  1. He was a neighbor of mine. Yikes.
  2. I did not intend to imply that WHIP by itself was the best way to evaluate a pitcher. I mentioned WHIP because like OBP, it is a useful metric that has not gained widespread usage during broadcasts. And that is something that I would like to see change.
  3. I remember having a conversation about OBP with one of the posters in this conversation in the spring of 2013. Most everyone on this board was really down on Jonny Gomes. At the time Gomes was hitting about the Mendoza line. I pointed out to this poster ( who knows quite a bit about baseball stats ) that Gomes was second on the team in walks and because of it his OBP was about .330 ( not great, but much better than "hitting" only .200 ). The old guard is slow to change. OBP is not yet widely used by many fans or the electronic media. Never the less, it is a far better way of quickly assessing a player's offensive value than BA. The same with WHIP (a great quick measure of a pitcher's effectiveness ). I wish more game broadcasts would show WHIP instead of ERA, too.
  4. Kids just have too many other things to do now. It's much easier to just sit around and play video games and chat with devices. Why bother going outside and running around in baseball activities? That is too much work.
  5. It's cold in the Twin Cities. Hope the Sox bats warm it up!
  6. Effective pocket QBs generally don't need to scramble very much. Brady can barely run but he sure knows how to move in the pocket and avoid disaster most of the time. The same with Manning ( the good one! ).
  7. I say wait it out on Bradley. I think he has shown some promise at the plate. No one should expect him to be a finished product this early.
  8. Steve Grogan was a very good QB and he could scramble ( mostly because he had to! ).
  9. Again, thanks for all your work. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
  10. Very interesting stuff. Thanks for posting it. Where did you get this? "Most TV viewers just don't like sports. "
  11. This story was all over Facebook and in Boston.com. Now some Dolphins player has made some dumb tweets about Sam kissing his boyfriend when being notified about his selection. The media is starved for anything that has a half life of at least a few hours. To me, this is a non-story. Edit: My post in no way should be interpreted as anti-gay. Because that is not how I feel.
  12. NO! Send them down to AAA now!!!
  13. Holding Middlebrooks out is just precautionary at this point. The Sox have Monday off and expect WMB to start again Tuesday. That is why Holt remains in lovely Pawtucket. No need to put WMB on the DL at this time. This is another example of why it would be beneficial to have Drew around.
  14. I have no problem with Jacko starting a Redsox game thread. He is a member of this board. And his allegiance to another team has no bearing on anything. Yesterday it seems that most members were too busy at game time.
  15. Middlebrooks is a scratch. Herrera is playing 3rd in his place.
  16. I feel very conspicuous after stating what a good outfielder JBJ is!!! I saw at least two misplayed balls in center tonight. Neither did any real damage. But He looked stupid on that Rios triple. It should have been a double. Bradley just ran the wrong way and then the ball caromed off the the wall past him. If he had broken straight back Rios would have been held to a double. The kid just need more experience!!!
  17. Ted I was not saying Victorino is not good!!! He's the second best RF in my fandom of the Sox. I just think that JBJ is very good too.
  18. The idea that Bradley is somehow showing that he can not or will not be able to hit MLB pitching is premature and off target. And sending him down to AAA now would serve no purpose. I always think of Pedroia when I read nonsense like this. He was a disaster at the plate his first spring in MLB. Somehow he "learned how to hit big league pitching" while playing in the majors. Imagine that???? And regardless what advanced defensive metric may indicate, Bradley is by far the Sox best defensive outfielder. Oye.
  19. Is there such thing as a typical Pats QB?????
  20. The Rangers are very beatable. The Sox could and should take this series. Onward toward first place!!!
  21. I was surprised to see Gray exit the game so early. I thought "we got'em now!" NOPE! On the bright side, Lackey pitched well again. To bad it was a wasted effort. May I point out that while this game did not end well, the Sox took the series. Now clobber the Reds!
