  1. yeah, after all, they got Youkilis to play 1B.
  2. stick a fork in those guys. they can't wait to get back into the dugout.
  3. small ball is simply team play. getting the leadoff walk, sacrificing, sometimes stealing a base when needed, hitting to the opposite field. becoming a part of the whole. generating runs as a group, not as individuals.
  4. The tweets are saying the Dodgers wanted AdGon for nothing, and were turned down. They are on a buying spree, hunting for salary dumps.
  5. If you watched the mens 10000 m Olympic race yesterday, you were seeing how teamwork is essential to winning. The African runners know that. The great trainer Alberto Salazar had his two runners, Farah of GB and Rupp of the US, who train together, run the race as a team. The result is they came in 1-2, beating the Ethiopians and the Kenyans. I've said before the Africans win the Boston Marathon every year by running as a team--while everybody else runs as individuals. Salazar's methods in the Olympics will change that--he showed how to beat the Africans. The lesson should not be lost on the Red Sox--who have lost the team concept.
  6. It's not the players they have to change, it's the attitude of some of the players that needs changing. And that can only be accomplished with a new manager, coaches, GM and training staff--eliminating the sources of conflict. The organization has gone bad, and LL/Henry made things worse by creating more conflict. I don't understand how Valentine could have accepted the job under the circumstances--it doesn't look as though he has much authority. The front office has been given too much rope, and they are hanging themselves with bad judgement.
  7. The problem with this organization is they haven't recognized the need for change when change was needed.
  8. Henry , where the hell are you? Your team is falling apart.
  9. looks like they leaned on Aceves a bit much. can the management on this team do anything right? where the hell is Bailey? spending the next month in the minors?
  10. first question, post game press conference: Bobby, why wasn't the hot hitter, Ciriaco, in the starting lineup? Answer. Well, I have trouble spelling his name
  11. It's up to the media to ask the right questions-- like why don't the Red Sox get more walks leading off a game? and who really makes up the lineup card? and who really determines which pitchers pitch when? and why they don't force runs in close games?
  12. The Twins are a better smallball team, because they have to be at their salary scale. Henry has allowed his people to spend far to much of his money--without much return. The result seems to be a bunch of prima donnas rivaling the 50s Yawkey days. Not much of a team, and nobody to teach them.
  13. pretty obvious. but it's the Red Sox.
  14. Crawford hitting better lately. Maybe he'll stay in the two-hole. Unless Pedey complains to Cherington. Just kidding--I think.
  15. You can chalk that up to the front office changing their tune on priorities. Bringing in guys that don't walk or get on base. Why is Punto starting instead of Ciriaco? Aviles at 3B? The answer is winning is not their priority.
  16. The latest Borges this morning: http://bostonherald.com/sports/columnists/view.bg?&articleid=1061150827&format=&page=1&listingType=sco#articleFull Noticeable shift in the media's view of the Red Sox since the Crawford "rest" eposide. There is pretty much a consensus forming that "it's the management, stupid". And I don't mean Bobby V, though he has been much too cooperative with the media when asked about his views of certain players. Henry should hope V will hold on until the end of the season, because I doubt anybody else would be foolish enough to take that job right now. Atr the end of the season, Henry needs to sell the team, or go through the organization with a broom.
  17. Time to get rid of that Front Office, folks. They've lost a lot of guys --Epstein, Burns, Hoyer--and are left with a questionable lot. You might call them the leftovers nobody else wanted to promote. The mistake Lucky made was hiring an outside manager, and leaving him at the mercy of a bunch of insiders. Epstein should have been replaced with an outsider. And none of this should have been done publically--putting them at the mercy of the media. Another thing--Valentine is pretty stupid answering questions candidly about individual players during press conferences or radio shows. Tito was never that stupid.
