  1. Trey Ball looks like he's had one hell of a June. 28.1 IP, 1.59 ERA, 1.09 WHIP. It would be awesome if he starts to pick it up, but he's still not striking out many batters.
  2. Donaldson wasn't available either.
  3. Only Red Sox interleague, but that's not often.
  4. 6 games back from the division, 5 games back from the wild card. Oh boy, this team is not done.
  5. Strike three bunt foul. Can't remember the last time I saw that.
  6. Maybe. I have predicted many of Ben's trades in the past, and this type of trade accomplishes the goals of the franchise. The concern is finding a GM willing trade away that kind of talent -- Gray and Miller seem like the only ones even remotely available.
  7. 3 team trade. Buchholz, Devers, Marrerro is what I suggested.
  8. Mostly the guys whose teams say they refuse to trade them. Gray, Sale, Fernandez, Harvey, Miller, Kluber. They aren't going to be easy to pry away, so the Red Sox will definitely need to get someone awesome from a Buchholz deal to make it happen.
  9. I would like to see Buchholz be used as a chip to improve the franchise. Buchholz to a contender for a top prospect. Top prospect, Devers, Marrerro to a losing team for a young cost controlled ace. The Red Sox may not improve immediately, but they gain some consistency and youth in the long term. They also won't be completely gutting the team, so they could still potentially make a run this year, and will have still have some money to add even more talent next offseason.
  10. He got shelled again yesterday, and single handedly lost the game. He is not a solution. Johnson? Wright? Owens? Any of those guys can put up a 4.50 ERA at worst and give us a shot at winning games.
  11. This team's problems are obvious. At 7 games back, its not completely unrealistic for this team to get back into the race if the right moves are made. The biggest problem right now seems to be ownership pride. Cut Masterson, Napoli. Phantom DL Porcello. Kelly to the bullpen. Get Hanley the f*** out of the outfield. If they're not comfortable with lots of rookies, looking for a low cost inning eater-- maybe someone like an Aaron Harang-- would help. An ace would be lovely, but a #2/3 would be great too. These moves seem obvious to most of us. Besides the last one, I don't understand why they haven't happened.
  12. Here are some key stats for Owens from the last three months. Definitely seeing some improvement in the walks, which has been the biggest criticism he's been getting. April 4.29 ERA, 7.5 BB/9, 1.43 WHIP May 2.47 ERA, 4.5 BB/9, 1.26 WHIP June 3.43 ERA, 2.5 BB/9, 0.96 WHIP
  13. Why is Masterson still starting ? It is as if this organization doesn't actually want to win the games he starts. I would rather a knuckleballer who throws 80mph than a sinker ballet who throws 80 mph.
  14. It is truly amazing what Jed Lowrie's leadership has done for the Astros organization.
  15. I actually think that is an excellent idea. He's clearly talented in an area that the Red Sox have not.
  16. Hanley is on pace for 30 HR, and Eduardo Rodriguez is looking like a future stud pitcher. Ben has made some terrible moves lately, but to say he hasn't found any good players is ridiculous.
  17. In 2011 I remember thinking Buerle was a bargain at 60 million.
  18. So if he has been a #4/5 starter his whole career, why has he been pitching like AAAA trash? Something has to be off.
  19. Something is up with Porcello. Send him to the phantom DL and either let him heal, or fix his mechanics. He's had some mediocre seasons, but never this bad.
  20. I wonder how this affects who the Red Sox will target over the next year. Hamels, Price, Kaczmir are lefties, whereas Shark, Cueto, Leake, Latos, Zimmerman, Fister are righties.
  21. I am thinking along the lines of packaging a high ceiling guy in the low minors for an ace, preferably a controllable one, but not necessarily. Devers and Margot are nice to think about, but who knows if they actually turn into anything.
  22. 6 games. How did that happen? Ben is probably fighting for his job right now... maybe that means he can will a short-sighted move this season. I am okay with that for once.
  23. I gave up on this team a bit early -- they need to play for their lives this week. 7 games. That's not as daunting as 9 or 10. Pedroia and Hanley need to get healthy, and they need to figure something out with Porcello, but maybe they're not out yet. Cueto/Buchholz/E-Rod/Miley/Johnson. Could be an excellent rotation.
  24. Buchholz, E-Rod, Miley make up a surprisingly good core. This team just can't afford to keep putting Kelly/Masterson out there -- Johnson/Wright are significantly better options. I'd also like to see Porcello get a phantom DL trip to work on his mechanics -- something is wrong there, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is something the team can fix in-season.
