    The question is what is the chance he'll become Pedro. If it's 50%, you keep Espinoza. If it's less than 25%, you probably move him without worrying.

    We're lucky if our back end starters get through the lineup the second time without being lit up. I think Pomeranz has this kind of success against hitters because he really changes up his speeds, especially with his fastball.

    Well, he took a dump of a Detroit organization and made them perennial contenders. He hasn't been given the keys to an organization like the Sox. We'll see what happens. I doubt he guts the organization though.

    Most people "in the know" think he's done with pitching and may grab a bat. Not sure any of the top 3 would go in a trade for a bat.

    If he dumps Moncada, Devers and Benintendi, we'll all be having a different conversation unless they get Trout and another top starter back.

    Too many injuries. Buccholz pitched better out of the pen. I think they need to grab an additional arm.

    There are definitely posters who don't care about prospects and only want to win now. I think the best organizations trade overrated talent to supplement their MLB teams and know which prospects to hold onto. I think Espinoza is a good talent. I think the Padres should trade whatever they can to for the chance to get a future ace. I think the Sox need to do whatever they can to keep the MLB roster stocked and the farm system ranked towards the top.

    Yes. Is he an actual "MLB #2 rotation guy?" That's up for debate, but getting into that conversation is often very derivative and silly. In terms of performance and reliability, I see the rotation going forward as: Price Pomeranz Porcello Wright Dumpster Fire

    The remaining schedule is brutal for the Red Sox. Forty three of the remaining 75 games are on the road, with two West Coast trips plus a nasty four-city trip in mid-August that includes a one-game series in Cleveland and an early start in Detroit after a night game in Baltimore. The need to start the second half strong and not play down to their opponents.

    He is pitching better than Porcello right now and I believe that Wright is going to start experiencing diminishing returns. He is our 2nd best starter right now.

    He was a starter who was brought up as a 22 year old in Colorado and got hit around (no surprise there). He pitched well as a starter in Oakland in 2014 and was a fulltime reliever in 2015 because the A's didn't like that he had only 2 pitches. He's developed a third pitch this season and it has been great for him. He's basically a different pitcher. Price has zero track record of holding up in October. Most pitchers don't have that track record.

    In my argument, it didn't matter if the players were acquired by FA or trading, it was just that they weren't generally hoarded prospects.

    Was Espinoza a high draft pick? Would you be opposed to trading a high draft pick like Trey Ball? Why haven't the Sox been able to create a decent pipeline of starters? Other competitive teams have regardless of their MLB standings.

    And we all would have bitched and moaned about the move, but when it worked out we would have just shrugged our shoulders after the fact. The Pats draft and develop players well. The Pats also know which veterans to bring in as role players. It's not completely analogous, but the Pats are a much better run organization, imo. I believe that's because there are fewer voices making the moves. When the Sox have gotten into trouble, it's when there are too many cooks in the kitchen. Frankly, if Dombrowski is calling the shots and making all final decisions, the Sox will be better for it than if we still had Theo and Larry and John Henry and Werner and whoever else feeding the monster.

    Yet, they have struggled to develop legitimate starters except for Lester for the majority of my lifetime. So I guess the Sox would do better not to hoard prospects?

    Also, if the Red Sox want to be the Pats, they need the best pitcher in baseball and the best manager in baseball. They don't have either. The Pats also make shrewd moves and let veterans go before they expire. The Pats would trade Pedey without second guessing.

    I'm not worried about dying either. However, I am worried about the performances I see daily on NESN.

    I'd rather have Xander at SS and the ring. The Sox didn't lose anything with that trade when they had a better SS on their roster.
