  1. That's what the market bears. Pitching is EXPENSIVE. You pay in cash or in players.
  2. I disagree. He'd rather keep the prospects and run them through the system to play in BOS so that he doesn't have to pay FA in future years. If he trades 3 guys for one pitcher, he'll spend more later on more likely.
  3. I don't think Rafaela or Abreu have anything left to learn in AAA. They need to be given a shot to play in MLB somewhere.
  4. He's also a RHB!
  5. What is the incentive for another team to dump top pitching prospects unless the Sox overpay?
  6. Now that would be a very EXPENSIVE trade to make. $$$ would be cheap, but the trade cost would be heavy.
  7. If you trade Mayer, Rafaela is the backup SS in case of Story injury. After that, it's years before another SS will sniff the majors from the farm. At least SS's are cheap on the FA market. I know they are shopping Story, which would mean they'd be holding onto Mayer long term and shopping Duran and Rafaela instead. Abreu just doesn't have the same trade caché.
  8. Gio didn’t want 100M. Gio at least has MLB experience and success.
  9. And yet they are stuck managing Duran and Masa, two very flawed players in their OF. Maybe Rafaela figures out how to hit and Duran is expendable? Maybe the Sox add an additional RHB for one of the corner OF positions (not Refsnyder because he can't field or hit RHP)? The goal should be to get the OF to be average and then go from there.
  10. I wouldn't say the 2013 team was loaded, but ok. This team is clearly not going to be loaded in 2024. The owners don't want it to be.
  11. Yes, the Sox can put up a better defensive OF than the Yanks this year. No, they can't compete offensively with their OF.
  12. That'd be a good defense. Who knows if O'Neill can stay healthy and how to work Duran in.
  13. Soto is a horrific defender. Judge is fine. Verdugo's defense was overrated as hell in RF (career -2 OAA). He was good, but not GG worthy as some people thought.
  14. It was my only point. Thank you.
  15. Have Abreu as 4th OFer. Fine. IDC.
  16. Wilyer Abreu '23: 135 wRC+ Will he repeat it? Who knows? I guess we'll just have to wait until the end up September before we're allowed to comment.
  17. You just asked how the D could be better. I listed a lineup. Like WTH? It's not like the Opening Day lineup is what Cora will run out there for 162. Wasn't Arroyo playing RF on Opening Day one year?
  18. Hoping Judge misses another 60+ games!
  19. Not sure what me responding to a comment about the "D not being better" in '24 has to do with the Sox not having one of the better OFs in MLB. It's a completely different conversation. There's nothing about the Red Sox right now that will be "one of the better in MLB" except for maybe their manager who will be leaving at the end of the season.
  20. I was just looking specifically at defense and didn't want to mention THE BUTTERFLY MAN.
  21. I'm also not sure he'd be decisive enough to make that Slaten trade.
  22. Bloom would have signed Flexen (FanGraph's FA Tracker lists the Red Sox as the signing team anyway) and probably Paxton or Ryu. Giolito would have been too rich for his blood. He also wouldn't have done the Verdugo or Sale trades. Maybe he signs Nick Senzel?
  23. In HOF news, the only players currently tracking above 75% on ballots with 33% reported are: Beltre - 98 Mauer - 82 Helton - 82 Wagner - 79 Sheffield -76 (last year) Sheffield probabably doesn't get in and it'll be a really close call for Wagner and Helton too. I think Mauer gets in and Beltre is basically already in with how the votes have trended.
