  1. I'd trade Abreu for Paredes because Isaac is better offensively and plays a position the Sox need to fill.
  2. I didn't say the luxury tax number doesn't matter. I said it's a number derived from the CBA. Teams are supposedly trying to make money (job #1) and that would come from the cash number. That's all. Some teams care about the luxury tax number. 1/3d maybe?
  3. Should have just Deversed him.
  4. Things seem to be heading in the right direction, but they have sidetracked themselves a few times IMO (Devers). Let's see where they wind up at the end of the year.
  5. That's what my friends said. They also said it was unbelievably bright. That there was like an insane spotlight on the crowd the whole time or whatever.
  6. That's not how GAAP accounting works. Sorry. The deferrals are based on net present value of the contract, I believe. They push the $$$ to get the net present value lowered enough to fudge the CBT number because it's fake. In '24, the Sox didn't have payroll expense of 9M for Bello, but cash payments of 1M. The luxury tax calc is purely a function of calculating the tax itself. It has nothing to do with how the company would record the salaries on their books.
  7. Jose Ramirez punching Tim Anderson is the most recent KO that I know of.
  8. He has enough voices in his head. Not sure he needs his agent's too.
  9. If they retire, they don't get paid. They'd still have to show up to ST, mess around and get put on IL. Most guys don't want that. (see Stephen Strasburg)
  10. And I assume a trade return for Smith would be HIGHER than a return for Paredes. Not sure they'd do Abreu for Smith.
  11. Walker/Altuve/Pena/Correa would be an old IF. If not old in age, old in spirit.
  12. I can already see the press conference at ST where he talks about the roster being finalized and not being able to get a deal done for 2b, but that he's happy with the group he has. "Obviously, we were pursuing multiple impact players and we weren't able to line up for what ever reason with the other side. We got uncomfortable with the players were willing to put into deals. We were aggressive, but we're happy with the guys that we brought into camp. We felt like it was best to leave our group as it was and use what I think is a strong and deep system to compete for the playoffs this year."
  13. Alonso looks like a rat. Probably sneakily a bad guy too. Pass.
  14. I think Contreras will actually have higher fWAR than Alonso this year.
  15. And teams can trade players before they actually have to start paying them the large extension $$$'s at the end of their contracts. The luxury tax is just a function of the CBA. Aside from calculating the additional tax (pennies TBH) and draft pick issues, most of the arguments on here have been "well shouldn't the owners be able to make money." Well, they are using cash paid, not lux tax basis, in determining operating income for the year and what to pay out as distributions.
  16. I thought they were a mid-market team now? That's what I've seen on here. Also, I need to worry about the team making money rather than signing players!
  17. Probably would give him an extension at the press conference.
  18. 12 DRS in RF. Why move him back to 3B? Scouts already said that his home was going to be COF.
  19. The truck leaves in 6 days. Pitchers and Catchers report in 2 weeks. At some point, it needs to be wrapped up as Breslow will run out of time. Were' 80% of the way to full squad workouts at this point.
  20. He's similar to Rafaela in that he's athletic to hit every pitch. However, he's not showing Rafaela's power potential seen in MiLB. The hit tool has been fine. He either needs to take more bb's or add power.
