  1. Papa John leads the world in Pizza TV commercials the last year or so. They advertise "fresh ingredients."
  2. In the old days, when a starter like Beckett was struggling, they moved him to the bullpen until he got straightened out. Nowadays, they just let him hang in the breeze, getting bombed every start. Baseball is moving backwards in some ways. Especially with the Red Sox.
  3. In Boston, his acute anxiety would become chronic.
  4. Aviles can play 3B. But Punto has a 2-year contract, and the front office would play a dog if he had a 2 year contract. Ciriaco should be playing SS. Time and time again, we see this front office not putting the best team out there because of other overriding factors. Their policy sucks. The team just doesn't put winning at the highest priority. That unified show of "approval" for Bobby V yesterday is one of the biggest jokes in sports I've seen this year. A blatant attempt to deflect the blame from the real culprits--the people doing the "approval". They have no credibility.
  5. What doesn't happen enough is a fan ejecting an umpire.
  6. That Alison Felix is a phenomenal runner in the 200m. Won her heat jogging.
  7. why bring in Melancon in that situation. the guy sucks under pressure. still trying to justify that trade?
  8. I see Cherington has Punto in his starting lineup again, and Ciriaco on the bench.
  9. NBC really loves bikini beach volleyball. A steady diet of it day and night. The least they could do is put the girls in g-strings. That would get their ratings up.
  10. Looks like V is getting help with that lineup card. Ciriaco still sits. Their hottest hitter. The fools.
  11. Last night, the Red Sox put it together and dominated a top team. They have the talent to do that. Can they do it consistently? That's the big question. Their highest paid players will have to play to their potential.
  12. Great win for the players. Is this finally the real Carl Crawford? Maybe they've decided to play for the manager. They have the talent to make the playoffs.
  13. So Henry emails WEEI and states "we are not firing the manager." What a feeble effort to deflect the real problems on the Red Sox! It isn't the manager, stupid. It's you and Larry and the front office and the coaches and that trainer of yours--the guy who overrules the manager on who should be playing on a given night. And all the turf struggles on the Red Sox. That's the problem, John. Not Bobby Valentine. The problems were there before him, and he hasn't been given the authority to solve them. Instead, you kept the status quo in the rest of the organization, and they have rebelled against him. John, you ought to stick to hedge funds. You're a lousy administrator. Sell the team.
  14. Valentine should quit. If he doesn't quit now, he surely will quit at the end of the season. He's a wordy guy, and he has been eviscerated for every word he has said this year--not only by the media but his own players. It was impossible for a new manager to come in and change the climate, with most of the rest of the organization left intact--and rigidly status quo. It was LL/Henry's great failure to recognize after last season. This team has been allowed to get out of control, and I doubt any manager right now can fix it. They will have to clean house higher up, and restore some discipline to the organization. I don't have any answers, but if I were the owner, I would be talking privately to outside consultants about what to do. I don't think the present management can resolve the situation.
  15. The owners in sports put up with all the crap because of the TV money. That keeps increasing and appreciates the value of their franchises.
  16. The NFL is the only pro sport sensibly run. The keys are a hard salary cap and non-guaranteed contracts. That keeps a lid on salaries and prevents the NY teams from dominating because of local cable TV advantages. LA isn't a factor in the NFL-yet. No teams there. In the other sports, LA is on the same footing as NY. In the NBA, most of the big free agents want to go to NY or LA, because they know that's where the media is--and the endorsement money. In MLB, the LA teams have been on a speeding spree this season, buying up salary dumps. The Mets will be next once they get rid of their financially distressed owner.
  17. I think the fans have a pretty good idea at this point the Red Sox have deep conflicts right up the line, aside from Valentine. Even the media is starting to say that. Just a matter of time before Cherington and the front office get put over the coals, as well as LL and Henry. Borges has spelled out the situation pretty clearly in a couple of articles at the Herald. The Red Sox are no longer a topic of discussion on MLB TV, a sign that the media recognizes they have serious internal problems.
  18. When the starter is going good, you keep him in there until he weakens--forget the pitch counter. The Sox haven't played as a team for 2-3 years. Others around baseball have noticed.
  19. AdGon and Crawford are playing better. Morales might be their best starter with Buchholz. To think those FO idiots didn't start him instead of Cook at Yankee stadium. Moved him to the bullpen. A**holes.
  20. Holly and that other American girl were no match for the Chinese and Russian girls. They jerked 40 kgs more.
  21. women's bikini beach volleyball is getting a big TV play in the Olympics. wonder why. what you call a leisure sport.
