  1. Henry has a habit of staying in the background and then popping up to complain after the fact. "Oh, I didn't like the Carl Crawford deal from day 1." So why did you agree to the signing, John?
  2. According to Speier, there were lots of internal disagreements. DD didn't listen to others. DD didn't like that Sam was in a lot of meetings. Maybe DD didn't see it that way? Maybe DD didn't want to see it that way?
  3. Is that Eddie Romero's job title currently?
  4. Unfortunately, a lot of the guys they wanted to interview were either under the tutelage of Dombrowski or good friends with Bloom. Of course those guys were going to say no. It's less about firing and more about WHO was fired IMO.
  5. It's a MYTH!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. If this is the case, why didn't BOH leave this offseason?
  7. Maybe? He really has no track record and hasn't pitched above A ball. I think Drohan is more likely to get picked than anyone else. If Penrod is selected, there's a better than 50% chance he's returned.
  8. Yeah, I'm not worried about middle relievers with relatively low upside.
  9. You must think going out for ice cream is fun!?!?!?
  10. Another Zack Penrod story: https://www.mlb.com/news/boston-red-sox-zach-penrod-continues-ascension-in-arizona-fall-league?t=arizona-fall-league-coverage
  11. FanGraphs on the 40 man moves: More interesting than what Boston did Tuesday is what they didn’t do. They arguably had the biggest roster crunch in baseball, with nearly a dozen potential additions and eight or so current 40-man occupants who I’d consider on the roster bubble. Young righties Luis Perales (whose fastball has monstrous vertical carry) and Wikelman Gonzalez (plus secondary stuff) are both young and raw enough to expect they’ll spend their first year on the 40-man entirely in the minors. Prospects Grant Gambrell, Ryan Fernandez, Angel Bastardo, Chih-Jung Liu, Shane Drohan, Juan Daniel Encarnacion, Eddinson Paulino, and Allan Castro all had interesting cases to be added versus not. The relief-only guys (Gambrell, Fernandez) are lower-impact types who were probably safe to leave unprotected, Drohan’s rough second half hurt his chances of being rostered, and most of the rest of the candidates are extremely young and unlikely to stick on someone else’s active roster next spring. Especially as more and more teams tend to err on the side of not adding players this time of year, more and more players fill the potential Rule 5 Draft pool and the chance any one of your team’s guys gets popped in the draft drops through the sheer volume of alternatives. Liu (sitting 95 mph with a plus breaking ball and average split as a starter) could be vulnerable in the Rule 5, especially if teams think his stuff will tick up in relief.
  12. @redsoxstats Helcris Olivarez is an interesting minor league signing. He had tons of prospect helium in 19-20, had an incredibly wild 2021 while showing outrageous stuff, then had a scapula strain / eventual shoulder capsule surgery late in 2022. He missed this year, but returned last month The surgery was far from minor!
  13. I care to talk about Trout getting traded to the Sox because it's fun. I don't care that you think it won't happen. You are just trying to rain on our fun parade.
  14. @AriA1exander SOURCE: The #RedSox are signing LHP Helcris Olivarez to a minor league deal with an MLB Spring Training Invite. The 23-year old LHP Dominican flamethrower is a former top prospect with the Rockies. He has made 50 MiLB starts and has a career 10.4 K/9, and has touched 101 MPH.
  15. Nothing going on. May as well talk about something.
  16. I don't care.
  17. Most relevant? No.
  18. Because otherwise they are paying $250M and not getting the trade return.
  19. I know they spent a lot of time in other cities as the Athletics, but they did Oakland dirty. They can't call themselves the A's anymore.
  20. That's a completely different conversation.
  21. The real Butterfly Effect for the Sox is them just keeping Mookie. That was ownership really just taking a dump on the fans.
  22. I guess you just don't like to watch stars or see a team make the playoffs for once.
  23. Who said this about Mookie? I don't remember that on here at all. Vazquez isn't a big loss IMO.
  24. If they add 6-8 GOOD players.
