  1. I guess. Hoping for a team that is near playoff turns to hoping for a team that is watchable.
  2. From OTM today: Hell, John Henry might be sitting in the owners box at JetBlue Park right now, smugly cackling about his instinct to never give big money to a pitcher over 30 being proven right once again. It’s been reported, going way back to the failed Jon Lester negotiations, that Henry is more scared of aging pitchers than he is of Winter Weekend. But we’re now in year five of John Henry’s grand experiment to limit the risk of pitching injuries by, essentially, not signing any quality pitchers at all, and the results speak for themselves. Because the fact is that you cannot avoid this. It will happen no matter what team-building strategy you employ, and the smart thing for the third-richest team in the sport to do would be to use its resources to be even more aggressive in adding elite pitching, knowing that it can absorb the inevitable injuries better than 27 other teams. But the Sox have chosen a different path. And by being so afraid of pitching injuries, the Red Sox have made themselves more vulnerable to them than any other team in the American League East.
  3. 80 wins now turns to 75 wins or whatever? It wasn't looking pretty before.
  4. Hindsight is 20/20. I don't remember injury question marks coming up when he was signed. Easy to do a little dance about it now though.
  5. At least a lot of the games are broadcast on MLB.tv.
  6. I think the rotational depth stinks, but the reliever depth is very strong. With Giolito getting injured, they are relying on Whitlock to stay in the rotation all year. That doesn't seem likely to me. I think we'll end up seeing starts from Murphy, Walter, Criswell and maybe Gambrell before the ASB. Henry isn't adding to this ballclub.
  7. What's left to sell?
  8. Depending on how long Giolito is out, the Sox have a team option for '26 if Gio pitches less than 140 Innings, which could be likely at this point.
  9. Henry ain't spending on that.
  10. Perfect for moon.
  11. It could have been fine before they signed him? Who knows?
  12. Players rave about the Sox medical staff. It's the main reason Hendriks wanted to come here.
  13. No chance is he opting out. Running a nice rehab squad of Giolito, Fulmer and Hendriks.
  14. @JeffPassan Brutal news: Initial imaging showed Boston Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito likely has a partially torn UCL and flexor strain and could miss the 2024 season, league sources tell ESPN. Giolito, who signed a two-year deal with Boston, may need surgery to repair the right-elbow damage. Good job everyone. Another banger of an offseason.
  15. John Henry deserves this.
  16. Just sign German or Lauer on a cheap deal to get someone in camp. Jeez.
  17. That sounds like a perfect job for you today.
  18. She got tired of the sausage party and the negativity and/or her crew abandoned her.
  19. @jcmccaffrey Cora said Lucas Giolito felt elbow discomfort after his last outing. They’re concerned. He’s getting check ups to see next steps. He’s likely not to be ready for Opening Day.
  20. Criswell? He actually has value as an emergency starter. Mata will probably be put on the 60 day IL or DFA'd. Hendriks needs to be added to the 60 day IL. The overall pitching depth seems pretty good IMO.
  21. People are big mad over a Spring Training game and he reminds them of 2023. In looking at the 40 man roster, he's the worst pitcher left.
  22. We'll have to see if the affect of a West Coast Swing TM at the start of a season is minimized.
  23. Also, he's a LHR with a good GB% and barrel %. The rest of the profile is bad though.
  24. He's on the "has MLB experience and it's still ST so what's the rush in making a roster decision" list.
