  1. Will the Giants suck in the regular season again, and then beat everybody on the road in the playoffs again--and win the Super bowl? Nah. They only do that every 5 years--and just when they play the Patriots in the Super bowl.
  2. These media people have incredible leverage. They can dream up stuff without real sources and get it printed. And some readers actually believe it. There are no real safeguards against falsifying information. Watching that little girl gymnast, Gabby Douglas, winning the Gold right now. Phenomenal athlete. She is what you call--a star.
  3. Why was Aceves in? Everybody knows closers get bombed when they pitch in a non-save situation. It happens many, many times. This is a.500 team, take it or leave it. Lowe would fit in the bullpen-- not as a starter. Many forget he started off his Red Sox career as a closer. And a good one.
  4. Derek Lowe is begging for the Sox to give him a shot. I say yes. The guy was a first rate closer and has a good sinker for Fenway. I would put him in the BP.
  5. The weird Crawford "rest day" in the middle of the Yankee series was the topper. That was an indicator to baseball people the Red Sox had serious organizational problems. They have disappeared off MLB TV.
  6. Reddick couldn't hit, either. Besides, he plays all-star SS defensively. What counts. Let Papi do the hitting. Too bad those FO guys never heard of roles and team play.
  7. The blame game is reaching higher, and Lucchino is now the target in The Herald. Who knows? Henry may be next. http://bostonherald.com/sports/columnists/view.bg?articleid=1061150380&position=1
  8. Hey, they're doing OK--so far. But Cook is pitching tonite. He would have been gone, but they stupidly pitched him in NY just before the trade deadline, instead of Morales. When a team makes stupid moves to beat themselves, you can't have much faith in them roaring back and making the playoffs. That's how I see them right now. A .500 team--give or take a few games.
  9. Andrus is a marginally better hitter right now--.700 OPS--than Iggy, who still hasn't been given a good shot. He was primed in ST, then got a groin pull trying to steal home (??) and was never heard from again. I think it's silly to focus on a guy's hitting at SS-- a critical defensive position. Particularly a kid with upside. Look at Reddick. They blew that one. Iggy is cheaper and probably better defensively. He is their most expensive SS right now, and they should get off the pot on him--though I like Ciriaco better than Aviles. Iggy should be on the roster in Sept, and they should give him some game time to see what he can do. He looked good enough in ST.
  10. Whoever is leaking this stuff is trying to damage the Red Sox. No effort at all made to name any Texas players. It really isn't news.
  11. So now Abraham reverses himself and says Beckett didn't deserve boos. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2012/08/on_beckett_and.html Anybody ever had a back spasm? You have to fall to the floor, and can't move. Of course, he didn't deserve boos--if he wasn't faking.
  12. Big article in the Globe today about Beckett getting booed. Instead of the Globe getting all over this in the wrong way, they should have pointed out that Beckett had a subjective type of "injury", back spasms--something the fans couldn't see--as opposed to getting hit by a line drive or twisting his ankle. So you have to take his word for it that he had back spasms. Well, Beckett's word is not so good these days--after skipping a start and playing golf. So he gets booed. They don't hate him--they just don't know if he is really hurt. But what the hell, their editor says, it's a nice story, so let's go with it--and spin it negative. Here's the story: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/ Beckett has had other minor physical problems this year-- a sign he is not properly conditioned. I think their training staff sucks, and some of the players still aren't in shape. That was probably their problem last September when they folded late in the season.Henry doesn't appear capable of cleaning house to solve these problems.
  13. taped earlier, but they don't announce these things because of TV coverage.
  14. V was foolishly non-commital, but Breslow allows Morales to start. That was the purpose of the deal.
  15. Allison Schmitt-USA- just won the Gold in the 200m freestyle.
  16. yeah. It's a marathon. Strange things happen in August and September.Look at the Cardinals last year. That's why the Phillies were foolish to sell. The Sox have a lot of talent, but they have to use that talent properly.
  17. Well, they have a $170 million dollar payroll. Even with all the incompetence in the management, they still have talent on the field.
  18. The Yanks are quite capable of folding with all the age they have--even with those one-sided umpires in Yankee stadium. I think they have been over their heads the first half.
  19. Too bad they had to let Pods go. I prefer him over Crawford or Sweeney. They should cut Sweeney ASAP. Crawford will be on waivers soon. If the guy doesn't start stealing bases, he should be benched. He's not good for much else. Someone said they are still in a cost control mode. I believe Henry cut the money off for the whole year--not just the pre-season. They were dumping salary or holding the line up to the deadline--not taking it on.
  20. Mullen tweeted the Sox "brain"trust had a meeting in V's office last night. They decided that Crawford's every 4th game rest (which fell in the middle of the Yankee series) should be changed to rest when needed. Gee, what a brilliant decision. Wonder how much that episode hurt their trade credibility near the deadline. The media has suddenly gotten very quiet about the Red Sox. Not much on MLB TV about them. They seem to be getting the KC Royals treatment.
  21. I'm guessing Lav gets brought up tommorrow to DH. Ortiz will be out a few more days. They might just carry 3 catchers.
  22. If he can get his knuckler near the plate, he can be effective at any level.
