  1. No, no... sorry, I'm not saying he's a closet NYY fan because of the Halladay thing. lol You'd have to go back multiple pages -- i think in this thread (?) -- to see where some posters said he sounded like the Yankees were more his team.
  2. Gom, what championship have you won? ahahaha
  3. it was already in this thread.
  4. btw.... LOL @ John Henry being portrayed as being like Steinbrenner in one snippet from that NY Daily News piece. They say George is like John Henry's "mentor" . And Henry is pressuring Theo to give up the high prospects for winning now. Except the article also states that Theo wants to trade those high prospects for a bigtime hitter, so that implies Theo is not necessarily at odds with John Henry's alleged 'win now' thing. (And we don't know if John Henry is really like Steinbrenner.) It simply seems Theo prefers to dangle his pieces for an Adrian Gonzalez, Miguel Cabrera and Hanley Ramirez rather than starting pitcher Roy Halladay.
  5. the NY Daily News (this time regarding Mr. Halladay): Regardless of what happens with Halladay, there are some in baseball who believe there is pressure on both teams to make a splash this winter. "They have to keep their reputation," a baseball executive said, referring to the Yankees. "Mr. Steinbrenner, he's back winning now and he doesn't want to stop. And if Boston wants to get back in it, they are going to have to get big guys this winter." Translation: The Toronto g.m. is talkin' to the NY Daily News again... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2009/11/29/2009-11-29_halladay_shopping_in_swing.html#ixzz0YFB7zzTH[/b] Mr. Steinbrenner is "back to winning now and he doesn't want to stop".... Ahahahaha. Please tell me this quote doesn't refer to the Old Man. With all do respect to frail George Steinbrenner, he hardly knows what's going on these days -- this quote had to be referring to Hank or Hal.
  6. The Florida Marlins president obviously has no shame. After finally succeeding in securing a new taxpayer-funded stadium for the Marlins in downtown Miami - supposedly enabling the Marlins to have the financial means to keep their star players - Samson demonstrated he has no intention of doing that when he refused to give his best pitcher, Josh Johnson, a four-year extension. Now it also looks as if Hanley Ramirez won't ever see that new stadium in a Marlins uniform as the Red Sox, who let incumbent Alex Gonzalez go, are reportedly engaged in talks with Florida about reacquiring the All-Star shortstop. 7. Bill Madden/NY Daily News says Florida is talking w/ Boston about a Hanley trade. of course probably nothing happens. since teams talk all the time, not surprising
  8. And forget the Mets. I can see those losers not getting anyone, I still think that Bernie Madoff will effect the Mets finances for at least one offseason.
  9. The Red Sox are getting Bay or Holliday... I know Yankee fans would love to see Jeremy Hermida starting in LF next year, but Bay or Holliday is a Red Sox.
  10. The Red Sox waited too long to pull the trigger on the offer, so they dropped the ball didn't they? btw, look up Francona's telling quote on WEEI about Gonzalez. The Red Sox couldn't "pull the trigger on an offer" to a guy that isn't really close to their preferred choice. I mean, if someone is sloppy seconds, can you really drop the ball by not asking them on a date before someone else?
  11. Meh. Who cares? The player isn't that good, it's simply not worth "Did they drop the ball?" whatever, no biggie.
  12. I saw the skank he had an affair with (I still think his wife is more beautiful) than that overly makeup wearing, collagen lip injected chick from new york that he was supposedly humping. He's married to a stunning Swedish model, so I guess it's hard to top that.
  13. People get paid in Canada too for writing bad columns, not exactly shocking LOL http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Columnists/Elliott/2009/11/27/11957776-sun.html For god sakes, I guess the major-league exec IMMEDIATELY dropped the part about the Yankees to counter the Red Sox rumor that was leaked to the NY Daily News. This guy isn't going to the Yankees or Red Sox. After reading further today what Toronto wants, plus the extension this guy will command... Just Pass. Buchholz + Kelly, plus eventual extension... Hughes or Joba + Montero, plus eventual extension... It's just an awful lot. Wait till next year's free agent class.
  14. Yeah... Gom is actually right about something for once.
  15. What rose-colored glasses, I'm hardly gung-ho about supporting everything the Red Sox do. I honestly don't care if their formal offer to Alex Gonzalez didn't come soon enough for his liking. Alex Gonzalez is simply not that good.
  16. Ruth's grandaughter (?) is a Red Sox fan. Babe was cool with kids, maybe not his own though. He sounds like a modern ballplayer. Arod doesn't seem like a great dad, but these Babe stories do kinda sound like a lot of modern athletes. Except modern athletes usually have some common sense to stay in decent physical shape .
  17. and alex gonzalez is not much of a loss here.
  18. Spudboy... Red Sox were willing to offer 3 million for one year to Gonzalez, per Tony Mazz @boston globe. Check again about "Red Sox dropping the ball"
  19. OMG -- Gom Comparing any package that starts w/ Clay Buchholz to a Ian Kennedy/Melky Cabrera duo. JUST. WOW. W O W
  20. http://www.newsday.com/columnists/ken-davidoff/yanks-red-sox-not-likely-to-push-for-halladay-1.1622813 Eh, something tells me Ken Davidoff may be wrong about knowing what the Red Sox will do... especially if it's just speculation -- seemingly taken for fact by the NY Daily News and others ran with it-- that Buchholz and Kelly have to be the starter for talks.
  21. but really, anyone doubt the story was just something the Toronto g.m. leaked ?
  22. Don't want to give up Buchholz, so even if that's a deal breaker, fine. Only give up Buch in a deal for Felix... and Felix probably ain't getting dealt. NY Daily News said Boston would like to wrap up a deal for Halladay by the the winter meetings. Hmmmm... and this was leaked, to a NY paper, methinks it was leaked by none other than the Toronto GM. To get more of that NY-Sox bidding war leading up to the winter meetings. Just when Cashman is said to also be meeting soon with his ownership to set the 2010 budget (the Yankees and "budget" is still kinda funny to type, haha..)
  23. Agreed, alright.... On to something else! http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2009/11/24/2009-11-24_roy_halladay_yankees_sox.html ROY HALLADAY
