  1. "I need a moment" is the most authentic thing we ever got out of the guy. They tried doing a puff piece about him one ST and all I remember of it was the tangent about him drinking Whistle Pig at his hotel.
  2. 77% of all MLB teams have made the playoffs since '22 (expanded era). With expanding playoffs, you have to be a really stingy owner to not get in anymore. A's Rockies Pirates White Sox Angels Nationals Giants (made playoffs in '21 as #1 seed LOL, maybe the only outlier here)
  3. For sure. They figured it out for a playoff run. They could have figured out one more regular season.
  4. If Bogey is here, the Sox have another team leader and a guy that can talk to Devers. Devers doesn't get traded because his bestfriend speaks to him about switching positions.
  5. If they don't sign Bregman, the FA class isn't great!
  6. I think the plan that the Sox allowed was flawed. They couldn't get their prospect through his first season unscathed knowing the risks. Pitching is inherently risky these days. Any prospect's next pitch could be their last for the season. Adding in fielding and hitting on top of that would just increase the overall strain on the body as the demands change once you reach MiLB. Campbell couldn't keep weight on and he was just playing 1B/2B/OF. What would that do to a young player like Cason? The brainpower it would take to learn everything and the wear on the body isn't worth the risk IMO. I believe it lowers the pitching and hitting profiles (can't focus on a position) and increases the chance of injury.
  7. Valera has a little injury concern to me. He may be in AA by the end of the year, but it doesn't mean he's necessarily on the doorstep. Valera and Clarke could also blow the doors off this season and beat expectations. 🫠
  8. That was my assumption. Giants didn't want him and the Sox wanted that contract. Thought they could turn him around and make him the next Chapman.
  9. It has nothing to do with durability and everything to do with (a) how hard it can be for some highschoolers to adjust to MiLB and (b) the increased workload of being a two way player is next to impossible. The needle they are trying to thread with Cason is very small. He's an exciting prospect, but there's an immense learning curve he's going to have at each level more than any of his teammates will see. In the modern era, only Ohtani has been able to do it successfully and he's one of the greatest players of all time.
  10. It's definitely not my ideal choice. He played there more often in '24. The only non-Bregman guy that I wouldn't have to hold my nose for would be Mayer. I'd much rather him at SS and Story at 2B though. Hard to say how the offseason shakes out right now.
  11. I think they did like his arm. What does Hicks remember about Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow’s pursuit of him in the months leading up to the ‘24 season? “I just remember they came after me pretty hard, and they were in on me, and it was between them and the Giants,” Hicks said. “So I'm just excited to be here and feel wanted.”
  12. If that's the case, why didn't they wait until January or February to sign a deal like with other Boras guys?
  13. Is running the Boston Red Sox the same as running Boston Beer Co.? Should it be? For a beer company, the goal is to make a profit and everyone is happy and nobody gets fired. The Sox make a profit every season, but people get fired every few seasons if they don't win enough. Nobody is getting fired at Boston Beer if they don't win a gold medal in beer or whatever as long as the money is still coming in.
  14. I think dealing Early isn't the end of the world if it's to bring back a #2. His upside is most likely 4th starter. Tolle has a higher upside if he can figure out his secondaries. Not sure it makes financial sense to have Masa's 18M sitting on the bench for the majority of the season. If Duran is the DH, find someone to take 50% of Masa's salary and be done with it.
  15. Wait, I'm dumb and deleted the wrong one. Please repost the other one. @Hugh2
  16. I deleted it for you. If you ever want something deleted, just message or @ me.
  17. That's the penalty right now. JH has become risk averse. I think he's going to shy away from going large and long this year because of the potential for a work stoppage in '27 and questions on what CBT penalties may be negotiated during bargaining. With the pushback against the Dodgers, the owners may choose to punish these teams that spend to much because they are cheap and dumb. If it wasn't for the Dodgers plotline, this World Series would have had way less people paying attention to it. Evil Empires are good for the game.
  18. That's why a deal may not make sense for the Sox. If I'm Brezzz, I look at the lack of a pipeline in my org and probably decide just to hold onto Casas because I need bats, he has options, he is cheap and he could potentially still have a high ceiling.
  19. If someone was going to offer me an average MLB reliever for Bleis, I'd take that offer right now. You need to produce on the field at some point. He isn't hitting for power and the low line drive rate is concerning. He either hits a groundball, or just pops it up. He's projected to have a low hit tool, but lots of power and it's just not there. He's fast and looks good in warmups. '25 685 OPS '24 657 OPS '23 607 OPS He hasn't had an OPS above 750 for a partial season since he left the complex league. I just don't see him as a top prospect.
  20. I don't think Valera gets to BOS in late '27. Monegro is out after TJS so I don't see that either. That '28 group seems like it could beat a few of those '27 guys for sure. I like Aita, but he seems like a one level at a time guy. Maybe the '28 guys get adjusted after they see them pitch this spring?
  21. No, people are mad because the Globe printed a dopey picture of him with the Xander story. He wasn't going to match the Padres's offer.
  22. I think both trades on their own are fine, but don't see them getting two TOTR starters this offseason. If they get one, they wrap it up. Bichette would be a bad signing for BOS. I don't like his swing at Fenway and hate his glove. There's also no way they start the year above the 2nd CBT threshold.
  23. What's with the fascination of Rengifo on this board? I'd rather send Romy to 3b fulltime then sign Rengifo.
