It was "bought" because the improvement that lead directly to the WS championship was provided by the big 3. Exactly. This Yankees team wasn't even in the playoffs last year. They go out and buy Sabathia, AJ Burnett and Teixeira in the offseason and BOOM, World Series! Now the 2007 Red Sox were coming off a playoff-less year, but you could argue that Lugo, Drew, Matsuzaka were not what brought them back to glory. 2 of those 3 were nice additions, but it was about the rebound of Josh Beckett. Beckett, acquired via trade and embarassing in his first season with Boston, drove the Red Sox 2007 postseason. (Along with some good contributions from ROY winner Pedroia, solid first baseman Youkilis, Papelbon, and getting late spark from Crisp being benched in favor of an emerging Ellsbury.)

What trade have you really made that has put your team over the top the last few years? UM, Josh Beckett? World Series in 2007? Gom?

Does anyone see a tad bit of an anti-Red Sox thing with Rosenthal? It sounded to make sense when he said he was a native New Yorker in one of his recent pieces, I wasn't aware he was from New York. Actually, signing a 34 year old Roy Halladay to a mega free agent deal does sound like the old Yankees. Beckett would be a (somewhat) younger sign for them. Felix would be the climax.

not really, Sox would still have Beckett, Lowell and Ortiz off the payroll books and no longer be paying Julio Lugo. Love all this money being freed up!

If someone said that the Yankees would do all those things while baseball just watches, you wouldn't find it odd. At all. Yankee fans want it all in free agency, but need to be consistent. Other teams have money, and once in awhile, they will flex it .
