  2. We saw this team collapse in '22, '23 and '24. We'll have to see what happens this year. Maybe having a strong voice like Breggie helps prevent it.
  3. I assumed that there'd be an adjustment with the big three the first year after being called up and that they'd be better in '26. It also was a weird lineup going into '25 as it seems like some of the parts (namely OF/DH) didn't quite work. There better be a more thoughtful plan for next season. I think there's still the potential for them to half ass this deadline the way they did the previous few seasons rather than go all out. Selling on Devers for assets that won't help much this season confirmed some of my skepticism.
  4. A small upgrade above Toro shouldn't be cost prohibitive.
  5. Now it's OR 2028? Oh brother... I thought it was going to be rough thinking '25 was the last punt year.
  6. Fitts was pulled because the top of the order was coming up (11.25 ERA third time through) and Keirsey had already hit a HR off Fitts the previous AB.
  7. I know it's the same thing. ✌️
  8. They only have a few days to determine this. Mayer was out for about a month last time he had this issue and wasn't exactly tearing the cover off the ball anyway. If you can get an average 2b and push a rehabbing Mayer to AAA, it also helps protect against potential injury concerns for Story or Bregman.
  9. Pythagoras has them at 62-45. Seems like they've underperformed so far, whereas the Sox have played closer to their expected level. All I said initially was that if the offense got hot, the Rangers were going to make a huge run. Not sure the Sox could match that kind of run. If Chapman's issue becomes a problem and the Sox don't get an outside replacement, the Sox will be in trouble. I said it yesterday and I'll say it today. The bright side: Yankees have an issue with Judge, the Rays have a lot of away games down the stretch, the Mariners don't have a good run differential. Sox could still sneak in with mediocre ball if the other teams don't add.
  10. They punted in '22, '23 and '24. Might as well make a half hearted effort now that they have Crochet and will probably wind up over the lux tax this year.
  11. Weissert isn't pitching the way he was earlier in the season. Hicks shouldn't be in a 9th inning role. It should just dim the idea of using those two to end a game. With Whitlock and Chapman out, not many other options.
  12. They really liked him after 2024. I would have done that trade last offseason? IDK. I think each CBO has the guys they like whether we understand it or not.
  13. I can imagine that Narvaez's legs would be a little tired after squatting for 3 hours. The slowest player per Statcast is actually Triston Casas at 24.4 ft/sec. The only 1b slower than him is Rowdy Telez, second slowest player in the game. Martin Maldonado is the slowest player in the game.
  14. The only person who is wrong is whoever is producing NESN during the game.
  15. Since 2008, the Rays have been selecting in the last half of the draft 70% of the time! If they are drafting high end talent, it's not because of where they are selecting, but because of their scouting, development, other... The Orioles sucked for years and years and had high draft picks. They picked at the top of the draft for 14 straight years from '98 to '11 and it didn't guarantee success. They turned their development team over and have had much more success recently. Will that come with a WS? IDK. They haven't won a WS since Jim Palmer retired 40+ years ago and are now in 5th place. If it took just high draft picks, would the Rockies and Pirates be perennial contenders by now?
  16. He'd probably go unclaimed. Fans in Worcester will have fun watching him. Maybe he can come up with a nice HR celebration for them!
  17. And no matter what, it's still the baseball draft, not football. Half of these first rounders don't work out. Tanking for the draft is a dumb strategy if you're trying to build for the future. Selling off players for good trades would make more sense. Not if you have told your fans over and over that you are going to buy though.
  18. The chance in odds decreases as the draft moves on. Better to go for the playoffs when you can. I don't think there is much of a difference between the 25th and 40th picks. I mean, the current Sox may play their asses off, get into the playoffs and still have a pick better than the 25th. Not sure where you're coming up with 25th and 40th. 40th is like a Comp pick? Are you thinking about QO's or something. I don't get your logic here.
  19. That's what I've heard.
  20. We're not talking a top 5 pick. If they sold off a bunch of guys, they'd still get like the 10th pick. It's a good pick, but not necessarily a slam dunk. If Crochet was going to be out for an extended period, you could sell me on a different strategy going forward.
  21. The 40th or 25th pick? Aside from the difference in bonus pool money, I really don't think there's a real difference in talent at that point.
  22. At this point, they wouldn't lose enough games to make a difference in the type of player they could draft. The draft is a tiered crap shoot.
