  1. If Pedroia's fielding percentage dipped below .870, people would lose their minds. An ump blowing 13% of his/her calls is unacceptable. An ump should have a better chance calling balls and strikes than Pedroia does vs a ball hit in his area.
  2. If he had any semblance of being able to find the strike zone, I'd agree with you. Until he reduces his walks in Pawtucket, I'm not on board. I'd rather have him in the rotation than Kelly or Buchholz at this point.
  3. I just don't see how an imperfect strike zone is an appeal to anyone, especially in terms of entertainment value. We're definitely never going to agree on this point.
  4. I'd prefer if Groome actually wound up with a championship, but that's just me...
  5. Owens is a lost cause. Maybe Johnson can get some good meds and he can provide the rotation something?
  6. Yup, adds additional miles onto Koji and Taz's workload, both of which needed to be reduced this year. I'm surprised the Sox didn't bring in a SP when ERod when down, but even more surprised they didn't bring another reliever in when Carson got hurt.
  7. Two terms that need to die.
  8. Aside from Michael Holley, I haven't heard anyone on EEI mention Espinoza by name. I wouldn't trade a high profile arm like his unless the Sox have concerns that he won't reach his potential.
  9. Needs to go in the Prospects forum where he's already been talked about.
  10. I've just been depressed since I looked into the status of the umpire's union contract. Since it won't expire until 1/1/20, there's no way any substantial changes will be made until then. Once the Sox get rid of Buchholz, I'll be able to change my sig to Robot Umps 2020.
  11. I lived on Oak/Ashbury. Less hobos. More gutter punk hippies.
  12. ITT he slid because of his bonus demands and transferring from Vandie to a JuCo for leverage. Maturity is probably not the real issue. Issue is probably the dollar sign his parents see.
  13. My umps aren't directed at any particular poster. Also, I've been posting about robot umps for years on here...
  14. Latos DFA'd. Why can't the Sox do that with Buchholz?
  15. Blown calls shouldn't be an essential part of the game. Adding additional "judgement calls" like blocking the plate or illegal slides just make it harder for the umps to do their jobs. I'm not a fan. I also don't want umps to be forced to give bench warnings over HBP's. It's just adding to much nonsense to the game. I think an official k zone monitored by a robot would make the calls clearer and wouldn't hinder the game much.
  16. To me, I just hate it when the ump takes over the game. Just make the calls. Don't stare down a player and start a fight. Just be reasonably accurate. I just find it infuriating. It's why I hate the NBA and why I turn off some NFL games that are overly officiated.
  17. OCB's earnings are way down this quarter.
  18. Nope. The other guy popped for "adderall." If he did the same, it would have been noted most likely. Other guys have tested positive for adderall before the draft and it hasn't affected their position at all. (Jon Gray)
  19. And what happens when s/he takes a foul ball off the mask? How many glasses need to be retained onsite?
  20. Not sure it would make a difference in how well a portion of the population smells. Yes, in that description I'm including the white upper-middle class kids who migrate to the city each year to "squat" and beg for food for their non-neutered dogs. Green bud. Green bud. Green bud. Waking up to the sounds of a drum circle outside of your apartment is like hearing the drumming in the mines of Moria. "Fly you fools."
  21. The umpires union isn't very strong. I'm sure MLB has enough leverage to get something like that to work. However, that wouldn't happen until 1/1/20 at the earliest, which is when the current union contract ends.
  22. Not really a big surprise there. He has always struggle to remain healthy.
  23. A lot of those summer squaters do have homes though... For the most part, I don't have a problem with the homeless population. I do have a problem with the lack of services provided towards the homeless as well as the aggressive panhandling of some homeless persons. I have great memories from living in SF. It's a shame that the high cost of living is completely changing the city's culture.
  24. I turn games off when the umpiring is particularly rough. I don't find the product enjoyable when I have to stress over the strike zone. If Angel Hernandez is behind the plate, I find something else to do.
  25. I only use socially aware recipes. Sorry.
