  1. Someone use that in their signature, trademarked to the source!
  2. The Mets new stadium could be a tough place to hit for Holliday, he'll love bringing back that Oakland ballpark feel while being in 3rd place to the Phillies and Braves/Marlins That's if Bernie Madoff didn't run away with the money that Wilpon had earmarked for someone like Matty Holliday . . .
  3. It's one thing to say you'd like to play for the Yankees, a contender, but to say the Mets are your #2 choice is .... a tad funny. Hey, if he prefers the Mets over say the Red Sox and Cardinals - Then God Bless Cause that's what you're saying when you say 1.) Yankees 2.) METS Yes. Money matters. But, ah... the Mets - fail !
  4. of course boras get a cut of the money. who wouldnt want a player to get the most so he could get the biggest cut. that's what i said
  5. Scott Boras definitely is a New York guy. Oh... I don't mean it's where he grew up, or where he lives.... or that he even owns one of those "I Heart NY" shirts sold in tourist shops. Nope. But Scott Boras ALWAYS tries to push a client to NY, usually the Yanks. Boras is about the most money. Nothing earth shattering about that. When Barry Zito was a free agent, he put it out to Jon Heyman -- a Boras mouthpiece -- that Zito and his dad would like him to be a Yankee. When Daisuke's bidding rights had been won by the Sox and Boras wanted to play hardball with Theo Epstein and even break the posting system, Boras leaked it to Jon Heyman that Daisuke and his wife really wanted the Yankees.
  6. Even if we trade Buch, our rotation would be headlined by Felix, Lester for years. Excluding free agent Beckett in future outlook.... but yeah, it would be a lot more ideal to have Felix, Lester, Buch dominating baseball together. God, 2010 would bring Felix, Beckett, Lester, Buch together on the SAME team if we kept Buch. Ah, sweet dreams...
  7. Excellent post but tough to pull off without Buchholz. (on a side note .... Daisuke brings the Japanese market appeal for Seattle, which actually matters for Seattle's ownership, but it could be a tough sell for them to give Felix up for Dice, Bowden and even some of those others you mentioned.) " Epstein said one deal required five or six prospects, but the pieces didn't quite fit. The Mariners listened to a half-dozen offers for Hernandez, but elected not to trade one of the best young, established pitchers in baseball." Yeah, gonna have to back up the U-Haul, not that I blame Seattle.
  8. I love it, we need to 'close the gap on the Yankees'. I don't see a tremendous gap, I even like the Red Sox starting staff better. But the difference was offense this year. Who knows what next year's difference will be? Pitching wins though, this team just needs to upgrade a offense that needs some tweaks. I'd just like Holliday instead of Bay and some complimentry offensive players added. No Baldelli types with fragile health. Disclaimer: The Red Sox better sign Bay or Holliday, or they have no shot unless a trade for Adrian Gonzalez or Hanley was somehow put in place.
  9. I don't think this team needs drastic changes, it's not like it would shock me if the Red Sox are playing in next year's World Series. They will be entering a season with a Contract Year Josh Beckett; Jon Lester and a full season of rising star Clay Buchholz and a full season of Daisuke Matsuzaka. These will be starts not going to Brad Penny or even John Smoltz. I think Beckett will be a FORCE in 2010. More like 2007-esque Beckett - he will be 30 already in his contract season.
  10. I think they might be better off with Holliday over Bay and signing a decent option to back up Drew and another backup catcher (don't really want it to be 'Tek, but whatever). Wouldn't mind seeing a Delcarmen trade, some NL team is always rumored for him, not that he's going to be part of any big deal.
  11. wooooo hoooo  Exciting.
  12. hey, we got bounced in the first round of the playoffs via a sweep... but we value "payroll flexibility". i feel better.
  13. http://www.npbtracker.com/2009/10/update-kikuchis-mlb-meetings-red-sox-in-the-mix/#content According to Nikkan, Boston had scout Craig Shipley at Koshien, observing in deep secrecy. Wow.... deep secrecy....
  14. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view/20091015theo_epstein_sees_value_in_patch_jobs_re-arm_with_retreads/ i hope we aren't getting much more of the retreads...
  15. I guess we may not do our job in the offseason... I hope otherwise. But there are articles and opinions galore that this is just a transition year for the Red Sox. Because we are supposed to wait till next offseason for big deals to come off the books. Gammons is even saying that 2011 could be a down year for the Sox. I hope Theo just has everyone fooled into believing he won't do anything big http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/red-sox-gm-epstein-may-have-to-wait-to-reload-1.1523997 (And Off-topic, but....) Anyone else get annoyed reading "upbeat" Josh Beckett's comments following his team's ALDS sweep? http://www.projo.com/redsox/content/projo_20091014_red_sox_10-15-09_KKG3I76_v2.2ca4f70.html p.s. I see Beckett still has his undying love for 'Tek
  16. It's that time of year, to talk about which injured pitcher the Red Sox will sign as their primary offseason addition :stop: (let's bring Baldelli back for the outfield too..... lol): http://news.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view/20091015theo_epstein_sees_value_in_patch_jobs_re-arm_with_retreads/srvc=home&position=2
  17. http://audio.weei.com/m/26916559/peter-gammons-espn.htm
  18. Peter Gammons on WEEI in Boston: - Says he doesn't expect or envision how the Red Sox could do much this offseason. - He says maybe they'll add Ben Sheets. - Doesn't know why the Yankees would want Jason Bay, or the Angels, so thinks maybe the Red Sox give Bay what he wants. - Thinks Bay maybe is a better hitter than Holliday. god, i hope Gammons is just really senile and guessing.
  19. I think the Yankees should add Lackey, Holliday, Figgins and Abreu off the bench this year, all while lowering payroll.... whatdaya think Jacksonian? LOL
  20. "while hanging onto Damon and Matsui." Only half that equation is good. The Matsui part
  21. "There is absolutely no doubt that the yankees will have an impact on the LF market. No doubt." You know Yankee fans get some huge grin out of saying that. They haven't been able to buy a World Series (until maybe this year?) but they excel at just plain buying... "I do think the yankees end up with Holliday if I was a betting man. " Yeah, why not, just buy every elite free agent. Remember to add Mauer in a couple of years too and Pujols when St. Louis doesn't re-sign him "we could decrease our payroll by around 15mil while helping to shape the team for the future." All for AROUND 200 Million, give or take, how do you guys do it? It's tough, but you manage to pull it together...
  22. "then they will likely be watching the Yankees win more WS in the next few years." I'll wait till they even win this year's World Series.
  23. Furthermore, how someone can call Youkilis and Pedroia non-impact players with a straight face escapes me It's sort of a Yankee fan-like thing to say that. I read a Yankee fan's post today somewhere saying that same thing about Youk/Pedroia. I just don't get it. I guess this stuff wasn't said about MVP Pedroia, Youk after 2007 or '08. But now the Red Sox are really down, and people knock ya when you're down... bloom's off the rose of the Red Sox offense. But Pedroia and Youk are impact players.
  24. I like that Example1 has already handed the Yankees the World Series, by the way. I consider nothing a forgone conclusion. Including the Yankees.
