  1. Should have kept Bard in. Why waste another pitcher here.
  2. 3-run dinger for VMart. Theo is a genius.
  3. AGon can't hit. He hits enough to play SS. Just missed a dinger.
  4. Konerko overmatched. Bard already is a prime closer. Wagner did not look good. 93 won't do it for him.
  5. My advice to posters is to stay on the thread subject, and never criticize a poster personally--just the post and the ideas. It's important to know the difference.
  6. The Red Sox have a lot of problems making decisions on slipping veterans who have been the mainstays of the club in the past. It has hurt them this year. Ortiz and Varitek come to mind. Francona has a tendency to stay with such veterans for too long. Maybe that's the front office. We don't know. I doubt Tito does anything against their wishes. He knows who is paying him. They'll probably have to carry both these guys next year. Ortiz has another $13 mil he's owed, and Tek has a player option. Tito needs to drop Ortiz to 6-7 in the batting order again, where he seems to hit better. Every time he moves him up the order, he stops hitting. Having a DH who hits .224 is a killer. He is making a ton of outs.
  7. Pedro is still effective with that great changeup and corkscrew fastball, even at 90-92. His brother, Ramon, could not come back from a torn labrum--but Pedro is a special pitcher, and might pull it off. He doesn't need to throw 96 to be effective, if he can change speeds and locate his pitches.
  8. Ted Williams autographed picture from 1940s, and autographed baseball.
  9. I agree. Depends on who is hot. Especially the pitching. You have to top out in October.
  10. Unless he has some shoulder damage, he should come back OK very soon--maybe the next start. Wake pitched OK today, so with Buchholz and Dice-K, they should be OK. But Beckett has to get back to form if they are going to do anything in the playoffs. He has to be lights out.
  11. VMart is now the no.1 catcher. The question next year is whether Tek will be back. I think the situation will be unsettled until spring training next year. But VMart solves their problem of Tek's successor. Ideally, Tek will be the backup. He won't get a better deal than picking up his own option at $5mil. Expensive backup.
  12. I think the Sox FO has to look at how they are handling their pitching. I mean the Sox pitching--not the minor leagues. They have no middle relief. If a starter has nothing and is getting bombed (like Byrd tonite), Tito really has no option. The bullpen is all 7-9th inning guys. So the starter is left in until the game is out of hand. Sure, Tazawa was there tonite, but he's not really a middle inning pitcher--just a kid called up from AA. Masterson was the last guy they had who could pitch 2-3 innings in the middle of the game, and stop the bleeding. They have a bunch of 1 inning pitchers in the bullpen right now.Guys who pitch 1 inning each in the 7th, 8th and 9th almost every game. Forget about Pap pitching 2 innings the other night. That was an aberration. You use 3 bullpen pitchers every game, there is no room for middle relief unless you go to 12-13 pitchers. That's why they have to rethink their 6 innings/90-100 pitches and out for their starters.
  13. The Red Sox aren't going to get another team's stopper without paying through the nose--if at all. The Yankees realized that last year, and scarfed up the top two starters on the FA market for a couple of draft picks. Theo should aim a little lower--and stay away from retreads, too.
  14. You mean he waited longer than the length of the TV commercial? That's hard to figure.
  15. I keep hearing about that "inferior" NL. Well, the Phillies are the World Champions, and they have a damned good chance to repeat--regardless of what the media says about the Dodgers and the Yankees.Last year, they beat the Dodgers and a pretty good TB club. And they are better this year. No doubt there is an adjustment necessary changing leagues. And there are a lot of guys who seem to hit or pitch better moving from the AL to the NL. More so than the reverse. And the AL seems to win the All Star games. How do you figure Pineiro winning 12-13 games this year? I don't know. Is there enough data to conclude anything? Certainly not for Smoltz and Penny. If there is an imbalance, the Yankees didn't help matters this year hogging all the top FAs. LOL.
  16. Wagner looks great, but Tito never has enough relievers.
  17. Lester didn't go 7 last night because of a weak groin. What's the excuse for Buchholz? 6 inning starts kill a bullpen. Wagner isn't supposed to go back to back.
  18. A penny for Epstein's thoughts right now. Had to get that one in.
  19. Duncan turned it around for Pineiro and Smoltz. Who's the guy turning it around for Penny in SF? The Red Sox have a great FO, but their coaching may be overrated. Pedro pitched great tonite for the Phillies. 7 in, 1 ER, 9K. And nobody wanted him. Buchholz should watch Pedro pitch, with that great changeup.
  20. Has to be that AAA NL. After all, the Sox have the best pitching coach in baseball. right?
  21. It's a second rate move, but then it's Steinbrenner, so what do you expect. I'm referring to Carter. Interfering with other team's trades is not appreciated , and teams have a way of retaliating when the time comes.
  22. That wavey Yankee troll logo is a distraction.
  23. The starter goes 7 innings, you don't have Paps going 2 innings in this game. Pick your poison, so to speak.
  24. Cmon, Theo, show Paps the money!
  25. Funny how some fans love Tito, other fans hate him. I think he does a lot of difficult things well, but sucks at managing the bullpen. He gets away with a lot of stupid stuff, because he has a ton of talent to work with and the team wins a lot of games.
