  1. @tylermilliken_ . @CarlosACollazo of @BaseballAmerica has released his first mock draft of 2024 and he has the Red Sox taking Duke LHP Jonathan Santucci with the 12th pick. Local kid from Leominster. He’s made 4 starts this spring with a 2.29 ERA, 16.0 K/9, and 4.6 BB/9.
  2. He's not even an average 2B. He's worked on it and is better than what they initially projected, but it's not great. He's definitely much better than Valdez.
  3. “We actually had a conversation with Wink. We’re going to transition him to the bullpen,” said Cora to reporters on Sunday. “He threw the ball well. We’re going to keep him as a multi-inning guy; I don’t envision him as a one-inning guy. It’s very similar to what (Garrett Whitlock) did and Kutter (Crawford). We’ll try to maximize his talent. When he’s out there, we’ll use him for multiple innings. Of course, the game is going to dictate what we do. “Had a conversation with him. Obviously, he was disappointed, which is great. That’s what we were talking about (regarding competition). If everything goes accordingly and he stays healthy and he throws the ball the way he’s supposed to, he should be with us.” It's fine if Winckowski can throw 2 innings out of the pen. He's definitely not a starter though. I'm glad they didn't try to go that route. Now if they could only figure that out with Whitlock..........
  4. Verdugo: 550 OPS in Spring Training and still showing up late It's going to be fun to follow his escapades this year. Reaping. Sowing. What have you. The NY media will get on him harder than the BOS clown show.
  5. @alexspeier Cora said the Sox want to see Yorke getting back to being an offensive-minded middle infielder. However, he praised his work at 2B - while also saying he moves well enough to likely get exposure to LF this year.
  6. @alexspeier Cora said a platoon will be used at 2B. Reyes/Valdez?
  7. @BOSSportsGordo Red Sox LHP Chris Murphy is getting an MRI on his elbow, Alex Cora says. The team will know more tomorrow, but obviously a concern. Another one bites the dust...
  8. Hamilton is DFA'able. I think Sogard could have an impact this year. I really don't know what Yorke can do. I need to see something out of him in AAA. I know they've been trying him out in LF in ST. Has he had any in game time there?
  9. I'm not super concerned about Rafaela either. If they just keep him in BOS, it's not a big deal. Michael Taylor just signed for 1/4 at the end of Spring Training. Unless Rafaela learns to hit, he's not going to cost a lot of money.
  10. If you are the Oakland A's, Tampa Bay Rays or Pittsburgh Pirates, you care about years of control. If you are the Boston Red Sox, in a big media market with tippy top ticket prices, there is little to no reason to care about years of control for a player who likely projects to be a 4th OFer.
  11. I think they'll be worse at the beginning.
  12. Bello Games 1-15: 3.14 ERA, 3.94 xFIP Games 16-26: 4.50 ERA, 3.83 xFIP Games 27-28: 13.00 ERA, 6.13 xFIP Interesting how the xFIPs for Games 1-15 and Games 16-26 are very similar. Games 1-26: 3.71 ERA, 3.89 xFIP How luck evens out over a larger sample size.
  13. It's not that Sogard rides the bench, just that he's a super UTIL guy and that's how he'll be used. It's also his best path to MLB. If he just played SS everyday, he would probably not be really considered for BOS in any capacity. However, if he can play all over the field, he'll be able to find a spot much more easily. Hamilton needs more time at 2B and OF, but his bat just doesn't play. Yorke really doesn't show much at all to me. Not being able to OPS 800 in AA for a bat first guy with mediocre defense at 2B and not enough arm for 3B isn't ideal. If Yorke is moved to a different club, maybe he has a better long term outlook, but IDK. My guess is that Sogard is more likely to carve out a role on this team than Yorke or Hamilton.
  14. The Sox could be fun to watch and still be a last place team. It could be a better team than '22 and '23, but with a worse record.
  15. Just? He'll be 25 this June. He doesn't project as an all star OFer. When he's done with his arb years, he still should be more than affordable. The arb years may be more expensive than the post arb contract.
  16. This isn't going to be a competitive team. Just throw him in AAA and let him mash for now. O'Neilll will get hurt before too long anyway.
  17. O'Neilll was initially penciled in as the RFer. He was pushed to DH as he is still slowly recovering from his ankle injury or whatever. It was the only way to keep Masa, O'Neilll, Rafaela and Duran in the same lineup.
  18. Abreu is also a much lesser prospect. With Rafaela, you don't anticipate using options once he's finally called up. With Abreu, you can see him going back and forth between AAA until the options are used up. No reason to fret about every player's control, just the guys with the greater impact.
  19. With Refsnyder on the IL, no need to put Abreu in AAA.
  20. If they are planning on sitting Rafaela at all, there's no way he starts the season in BOS. I wouldn't have him on the roster unless he's the fulltime CFer. I'm comfortable with Abreu as the 4th OFer.
  21. Tor 96 - 66 bal 95 - 67 tbr 89 - 73 nyy 88 - 74 bos 75 - 87
  22. Platoon of O'Neilll/Abreu and O'Neilll is the weakside of the platoon so gets less AB's? Maybe that's how it's forecasted? IDK.
  23. No, only Sontaran hot dogs.
  24. @CodifyBaseball Latest 2024 AL Starting Pitcher Rankings (via FanGraphs): #1 Mariners #2 Twins #3 Blue Jays #4 Astros #5 Yankees #6 Rays #7 Orioles #8 Rangers #9 Red Sox #10 Guardians #11 Tigers #12 Angels #13 Royals #14 Athletics #15 White Sox Kind of surprising that the outlook of the Guardians is higher than the Sox. Bieber, Bibee, McKenzie, Allen, Williams/Carrasco vs Bello, Pivetta, Crawford, Houck, Whitlock/Criswell/Winckowski
  25. It's a dessert, so they are free to run wild.
