  1. I was actually referring to myself in the third person, thanks.
  2. They costed more than the Twins, by like... 20M They didn't buy their championship AT ALL
  3. He still hits for good numbers now. Almost as good as he ever has. How can you just expect him to all of a sudden be an average offensive player? He's done this throughout his entire career. His lines are inconsistent. So yeah, I guess agree to disagree. Didn't dispute that he was a question mark going into the year. Disputing the fact that his injury was going to heal in time for him to come back. It wasn't an injury that was going to keep him from putting up typical A-Rod numbers upon return. They still displayed their financial might. They have the money to swallow entire contracts. And also, if it were to fill the gap that A-Rod left, I'm certain the Yanks would be willing to pay the price for a rent-a-player for the rest of the season. That is, if it came down to that. And btw Nady's line pre-Yankees: .330/ .383/ .535 He was seen as a guy who could make a big difference at the time
  4. Not as much downplaying their potential as you're overplaying their potential to be average. Derek Jeter: 1999: .349/.438./.552 2000:.339/ .416/ .481 2001:.311/ .377/ .480 2002:.297/ .373/ .421 2003:.324/ .393/ .450 I can keep going if you'd like. This is a trend with Derek Jeter. His lines go up, and then gradually down, and then back up, and down. That's the legitimate trend. He's inconsistent with his lines, BUT, his lines have been consistently better-than-average. And without A-Rod, the Yankees struggled. I'll concede that. But when he came back, they were by far, the best team in baseball. And it wasn't even a close second. That offense was a juggernaut to end all juggernauts. However, they never attempted to fill A-Rod's hole. (That's Jeter's job, a-thank you) Like Abreu, Nady, etc?
  5. And you're downplaying the talent that was there to fit your argument. Agree to disagree. Sure there were injuries, but if you're saying that Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter were question marks, that's just not true. Jeter's been consistent, all-star caliber player throughout the course of his entire career. Rodriguez has consistently been one of the best players in baseball throughout the past 10 years, but he's a question mark because of an injury? I really don't think so. It was more probable that the Yankees put together one of the best lineups in the history of baseball, and if not, they would have made trades to acquire whatever adjustments they needed. For the wheels to fall off, and the Yankees to not make atleast 95 wins this season, all of the question marks would have to have failed. Otherwise, if say, one or two of those questions marks failed, you know the Yanks would have filled the holes with another all-star. They always make sure they're the most loaded team in baseball
  6. You're really stretching that. That's all I'm going to say.
  7. How wuz we s'posed t'know? >: \ Anyways, thanks!
  8. Gom: [insert one-liner about lack of education here] Any takers?
  9. Basically, they had a group of guys who were capable of being all-stars this year. Don't tell me that Jeter, A-Rod, Damon, Matsui, Cano, etc weren't going to have good years this year. That lineup was an all-star lineup
  10. Forgot to add the recently. My bad
  11. Protip-1: There is a salary cap in the NFL. Protip-2: Do not shoot your argument in the foot. You're arguing that the Yankees' financial power and ability to buy an all-pro roster is okay. However, you then say that the Patriots are guilty of the same thing, which is essentially admitting that the Yankees are, indeed, guilty of buying all-pro rosters. Protip-3: The Patriots roster of a few years back consisted of a powerhouse defense, and a powerhouse offense. However, there were several guys who weren't exactly expected to be "all-pro" material. The Yankees, however, have this: Johnny Damon, Derek Jeter, Hideki Matsui, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, Nick Swisher, Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano, Xavier Nady. So basically everyone in their lineup is all-star material, or has been at some point of their career, besides Melky Cabrera. So you tell me, is that a fair comparison? Either way, you still admitted that teams stacked up the ass are unfair
  12. This. He had this technique where he would attack the rebound, and he would get it over a guy who was significantly taller than he was. I don't think anyone that undersized will be as dominant a rebounder as Rodman was Rodman's sole skill lied in defense. His offense was basically, maybe he had some solid post moves, and he was strong on the inside. Otherwise, he was hilarious to watch offensively, because he had no skill whatsoever
  13. Word. Mobile Talksox, would be awesome
  14. You don't think Dennis Rodman, a man who was significantly undersized, was the most skilled rebounder in history? Really? His technique was godly. He would fight for it, he would jump up and he would tip the ball in his favor until it was his board. He's an undersized guy who led the league in rebounding every year. He had a good technique for getting the boards
  15. Actually, people often argue the two as being somewhat equal players. And Pippen was a great role player, and one of the greatest defenders in the history of basketball, as was Jordan. I think overall, Pippen-Jordan is probably a better one-two punch than Wade-James, but offensively, yeah, Wade and James may have the edge. However, Jordan and Pippen also had their Rodman (Also a defensive giant, and the most skilled rebounder in NBA history), as well as other good players. I think in New York, it's probably going to be basically just Wade and LeBron, with maybe another role player or two in the mix. They need to be sure they're not just having two guys and a bunch of bodies afterwards. Otherwise they will fail to meet expectations.
  16. It's not up to Chris Bosh, it's up to the team's salary cap.
  17. That says it all, right there. "I read it somewhere, I THINK". Lol, just had to As for the rumor itself, just don't see it happening. Wade, Bosh, etc are going to command massive amounts of money. However, if they were able to pull in Wade, I doubt James would sign anywhere else. And that team, with Wade (Or Bosh, for that matter) and LeBron, would be absolutely the scariest team in the league. Wade and LeBron are two guys capable of putting up 40-50 points on any given night. It would be Pippen and Jordan revisited.
  18. He's not going to go there unless they can contend. His idol is Michael Jordan. Do you think that he wants to go through a career with just being a high-paid guy, who was always the best player in basketball, but never won a championship? No, he wants to win. If he wanted to be the guy who returned a team to contention, he's done that. He's made the Cavs one of the best teams in basketball by himself.
  19. Ditto Ditto Ditto
  20. Wow... Not going to happen, especially considering that they have a ton of big-name players as it is, and lots of big contracts. I think it's more likely that he remains in Cleveland than anything, or possibly the Knicks. They were talking about the Nets too, but I seriously doubt that. You say that as if: 1. McGrady is still the show-stopper that he was from 2000-2007. His averages have gone down significantly since his days in Orlando, where he was possibly the greatest offensive talent in the NBA. 2. LeBron James would want to play for the Knicks because they added a washed up, former 30-ppg guy. LeBron James is going to go where he gets the best chance to win, and getting a guy like McGrady isn't going to be that extra guy. He wants another superstar who's in the prime of his career, like a Chris Bosh or Dwyane Wade to play with. In fact, the Knicks were unloading a ton of money to try and sign James, as well as another younger superstar, like Bosh or Wade. No, he will go to the team that provides the best combination of: 1. Money 2. The best chance of winning the NBA Championship I don't think Gom's proposal is going to change his mind about anything. I think if someone offers him a massive contract, and also signs another big-name player (Who isn't washed up), he will sign with them. However, with salary caps, the latter may not be able to happen.
  21. What about that $50M/YR contract to play in Russia? Whatever happened to that?
