent the last few years in the AL East. He sucked at the beginning of the year, but besides that he pitched to career averages. He just happens to be worth more to the team via a first rounder right now than as a reliever, and I understand that move. Jenks was a fat f***. I said it at the time, and will say it again today. Terrible contract.
  8. Scratch that, they declined it. Wheeler was a type B so they probably wanted the first rounder.
  9. Damn, apparently my wishful thinking didn't work afterall.
  10. Dan Wheeler. Pick that option up! A very good 6th/7th inning guy for 1/3. Hard to argue with that.
  11. So not only did you disappear for a few weeks immediately after reaching 6666 posts, you return on Halloween?
  12. Sounds like you have a good idea for a custom title?
  13. That sounds right. Its only a saving of 2.7 from the luxury cap, but it still helps. The average annual value is lower, so it should immediately go into effect.
  14. Not only is Scutaro arguably the best SS to grace this team since Nomar, he's a gritty guy who plays hurt, and his name never came up in the BostonGlobe. This is a guy who has spent his entire career on the bench, and has fought tooth and nail to start--and even lost that position on the Red Sox in 2011, with not a single public complaint. And he hammered the ball in September when they needed him the most.
  15. I'll be the first to say.... Whew.
  16. Selig will step in if the two sides don't agree. If they had a verbal agreement of a certain quality of prospect to be traded, and Philly doesn't give up that quality of prospect, Selig could get it to them.
  17. Pujols stays in St Louis, 8/220 CC to Phillies, 6/150 Wilson to Texas 5/80 Ortiz to Toronto 3/30 Reyes to San Francisco 6/110. Bell to Red Sox 3/21
  18. Hmm... What about third base....
