  1. Cheer up, buster. Gerritt Cole will be coming back this week.
  2. You turn it down if you think you deserve more. If he thinks it's worth the risk to sit out a year, he'll turn it down. It may be the only payday he gets (unforeseen injury and whatnot).
  3. Then you are subject to no rules. Enjoy!
  4. There is only one rule: if you make a gamethread and the Sox win, you need to make a gamethread for the very next game.
  5. Stanton is a ticking time bomb, just look at his neck. His head is about to pop off any second now.
  6. We really need an FAQ for this place.
  7. "DFA Player X" is an old Talksox trope that has been going on for years. He's not saying anyone actually thinks they should DFA Price. Example: Vazquez is having a tough year and lots of posters think he's better suited to AAA. If he comes up and hits a walkoff HR, an astute poster would say "DFA Vazquez" in a joking manner.
  8. The worst that can happen is that they miss out on Groome and get the 13th pick in a stacked draft next year. Groome might fall even further next year.
  9. Stanton is 66th in OPS, 108th in OBP, 6th in K's. He's still a good player, but you'd have to give up way too much. Fernandez is legit though. Probably the 3rd best pitcher right now behind Kershaw and Scherzer (who we could have grabbed two offseasons ago).
  10. He won't be playing 2b for the Sox anytime soon. They'll definitely need to move him to 3b in the offseason. Once he is comfortable there, then you can consider bringing him up.
  11. Ells played 87 games in Pawtucket before being called up. Lowrie played 93 games in Pawtucket before being called up. In Masterson's first big league season after basically skipping AAA he had a 0.1 WAR.
  12. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/twins-designate-kevin-jepsen-for-assignment.html Kevin Jepsen, anyone?
  13. Would you rather pay Price at $31 or Weaver at $17 f***ing million dollars a year?
  14. Here's the full AL lineup: 2B Altuve CF Trout 3B Machado DH Ortiz SS Bogaerts 1B Hosmer RF Betts C Perez LF Bradley Jr. SP Sale And the National League will counter with this starting nine: 2B Zobrist RF Harper 3B Bryant DH Myers C Posey 1B Rizzo CF Ozuna LF Cargo SS Russell SP Cueto http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/clubhouse_insider/2016/07/david_ortiz_batting_cleanup_in_his_final_all_star_game
  15. Adam Wainright has a worse ERA. He's STL's # 1. Dallas Keuchel? Sonny Gray? Chris Archer? Volquez? Liriano? Weaver? Miller? They were all supposedly their team's #1's before the season and all have been far worse than Price.
  16. The worst week of the season.
  17. https://sports.vice.com/en_us/article/if-mlb-really-wants-shorter-games-it-needs-to-figure-out-instant-replay 2016 will have the second longest games, on average, of the past decade. The only season with longer games was 2014, the year MLB introduced expanded replay review. Manfred has expressed frustration with increasing replay reviews this season. "You can rest assured," he told ESPN, "that we are watching this year, and we will be analyzing during the offseason, both the number of replays and particularly the longer reviews. The four minutes and 50 second reviews don't make me that happy." It's likely that more extreme measures—like the dreaded 20-second pitch clock—will be on the table for the 2017 season, particularly after that clock's success in shaving off an average of 16 minutes per game in the Triple-A International League. This rule would automatically award a ball to the batter should the pitcher fail to deliver a pitch within 20 seconds.
  18. I completely agree. If the Sox fixed the 4/5 starters, but Price doesn't measurably improve, the Sox are DOA if they make the Wild Card. They need Price to pitch better. They need to figure out the 4/5 slots. I'd add another bullpen arm too, because I wonder how Taz and Koji's arms will hold up. If Holt is going to struggle with ongoing concussion symptoms, they should look to add a cheap backup OF as well.
  19. I think he's a very decent reliever, but is just highly overcompensated. Is he better than Koji right now? I think I'd trust him just as much.
  20. Is the above quote not stating that the 4/5 guys don't matter and that the ace is what needs to be fixed instead?
  21. I don't agree with this assertion. When someone says "we need to fix our 4 and 5 starters" but another poster says "why are you worried about the 4 and 5 starters when Price is pitching like a 4" is basically putting the larger portion of the blame pie on Price.
  22. Hey, I'm not the one saying he needs to be replaced...
  23. Your ability to sense sarcasm is sorely lacking.
