  1. If they push Jacques off the 40 man, it's for another pitcher IMO. Sogard would be an obvious replacement for Hamilton or Romy Gonzalez.
  2. Part of the reason they have brought in Breslow and Bailey is because how the fortunes of CHC and SF turned around under those two. We'll have to return to this in 2 years and see what the Sox were able to do differently if anything.
  3. They won't. If the games were at home, maybe they'd have a shot.
  4. I just don't see why you'd push him onto the 40 man. No reason for it at this time.
  5. Bello didn't even start a game until Patriot's Day last year. They should have DFA'd the bum.
  6. From Bradford today: Breslow added, "Sure there are guys who bounce back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen. And guys who had traditional metrics you wouldn’t get super excited about. And then you see these guys and you’re like, ‘Wait a second, that’s a big league pitcher.’" "This is something we envisioned," said Red Sox manager Alex Cora before Sunday's win over the Blue Jays. "These guys are talented. Tanner, you saw it (Saturday) with the velocity. He threw strikes. Whit, his changeup is better. It’s something we have been searching for for two years. I think Bello is making strides with his slider. Even some guys in the bullpen, they are throwing strikes. But it’s not just throwing strikes, it’s quality strikes. We have been getting a lot of swings and misses, which is important." "I think everybody looks at their players a little bit differently when you’re here and in-person. But it is a very dangerous thing to do," explained Breslow. "I would point to pitch data stabilizes more than most other data. Changes in velocity and changes in pitch shape, those things tend to be real and predictive and lasting. But, yes, it can be a very, very dangerous things to start to draw conclusion based on watching things day to day. I think the biggest difference is just this: A clear understanding and alignment with every one of these guys for what they need to do to be successful major league pitchers. I think together we have created that."
  7. @tylermilliken_ Obviously the Red Sox will need to spend if they want to sign a front end starter, but this is the best of 2025 FA class for starters: Corbin Burnes Max Fried Max Scherzer Shane Bieber Alex Cobb Kyle Hendriks Charlie Morton Nick Pivetta John Means Yusei Kikuchi Gerrit Cole has an opt-out. Justin Verlander and Nate Eovaldi a vesting option. Clayton Kershaw a player option Maybe Roki Sasaki shakes things up if he gets his wish. When you look at all these names, signing Montgomery as a 4-5 year piece makes too much sense. If you can get Burnes next year, great, but I wouldn't count on it. Sox may have to replace Gio and Pivetta next offseason. Missing out this year because of a short term depressed budget would be a long term mistake IMO.
  8. @redsoxstats Next winter's FA pitching class is super overrated and it's only going to get more thinned out @LouMerloni I’ve heard many people say next years FA Starting pitching Class is better than this past one. We forget about extensions. Will there be better options than Ohtani, Yamamoto, Gray, Snell, Monty?? Doubt it. @LouMerloni If you look, a lot of big names. Some are already over 35, even older. Some have recent injury risk. It’s not as good a class as most are making it out to be. This past class will end up being better
  9. @Buster_ESPN Zack Wheeler’s 3-year, $126 million extension is the highest annual salary for any contract extension ever. Time for Snell and Monty to sign elsewhere and get this offseason over.
  10. I don't know if we mentioned it here, but Bonaci was suspended for 2024 last week under the "Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse" policy. This doesn't mean he did all three, but something in that realm. No reports on what happened and can't infer it happened to a minor. Must have been pretty horrible though. Bye.
  11. Sogard only OPS'd 761 last season in AAA. They are going to want him to mash there before he gets added to the 40 man.
  12. I think we're at the $1 scratch-off phase.
  13. I think you'd see Walter, Murphy or Criswell before Winckowski. I don't understand the push to make him a starter.
  14. All I see are the same rumors of: Sox still in contact, other teams see Sox as having inside edge. I think another team still swipes him at the end.
  15. They didn't lose their first ST game last year until March 10th.
  16. It would be nice if JetBlue was a modern facility and you could get Statcast data from there. Then we could know IF Whitlock was ticking up in velo...
  17. Sogard would have to be added to the 60 man which I don't see happening at this point. I think Reyes is still in the drivers seat.
  18. Grim. I don’t think Winck is a SP. i’m not sold on Whitlock staying healthy either.
  19. Houck went 3 Innings, not 6.
  20. Not defending FO, it just doesn’t make sense to add Chapman without moving Devers, Casas or Masa.
  21. Reyes. Rafaela in CF. All of Rafaela’s value is in his glove IN CF.
  22. Don’t you believe it.
  23. He saw the budget and Chapman was immediately crossed off the list.
