    Abuse is far too harsh a word. Didn't hear as many boobirds the past few years. For the back to back putrid seasons, you think fans would have been over the top with disgust. Frankly, the high cost of a Sox game insulates the team from a lot of the negativity.

    Buchholz can't pitch an entire year. Owens is unproven. Johnson is a 4-5 at best and more unproven than Owens. Kelly has shown just enough upside that he should be pitching out of the pen.

    No, but it's the exact reason that you can spend more know while they are cheap. Ortiz will be gone next year (maybe). Pedroia will be traded (definitely). Fretting about signing a bonafide ace just doesn't make much sense to me.

    Why settle on one arm when you can load up. Honestly, DUMBrowski likes power arms and he doesn't have many at the moment.

    With Sox payroll, they should be able to win now AND build for the future. Having Betts and Xander at cheap money helps a lot.
