  1. Felger and Mazz were only good back when they could be the butt of the joke on the Big O show. Mazz is ok sometimes when talking about baseball on his own show. The two of them definitely play it up for the camera like WWE.
  2. The staying on the ML roster isn't a big deal as they can just return him if he sucks. It just depends on which org has room for him. If I was OAK, I'd take like 4 Rule 5 guys since they aren't planning on competing anyway.
  3. Hard to say. Ward was taken last year #1, but had a much longer history of success than Drohan. Drohan really only had 6 good AA starts before being promoted to AAA and sucking. I think he's 50/50 to be taken, but won't go top 5.
  4. There's no way. Maybe one? https://www.mlb.com/news/rule-5-draft-prospects-protected-on-40-man-rosters-2023?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage See if a guy like Kristian Robinson falls to them and make him the 5th OFer? Right handed Jarren Duran (Hudson Haskin)? Steal a DD guy (Carlos De La Cruz)? If they want a RH/1B/LF type guy, go for Heriberto Hernandez?
  5. They should have tried trading him!
  6. And some people on here were saying the CBO wouldn't have any say and would defer to Alex..........
  7. @JakeIggy Red Sox are listed as 1 of 8 teams looking to add multiple starting pitchers, per @JonHeyman Just because the names are available doesn't mean it'll be easy.
  8. If Cora was picking before, it sure didn't work!
  9. @alexspeier Source confirms that the Sox are indeed nearing an agreement with Andrew Bailey as pitching coach. Bailey and Craig Breslow spent five years as teammates with the A’s and Red Sox, and the two are extremely close.
  10. @egohii Giants ranks in FIP under Bailey 23: 4th 22: 2nd 21: 2nd 20: 15th
  11. @tylermilliken_ Late last night, Andrew Bailey was reported to be nearing a an agreement with the Red Sox to be their new pitching coach, per @Ken_Rosenthal . Since joining the Giants in 2020, he’s received a lot of credit alongside Brian Bannister for the pitching lab they’ve formulated. Kevin Gausman and Carlos Rodon got paid in a big way after huge seasons underneath him. Logan Webb has become one of the better pitchers in baseball. Speaks to his reputation that he got an interview for the Yankees bench coach opening. Gotta give him the right ingredients to work with, but he should have no problem instilling Craig Breslow’s vision at the big league level. Communication should be strong.
  12. I don't think this is true. They can clear additional spots prior to the draft. They just can't protect any additional players going forward.
  13. Yeah, there is still a lot of movement left for the 40 man. My guess is that Crag knows he needs to add more players anyway and he sees Wikelman and Perales' upsides. He's going to DFA or trade more guys to make room for other additions. No sense in adding Gambrell et al just to clog up the 40 man now. Likely that one or two may get picked, but Crag hopes that his additions will be more valuable.
  14. We saw enough guys get DFA'd last offseason and get claimed by other orgs. I don't think all 11 would get claimed though.
  15. Yes, they have some marginal trade value. They aren't bringing back what we need to fill out a starting lineup or rotation though.
  16. Crag focused on bat missing ability in his early statements. Maybe an indicator as to why Drohan wasn’t protected and the direction the franchise is moving?
  17. Chris Hatfield “Surprising to me that Shane Drohan was left unprotected. You can squint and see why though - strike-throwing, ability to miss bats, and allowing home runs all regressed significantly in AAA from early dominance in AA. That said, might get plucked in R5.”
  18. I would have let Gillaspie, Llovera, Jacques and Weiss go. Nothing going on there. Gambrell, Drohan and maybe Penrod seem to be more interesting to protect. Easy enough to DFA if they don’t work out this year.
  19. @IanCundall The Red Sox have three open 40-man spots ahead of this evening’s Rule 5 deadline and I think they will protect three pitchers: RHP Luis Perales RHP Wikelman Gonzalez LHP Shane Drohan
  20. Glasnow for Winckowski Wikelman
  21. The Sox wasted Ted's prime anyway. By the time DiMaggio retired, the Sox were on track to be basically a 4th place team for a decade. Trading Ted wouldn't have changed the outcome of the franchise all that much. The Sox were in the wilderness from 1952-1966.
  22. Doesn't have a swing built for Fenway. Pass.
  23. I don't know how anyone could really forecast what Crag wants. My preference would be a RHB with a good glove. Urias has pop with a hole in his glove.
