  1. Yeah, Sox aren't allowed to sign MiLB contracts anymore I guess? May as well not even field a team in Worcester!
  2. I think the money was "comparable" but he Dodgers offer was higher. The Dodgers also are a better team right now and Ohtani already has a residence in the area and is comfortable there. It's the easiest transition for him. I think SF has a perception problem driven by the media for sure. It doesn't help that the stadium is in the absolute worst part of the city so players commuting in or visiting would only see that.
  3. I would just see which looks best in ST and keep them. Mata has lots of control problems which will be exacerbated in MLB. Slaten probably fits better. Most likely we see a Mata DFA. Mata also has an extensive injury history so he may not even make it out of ST healthy.
  4. I'd keep Slaten as the 26th man and some one of those guys to AAA. What's the harm in using an option year if you like Slaten? Injuries happen so the guy you send down will be back soon enough. Bernardino is likely to be a one hit wonder candidate anyway.
  5. That has them retaining Slaten AND Mata on the 26 man roster which I don't see happening.
  6. It's nougety.
  7. Yeah, no. It’s just the money.
  8. They said it was "comparable."
  9. They could trade or DFA any number of guys at the bottom. There is no crunch.
  10. He was offered the same exact deal with the same deferrals? I find that a little hard to believe.
  11. If they miss out on Yamamoto, they are going to settle for either Monty or Snell IMO. They will overpay for one of those guys.
  12. I'm hopeful, but skeptical and I'll leave it at that. I'm not going to judge Crag until the big fish ACTUALLY get away and until ST ACTUALLY starts.
  13. Just remember, we're lunatics for wanting the Red Sox to be in the top 10 or higher in payroll apparently. God forbid they get in sniffing distance of the CBT again.
  14. @FabianArdaya Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s meeting with the Dodgers yesterday at Dodger Stadium featured star power that included Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman….and Shohei Ohtani, sources tell me and @Ken_Rosenthal. We just don't deserve Yamamoto enough according to some posters! FAIR! We need to be punished!
  15. That's the dumbest thing I've heard. If it came to anything like that, Werner would be more apt to find other people to buy out Henry instead.
  16. I will do my best to take my frustrations out on those damn bums and not other posters.
  17. We know you have another 10,000 words in you. You can do it champ. Tell us piggies what terrible baseball we deserve.
  18. He did. He's part owner, right?
  19. Yes moon, we are just piggies and we only deserve our 78-84 slop. Thank you.
  20. I'm not saying to count on it, just not to always be content to wallow in your own misery day in and day out. I agree that they need to spend in the short term to cover for any current inadequacies on the 26 man roster until there are viable in house replacements. However, I'm not sure offense should be the biggest concern. If they just spent big on the starting rotation, I think the team would do pretty well.
  21. Werner wants to win and wants to spend. He's at the opposite end of the spectrum from Henry.
  22. When Mookie was 19, he was OPS'ing under 700 in Low A. Anthony OPS'd 981 at High A at the same age. Teel was putting up numbers closer to Adley Rutschman than Jason Varitek in his small sample. I'm not sure why you can't get excited at least about those two guys.
  23. I think he sticks, but yes, he's DFA'able for sure. There is no real crunch!
  24. It was telling that last offseason Henry was more angry at Cohen than at all the little market owners who take revenue and don't spend on their own payroll. Which is worse for the game? Which is worse for Henry's checkbook? +1 Miser
