  1. When you sign a guy for $20M, it's kinda hard to through him on the bench. Panda and Hanley both had better track records than any of their replacements. They were stuck playing Panda. They found an injury to sideline Hanley. Not sure there was anything else to do. Castillo and JBJ both struggled for most of the season. Brock Holt struggled once July hit. I'm not sure there were better options than Hanley and Panda, but they painted themselves into that corner. That's on Ben, not the manager.
  2. I'm a traditionalist Boston homer. When the team is winning, I'll declare my undying love for the Sox. When they start losing, I'll remind everyone that this team is a bunch of bums, that the beer is too expensive, that there are too many casual fans and that we should burn down Fenway. IT WAS BETTER PRE-2003, WHEN WE KNEW WHO THE REAL FANS WERE!!!
  3. Couldn't find one. My guess is that they are so wrong, that they hide that s*** as quick as possible so that people won't immediately ignore the following year's projections. I take zero stock in fangraphs and Bill James' projections as they never seem to remotely pan out.
  4. So consistently hitting the 15 DL and fighting through injuries for an entire year? Sounds about right.
  5. https://reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/3gxd6m/fangraphs_projected_standings_on_april_1/ Had Sox winning 86 games.
  6. I knew it wasn't meant for me. Obviously, I'm right at least some of the time...
  7. Does the TJS suregery now give the recipient an exoskeleton so that the pitcher could now throw like robocop? Not worth the copay to Buchholz otherwise. Just throwing money down the drain.
  8. Homer Jay Simpson > homer the baseball play > Homer the poet > homer baseball fans > Homer, AK
  9. Buchholz would never be DFA'd. That's just silly. No matter howbad he is, they'd keep him around and give him the qualifying offer poison pill.
  10. "The noun traditionalist describes a person who believes the old ways are best, like a traditionalist who favors writing letters over sending emails. Sometimes, though, traditionalist describes someone so rigid that any new idea sounds like a bad one, like the traditionalist attitude that kept some American colonists from joining the Revolution." I don't think anyone on here was using the "sometimes so rigid" definition when talking about baseball views. Not sure anyone here has advocated for the Sox to wear wool unis and to fill a full team of white guys. Unless that's how you really see yourself? Honestly, thought you were better than that though.
  11. Doesn't resemble what you wrote, no mention of "narrow minded"
  12. Since we are about a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting, it seems thre are probably no more major moves to make. What is your projected rotation? How do you see things shaking out during 2016? I think the rotation will end up being: Price Porcello Buchholz ERod Kelly I think Kelly struggles at the start of the year and is put into the BP with Elias being promoted. Buchholz gets injured near AS break and results in Kelly returning to the rotation. I believe Price will have a typical CY season and that Porcello will rebound and pitch more to his 2014 numbers. ERod will struggle at times, but will ultimately earn enough experience to make him a long term fixture in this rotation. Owens will remain in Pawtucket and struggle with command all year. He'll only be brought up if there are two huge injuries to the pitching staff.
  13. Hanley and Panda were signed on same day. Hanley's deal was announced first, so was probably signed first. The move was mind boggling at the time.
  14. I googled the homer definition and it was close enough. Couldn't find anything to corroborate that "traditionalist" stuff though. Don't worry, OP will deliver...
  15. He just used to take a more traditionalist approach to message boards by ignoring all other opinions. He's now clearly just a homer because he's actually reading the posts but actively disagreeing with them.
  16. Being stubborn or narrow minded is worse than being called blindly loyal? It's the same thing. Both are centered around ignoring other opinions that may contradict with yours.
  17. No, because they didn't need a second 3b.
  18. I like you.
  19. Guess they'll let anyone into that place!
  20. Anyway, no, don't retire Tek's damn number!
  21. Don't remember any good OF play from him while in Boston. I do remember him not going all out to catch a ball in the 9th inning of game 162 in 2011.
  22. Plus bad coaching (Zimmer) and ownership (letting Fisk and Lynn go).
  23. But why sign TWO 3bs?!?!? It was a boneheaded move imo.
  24. Those mid-80's Cardinals teams were doing it wrong! Also, see Carl Crawford in TB.
  25. It's more enjoyable for me to be more of a bystander these days. I've had enough "fights" with A700 and pals that it just got boring and repetitive and never accomplished anything anyway.
