  1. Espinoza is good. He has great potential. At the end of the day, it's just potential.
  2. That's not the concern. The guys at Soxprospects are constantly saying how he is 1 year younger than the guys he's pitching against. Any 21-22 guy still at Espinoza's level will be out of baseball in the next few years.
  3. From the Soxprospects article: Given the team they have right now, especially on offense, and the lack of starting pitching options both at the big league level and in the high minors, the opportunity to acquire a 27-year-old pitcher who has shown the ability to be an impact starter and has two more years of team control was likely too good to pass up. It comes down to: do you want your MLB team to succeed, or do you want to hoard your prospects without regard for the on-field product? I prefer a mix of both and honestly, Dombroski hasn't gutted the system.
  4. You know who does have a history of disappearing in the playoffs? David bleeping Price... You know who else will probably struggle? Steven bleeping Wright...
  5. Also, thanks John Henry for lowballing Lester.
  6. Also, Fernandez isn't on the market. The Marlins were your competition for trades.
  7. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2006/26660.html Here's the list from 10 years ago. Sure seems like there is a lot of hit or miss guys in here and many that could have been used to acquire a #2 starter.
  8. It's more likely that he doesn't become Pedro.
  9. That's not nice to say about your fellow poster!
  10. Kopech is also pitching far better than Espinoza right now. At this moment, Espinoza is a lottery ticket, nothing more.
  11. What other pitcher was available that was comparable to Pomeranz?
  12. Yeah, but what would he know...
  13. Pomeranz was also the 5th overall pick, it's not like he's some scrub that wandered in off the street. Sure, there is risk, but there was risk associated with every available pitcher. Also, you can't say "well they could have gotten him if they didn't give up Espinoza, they could have just given up pitcher A, B and C." Unless you were on the call, you have no idea. And honestly, Pomeranz is worth far more than Hill who has already been on the DL, is almost a decade older and is only under control for this season. Pomeranz has infinite more upside than Hill.
  14. Due to the additional Wild Card team, it is unlikely that any team would drop off over the next 2 weeks. There is a better chance that they would have entered into a bidding war. I'd also rather make a move 2 weeks in advance when you can get an additional couple of starts out of a high caliber pitcher than throwing a AAAA guy out there. Striking early could get us 2-3 extra wins this year.
  15. If he has lights out stuff, why is he struggling this year?
  16. They weren't getting a worthwhile starter without giving up Espinoza. Dombrowski was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.
  17. Future me is already annoyed at the moaning during any start where Pomeranz isn't "ace-like."
  18. ARR YOU READY FOR SOME BASEBALL?!?!? Are you? It's been a while.
  19. Since Espinoza won't be in the bigs until 2021, I look forward to this topic being in the deadhorse thread for the next 5 years.
  20. What a punk. Holding out for $150K... Disgusting!
  21. "It's our birthright as Sox fans to whine about the team." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
  22. @alexspeier Groome, Dalbec, Shawaryn all under agreement for Sox. The team still has a little $ left for possible deals w/players taken later in draft.
  23. GTFO Buchholz!
  24. My health insuramce would be way cheaper if it wasn't for fatties.
